Chapter 1: The Missing Stars

Y/N's POV:

The morning sun was warm as I walked to school. I smiled widely, just too excited to start a new life here in Paris, France. Standing in front of the sun was the Eiffel Tower. Walking through the doors, students milled around and talked, looking for classes.
In the wild chaos of nervous students, a hand lands on my shoulder.
"Hey! You're new, right?" I turn around to see a girl about my height, with black hair and blue eyes. I smile and nod shyly.
"Uh, y-yeah," I said softly, gripping the shoulder strap of my backpack.
"My names Marinette!" (A/n: Did I spell it right?) the girl says waving. I wave back, a little shaken at the moment, but whatever. A friend's a friend!
"And this is Alya!" Marinette pulls a girl with orange and brown hair with glasses in front of me and she shakes my hand.
"Hi, my names Alya. Yours?"
"Y/N." I say a bit more confidently. Alya seemed a little less bubbly and a little more domesticated and easy going than Marinette. "Have you gotten your schedule yet?" I shake my head, a little worried.
"Ok, cool. We haven't gotten ours either. Come with us," Alya says with a nice smile. I follow them towards a small table full of papers. I ask for my name and the lady there hands me my schedule. First hour: English, second hour: science, etc.
"Most of your classes we have," Marinette squealed excitedly, jumping up and down. I smiled and nodded, seeing that some students were starting to wander to their classes.
"I guess we should go, guys," Alya said. "Oh, I forgot! Welcome to Paris, Y/N!"

- Later That Day-

"Mom! Dad! I had the best day EVER!!" I shouted into the house as I entered. Mom ran out with a smile and hugged me with excitement.
"Can't wait to hear all about it!" she said, leading you into the living room with Dad still unpacking light brown boxes with black marker words, and the tops and sides glittering with clear packing tape. Looking up at you, his eyes seemed tired, but his smile was still young.
"Let's hear it, sweetie!" he said, leaving the box and going to sit next to Mom and I. I told them all about how different it was here in Paris than it was from (where you used to live), about Alya and Marinette. "Any boys you met today, Y/N?" Dad asked, smiling slyly at me.
"In fact, Dad," I said, "I did. Nino and Adrien." Both of them were cool and seemed like good friends, but I'm afraid that Dad wasn't fishing for friend-zone interest boys.
"So, you don't like anyone?" Dad asked, blinking at me, confused.
"Nope. Not yet at least," I said. Mom hugged me and squealed with excitement.
"Well, I hope that you will enjoy the rest of this school year, no matter love interests," she said, acceptingly.
"What's for dinner?" I asked, getting up to walk to my new room. Mom and Dad glanced at each other then back at me.
"Not sure... You wanna go someplace?" Dad asked. I shrugged.
"I don't care, sure!" I said, smiling. They both nodded and a few moments later, we were off to somewhere to eat. Probably, and more than likely, someplace with spaghetti.

