A Huge Favor
Weiss gave herself days and days before she met up with Blake again. She worked hard, settled meetings, conferences and many arguments with the board. Although still in contact with her raven haired special friend, she concentrated on her issue. She had limited space to move around due to many watching her within the walls of SDC.
She was expected to pick a bride or groom, whoever she preferred from the list given to her and marry them by the end of the year which doesn't give her much time to develop and adjust which scares her. Change is always welcome to SDC but this might be a bigger one because it involves her.
Blake was fine with the simple messages they exchanged with Weiss as she spent time with Nora, Jaune, and Ruby at the places they always used to hang in. Cafes, arcades, and the parks, forest and galleries they can have fun in. It was a fun few days but she ends up confronting Yang at the end of the day when she walks with the gang back at Ruby's home. Although she did her best to avoid Yang, she can't step away from their fights and the blows they gave, both physically and verbally to each other. By night, she's all alone in her apartment, drinking to herself or in a gallery, looking up at her lousy works that people actually like.
Both had quite a week on their own but Weiss finally took courage and called up Blake at the same coffee shop close to the SDC building.
Weiss went out by lunch, not wearing a disguise and was welcomed by a few reporters and paparazzi. The guards at the front held them back from following her into the cafe and ordered her coffee, sitting at a couch as she waited for Blake with a folder in hand.
Blake arrived a few minutes after, relieved to see Weiss after days. Both of them seemed to be busy with their own lives and it showed on the CEO's face. She was tired but she was still eager. Her smile greeted Blake who made her way on the couch to join Weiss.
Both sighed, silent and tense for a moment until Weiss started the conversation. "How are you, Blake?"
The raven haired artist smiled a little her way as she replied, "Very stressed. How about you, princess?"
Weiss grinned. "Much worse than you I gather." She replied, placing her cup down on the table. "I called you here because I need to talk to you about...something."
"Woah, sounding serious there Weiss. What happened?" Blake turned to her, brows knitted together, a frown on her lips. "Did something happen?"
"In fact, yes. Something did. Last week, I, uh, had a serious meeting with the board..." She sighed, biting her lip as she tried to pick the right words to say in her head. Weiss shifted in her seat, looking up at Blake with worry. "I'm getting married."
Blake took a whole minute or two to let that sink in but even then, she just got more confused. "Uh, what? Weiss? Are you serious? To who?" She asked, her heart hammering in her chest, hands clammy and skin pale from the news.
"I haven't decided yet but I have to get married by the end of the year. Seven months and a week from now." Weiss admitted, her eyes not meeting Blake after that one line. "They are, uh, making me choose from a list."
Blake shook her head. "So this is arranged? You're not free to pick who you want?" She asked.
"I have to pick someone who the company thinks is good for SDC and me." Weiss sighed, picking her cup once more and sipping slowly from it as she glared on the floor. "Trust me, I hate it."
Blake couldn't help but pity for her and for herself. She likes Weiss a lot, they seem to have the same wavelength on many things if not most things in life. They are similar as they are different which was a good chemistry. "So, can I see the list at least to help you pick?" her eyes trailed on the white folder on the table with papers inside.
"Oh no, you can do better actually." Weiss took and released a seep breath, her hands shaking and clammy. She considered everything with her plan, everything from Blake's welfare, to Winter's, and to hers. She's got a good chance of appeasing everyone with her choice.
"What could be better than that? Why did you call me here, Weiss?" Blake asked, confused with her feelings and purpose now.
Weiss pulled out a paper from her pocket and handed it to Blake. The header was the SDC's known name and address and bellow was Blake's picture under the line that said "Possible marriage candidate of Weiss Schnee:". Blake looked well and hard at the paper, all the listed reasons why she was suited and why she can be a good candidate for Weiss.
The white haired young lady pulled out a baby blue velvet box from her pocket. Taking a deep breath, before she went down on one knee, popping the box open where a lack diamond ring rests. Blake's breathing almost stopped from the sight of lady kneeling in front of her with a ring being presented to her.
"Blake, will you marry me?"
Call her shookt, shaken, shellshocked or whatever--Blake can't believe what she just heard from Weiss Schnee. Her? She picked her? From all those candidates who are far more eligible than she is, much more powerful, influential and rich than her. Heck, she can't even change the table she destroyed in her garage. Why her?
