Chapter 7: Stay Asleep

Chat Nori/Adrien's POV:

"What ever could you mean?" Volpina stopped, a hurtful look in her eyes. "I thought we were friends Chat..."
"Think again," I hiss angrily. "I'm here for Y/N." Volpina's green eyes spark with anger and she changes her posture. She places her hand on her hip, her ears twitch, and her feet are a shoulder width apart.
"Why should I?" She growls. I leap forward and sweep her feet out from under her with my staff. I can't explain how much I wanted to kill her.
Bu I knew that if I did that, I wouldn't find Y/N. So I had to keep her alive.
"Because I am the one in control," I said forcefully. "Wanna test me again?" Volpina shoved herself off her back and up on her hands. She flashed a smile at me, but it was an evil and angry smile.
"Fine," she said. I let her stand up, but I kept my eyes on her the entire time we walked through the forest.

It was at least noon by now. The trees leaves shaded out the sun as we walked. "How far away is she?" I said, trying to to groan. Volpina only smiled back at me. My tail whipped from side to side with frustration.
"Don't be that way, Chat," she said, still smiling. "She's close by." She turned her head back forward, but then I saw a mischievous gleam in her eyes. What was she planning? I decided to keep an eye out for any sign of danger or even if Volpina decided to attack.
"Ok...," I sighed, keeping my senses on high alert. We slid down a muddy hillside and landed on some flat rocks that made up the banks of a small pool of water. A stream was falling into the pool and escaped out of a narrow, reed infested mouth. I looked around, but saw no sign of Y/N.
"Where is she? You said you would bring me to her!" Volpina pointed to the reed curtain on the opposite side of the pool. I blinked and turned my head away from Volpina.
Clenching my teeth together, I dove into the pool and swam across it to the reed bed. I shoved the reeds apart, searching desperately for Y/N. Was she alive? Was she dead? Wait, why am I even thinking hear things!? It hit me like a punch to my stomach. Do I like Y/N? I shook my head and continued searching through the reeds.
"Y/N?" I called. No answer. I moved the last row of reeds and found a dark body, lying in the tall grass. A flash of relief coursed through my body like an electric shock. I waded out of the water and jolted over to her, sitting on my knees next to her. I touched her forehead and it felt cold. I moved my hand down her arm and laced my fingers through hers... not even thinking about it.
"Don't worry, Y/N... I'm here," I whispered. I closed my eyes slowly and took her hand to my mouth almost instinctively. Then I felt something strike my face, searing pain cutting under my eye near my mask. I opened my eyes.
I white version of me, staring me in the face. His eyes were red, and I could feel the same redness of my blood running down and into my mouth.
"Stay away from her!" He growled and lunged at me, claws outstretched. I fell backwards, tumbling away from Y/N. Suddenly, I felt a cold burst on my back and took in a deep breath before my mouth filled with water.
I choked on the coldness but continued to claw and writhe under the weight of my attacker. I was brought up to the surface but then plunged back under. My head felt heavy but my brain felt surprisingly light at the same time. I was left under the water for a bit, my lungs burning and my body going into panic mode. I kicked and fought back harder than before. But it didn't help. I was outmatched.
I was pulled back to the surface and I coughed up water. I only had a few second of air before I was shoved back in, longer than before, then pulled back out. This went on for several minutes, each time making me weaker than the last. Finally, I was dragged to the surface. I was so thankful before the hand of my attacker grasped my throat. I was having trouble breathing, so I was already weak. Even though my head wasn't under water anymore, my lungs still burned and my hands and legs were starting to feel numb. I stared into the deep red abyss of Chat Blanc's eyes.
No emotion but pleasure of killing me was there. I felt helpless at that moment, almost as if I was just another victim of a super villain and not a superhero. I then went with the best possible way to get out of this: play dead.
I closed my eyes slowly and I let my muscles relax, even though my lungs still screamed and pleaded for me to breathe. Please, take the bait, please leave me alone..., I pleaded quietly. But the pressure on my throat didn't leave. Instead, it grew and grew, cutting more and more of my oxygen off. I couldn't take it anymore. I lifted my shaking hand to Chat Blanc's wrist, pulling weakly away. "So you do fear death," his demon like voice asked. I kept my eyes shut and gridded my teeth together with the effort.
I won't die..! I won't! I suddenly saw a picture of Y/N. She was standing in the sunlight, smiling and looking back at me. I flashed my eyes open and a surge of deadly energy collided with my heart and I finally had the strength to yank Chat's wrist away. Then I reached I up and felt skin tear under my sharp claws.
Chat Blanc shot up backwards, yowling in pain. I propped myself up on my elbow and coughed up water and, finally, I could breathe. I glared at Chat Blanc as he held his right eye with his hand. Blood sifted between his fingers then he stopped rolling around on the ground and stood up, his shoulders hunched over and his sharp teeth glittering in the sunlight.
"What's the matter, kitty? Chat got your tongue?" I heaved, smiling despite the pain under my eye and the constant burning in my lungs. Then Chat Blanc removed his hand, showing three long bloody scratches over his eye.
I stood up myself, my legs trembling. "No one will take my Y/N away from me!" I glared at him and lunged forward, striking Chat Blanc in the head with my staff. He stumbled sideways and fell into the grass. He didn't move. Did I knock him out? I thought. I walked forward slowly and stared at him. I poked his head with my staff.
"Are you dead?" I ask, stepping closer. Searing, raging pain shot up my leg and I yelped out in anger before kicking away at the pain. Chat Blanc was far from dead. I stumbled backwards, towards the pool. I shuddered at my idea before I leapt into the water. I finally got Chat Blanc under me and I used the rest of my force to stab him through the chest. A puff of orange flooded the water and I finally felt relaxed. I paddled to the surface, breathing in the cool air.
I crawled onto the muddy pool bank. "Chat..?" I was so tired. I looked up and felt the blood from my leg and from under my eye... the pain was starting to dull. Y/N was sitting up and staring at me. My hearing was going down in flames, my arms were starting to shake from the cold, and all I could see was Y/N's face going in and out of focus. "Chat!!"
