The following week, Marinette still remained sick. Her mother took a day off from the bakery and took her to the docter.
She ran some tests and told Mrs. Cheng she would call Marinette with her results in a few days. With a subtle nod, she and Marinette headed home.
Adrien had already left 4 days before, but Chat stayed in Paris an extra day until Mrs. Cheng reassured him she was going to see a docter soon. That was 3 days ago.
Meanwhile, Marinette constantly felt like someone was gagging her or punching her in the stomach. Chat really didn't want to leave her like that, but what choice did he really have?
Hours turned to days and days turned to weeks before Marinette finally got her call.
"Marinette Dupain-Cheng?"
"This is she?"
"We have your test results for a couple weeks ago. It took a little longer than expect because we hadn't thought to look for something that should have immediately come to our attention."
"So what's wrong with me?"
"Nothing dear! Just a little morning sickness. Nothing to worry about. Any expecting mother goes through the same ordeal! It's perfectly natural, Ms. Dupain-Cheng! Congratulations by the way! Welcome to motherhood!"
Those words hit Marinette like a bat to the gut.
"Thanks..." was all she could muster before ending the call.
What should I do? Chat's no longer here and I'm not ready for this! But I can't very well take it's life. I mean I'm a hero of Pairs for crying out loud! I'm suppose to save lives not end them!
Marinette's mind raced.
Soon she came to a decision; to have the baby and put it up for adoption. Until then she would stay indoors and away from people. She could always go back to her fashion school next year.
And so that's what she did. For the next nine months of her life.