Blake realized that Weiss needed an answer. Quickly. This was a decision she can't rush but this was probably the most interesting thing that happened to her. Ever. Was it gonna get better? was there something waiting for her with Weiss in the future, she doesn't know and it was thrilling!
Blake broke to a huge smile. "Yes! Princess, Yes! So get up from the floor, alright?"
Weiss slipped the ring on her finger and kissed her cheek, whispering "Thank you." in her ear. people who have witnessed it applauded and gave them greeting and congratulations and the coffee shop even answered their next drink as a gift. Weiss was just glad that Blake gave her hope to see through this. They're good friends at this point so why not? It's not like she knows other people on that list anyway. Not as much as she knows Blake.
"So they actually considered me as a choice?" Blake asked with a whisper, a smile on her lips. "Sounds like your sister likes me."
Weiss laughed. "Good guess, hun." She nodded, blushing furiously. "I genuinely think she does though."
Blake laughed at that, pulling Weiss by her waist and pressed her lips by her forehead. "You pack quite a surprise, Schnee. I look forward to how this goes."
Weiss smiled, cupping Blake by her cheek. "We'll talk a lot more later. Right now, how about we get that free coffee?" She asked. Blake broke into laughter again, lighter than her laughs days before.
"Yeah sure, love. Anything for you..~" Blake said, kissing Weiss' hand. "Am I doting enough?"
Weiss chuckled and slipped out of her arms, heading to the counter to get them more coffee and possibly something else to eat. Blake stayed at their seat, smiling like a lunatic with thoughts racing in her head.
But she remembered a few things, small things from long ago. Years when she was in Beacon. She knew Weiss even before they met at the bar but something else. Ruby...Oh yeah, Ruby and her used to date and they broke off before graduation. Blake heard about that around their batch and it was trivial at the time. Right now, she was nervous as to how Ruby, how everyone she knew would take this.
And there's Yang's return as well. She loathes how the blonde has become, how different she has been after years and years on the field. A year has passed since their very painful break up but this was still going to be a shock to her, won't it? And why does she care?
Blake snapped out of it, staring at the diamond ring in the shape of a snowflake on her finger. Beautiful and simple but it was clear that she was not tied with the Schnees. Cruel or not, this was a decision that had it's hard outcomes.
Weiss came back with two hot mugs of hot chocolate and sandwiches for lunch. She noticed that she smile just moments before had turned to a serious pout. Blake knew something was wrong right off the bat.
"Did something happen?" Blake asked.
Weiss looked up at her and knew she was dying to tell her something but people were now watching them, keeping an eye on what they'll do next. Whatever Weiss had in her head was not a discussion to be had in a coffee shop.
Blake took the tray and had it for take out, quickly taking it and leading Weiss back to the SDC building. Outside the cafe, cameras caught shots of them holding hands but that was fine. Weiss made it official so she need not hide their relationship.
She tried not to think of the headlines tomorrow for the tabloids but what's wrong if they're engaged. It's the twenty-first century. Anyone who'll make a scandal out of this might as well go to hell.
Blake and Weiss entered the building without an exchange of words and only did Weiss speak when they got into the elevator of the building.
"Since I picked, a lot of things are lined up. We have to make a press release, interviews, shoots for magazines and news and you have to meet the board soon after. I realized ow taxing this might be on you." Weiss sighed, looking up at Blake. Cupping her fiancee's cheeks, the white haired girl stood on her toes and gave a kiss on Blake's lips. The first since Blake wore the ring. "Can you do it?"
Blake looked down at Weiss with a playful smile. "Schnee, Oh Weiss Schnee...by now, you'd know better than to doubt an ability of a minx like me."
"But that's the thing, I have yet to know a lot about you." Weiss held her hand, distraught heard from her voice.
The raven haired faunus hugged her, releasing a sigh of relief. "Yeah, it's not gonna be a relationship if the fun part doesn't happen right? You'll have a lot of time to know me, don't worry." Blake left a kiss on her forehead for a moment and pulled away just in time for the elevator doors to open.
Both of them strode out the elevator with a small smile as both ladies knew that everything was going to be fine.
But is it going to be really? No, I'll assure you they knew wrong.
