Chpater 9: Friend-Zoned
Y/N's POV:
I walked over to the pool of water and cupped my hands around it. It was a little chilly, but the sound of it was so soothing. I didn't want to glance back at Chat. I promised not to! But I really really wanted to... I thought for a moment before an idea struck me. I got up and turned around, placing a hand over my eyes to stop myself from seeing Chat's real identity.
I snatched up a plastic Tupperware thing that the meat came in and went back to the pool, still not looking at Chat. I scooped up some water and went back, finding the cracklings flames barely lit. I grabbed a few sticks, poked two Y shaped ones into the ground and place others on top of them, high enough that he fire couldn't burn them. I placed the rest in the fire to get it back up and going before putting the plastic Tupperware container on the sticks. Suddenly, Chat started laughing. I had to restrain from whipping my head around to see why he was laughing. "Your ass just got Looney Tuned," he chuckled.
"What was that, Chat?" I asked.
"Oh, uh... Nothing," he said back. Then I heard whispering and heard the sound of thunder before flashes of green lightning.
"I'm back...!" I felt a wave of relief wash over me and I turned my head to Chat. His eyes were shining in the sun.
"Do you need help?" I asked, concern beating in my heart as he tried pushing himself up on his elbows and trying to sit up. He started gritting his teeth in pain. I rushed over and wrapped my hands and arms around his shoulders and kept him propped up with my leg.
"You feeling better?" I said, blushing a little.
"Yeah, a little bit of head ache, though," he said, rubbing his forehead before leaning his face toward mine. "At least I have a perfect Kitten to help me keep the pin away." I froze and dropped my sweet smile.
Chat lifted his hand to my cheek with a sly smile. I closed my eyes halfway. This is what I've wanted for a long, long time. This is what you have dreamed of, right? No, not this way... It feels... Too pushed.., I thought.
I had to move. I had to stop this. I lifted my hand and touched his, and moved it down. I looked away, back at the fire and the water that was now boiling. "Hey, look at that," I said, pulling away from Chat. "The water is ready for us to drink. You want some?" I got up and started walking back to the fire. And there was just silence between us.
"Chat?" I glanced back at him. And all I saw was hurt in his summer green eyes.
Chat/Adrien's POV:
She... She pushed me away. The guilt of what I was thinking of stung my heart and the poison made it heavier and heavier. I just sat there, staring at her. I didn't want to seem like it was a huge deal for me to touch her. But what could I do?
"Chat, I-"
"No, no. You're fine, Kitten," I said, embarrassed. "Guess I was still just a little delusional... Sorry." I turned my head away and felt my face growing hotter by the second.
What was I thinking!? Ugh, you're so dumb..., I thought, staring at the pool of calming water. I shivered a little at the memory of the cold climate.
Then a hand took my arm and slung it over someone's neck, hauling me up with a hand around my rib cage.
I glanced up and saw Y/N. She was smiling! So she didn't think I was a complete failure. We stood up and limped over to the fire. The heat from the fire and the sun weren't that different, but I was still pretty hot.
"God, you're too warm," Y/N said, leading me away from the fire to a rock that jutted out of the ground and was placed in the shade. She laid me down with my back against it gently. I sighed and leaned my head against the rock face, feeling the coolness of it soak up into my skin.
"Here," Y/N said, holding out the plastic container. "It's not cold, but at least it's water." I nodded and smiled at her, taking the container from her hands. I pulled it up to my mouth and drank the sweet water. Sure, it was warm, but I was so thirsty.
I took the water away when I knew I couldn't drink anymore. Y/N took it and drank the last of it. She glanced around, her eyes clouded with thought. "What is it?" I asked, my voice coming back.
"I was thinking of going into the woods to hunt," she said, standing. I started to smile, which turned into a snicker.
"Hunting? What exactly?" I asked, flicking my tail in amusement.
"Fish, silly," she said, rubbing my hair. I shook it out again and watched her walk away to the pool.