- A Few Weeks Later-

"Hey, Y/N!" I turned to look the familiar face of Alya. I wave at her and smile. But she doesn't smile back, she hurries to catch up to me and when she does, she's out of breathe and her face reads worry.
"Have you seen Marrinette since yesterday?" she asks. I'm a little shocked. I shake my head and blink at her in confusion.
"No, what happened?" I venture. Alya looks down at her feet and doesn't say a word for a few minutes as we walk along.
"I don't know. I tried contacting her yesterday afternoon, but she wouldn't pick up. I went over to her house and her parents were a wreck! They went on and on about how they couldn't find her in her room, tried calling her, everything they could think of. She's gone," she answered quietly. I stopped in my tracks, all my other thoughts draining to one question: Where did Marrinette go?
Alya just stood there, not saying anything.
"What have you guys tried so far?" I asked, jumping into the investigation.
"Calling her, emailing her," Alya listed off the many things that worked when you tried to reach someone.
"How long has she been gone?"
"About 24 hours or so."
"Was she doing anything with anyone yesterday?" Alya nodded.
"Yes, I think she was going with Adrien somewhere... I don't really remember but she just said she had to go." I nodded, thinking to myself what would have happened. Adrien's a nice guy. He defiantly wouldn't wouldn't have tried to ... take advantage of her or anything. That would ruin his whole model reputation thing! And if he was involved with this, he would have been a bit smarter to have covered his tracks a little more.
"Let's just go to school and ask Adrien what happened. That might be the only way out of this," I said, trying to sound confident. Alya nodded and we started walking towards school. When we got there, English was just starting. Nino seemed to be gone so I took his seat next to Adrien. But he barely seemed to notice. His naturally bright green eyes reflected sadness.
"Hey, Adrien," I whispered to him. He shot his head up and looked at me with a smile. To be honest, it was a pretty good fake smile, but I could see right through it.
"Hey, Y/N! I didn't see you sitting there," he whispered back. I nodded and leaned forward.
"Do you know what happened to Marrinette last night?" I whispered even quieter. His green eyes shot from sadness to surprise. He glanced back to the empty seat next to Alya. He turned back to me, his eyes wide. Then something instantly clicked in his mind, as if he was making sense of a certain situation.
"She...? She's not here?" he asked quietly. I nodded.
"You haven't seen her since? At all?" I asked. He shook his head.
"No," he said slowly. Then we sat there, just like everything was normal. My head was spinning, questions bursting like balloons.

Adrien/Chat Noir's POV:

Everything makes sense now. Or maybe it's just a coincide? I don't know. But it would make sense that Marrinette and Ladybug both went missing on the same night. Maybe they're not the same. But... ugh! Why am I just thinking about it when I should do something!? Ok, I'll go out tonight... Maybe Y/N could help me with this investigation, I thought with an intrigued smile.

- Hours Later, 6:36pm -

Leaping over buildings in Paris at night was probably my second favorite thing, besides being with my lady. But now that she was gone... This was the only thing I had to look forward to for joy.
When I was dressed in my Chat Noir black suit, I felt invisible in the eyes of the stars. I stopped occasionally, glancing at the yellow lights that shone on there head of the cars. "Now where do you live, Y/N?" I whispered. Narrowing my eyes, I could see into he windows of condos and apartments.
I groaned with frustration as I found that I couldn't find her. I grabbed my staff thing and opened the phone part of it, dialing Alya. As Chat Noir, she would only hear my voice as Adrien.
"Hello? Adrien?"
"Heeyy, Alya! Listen I need this really quickly. Do you have Y/N's number?"
"Uhm. Yeah. Who do you think I am? I know everyone!"
I rolled my eyes. "Just give me her number... Please," I snapped back, realizing I was acting like Chat Noir and not Adrien. There was a paused silence before Alya answered back.
"Everything ok, Adrien? You seem a little... snappy about this."
"I'm sorry, Alya. Just a little stressed."
"If you ever need anything, talk to me, talk to Nino, whatever!"
"Thanks, Alya. I will." I smiled as she read off Y/N's number.
"Thanks again, Alya!" I said, hanging up and calling Y/N.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Y/N. This... This is Chat Noir. I need your help finding a missing girl."
"Well, what about Ladybug? Isn't she supposed to be your-"
"She's not here now," I said, trying to hide the sorrow in my voice. "Will you help me?"
"Yeah, of course! Where are you? You want to meet at the park? Or somewhere more private?"
The last part of the question made my face flame up in a blur of dark pink.
"Uh, uh... The park is ok."
"Sweet. Ok, I'm on my way. Meet you there in ten minutes."

- 6:57 pm -

The park was dark and empty. Cars were starting to thin out, as a few people stalked around the fence. I hid in the shadows, trying to keep out of sight.
"Chat? Chat Noir?" A female voice called quietly into the darkness. I crawled out from my hiding spot, meeting her (E/C) eyes.
"Oh, hi!" She said with a wave and a smile. I stood on my feet, meeting her gaze.
"Ready to help me?" I asked. She nodded.
"Well, first," she interjected before I could say anything,"who is this girl that we're going to look for?" A cold pain slithered up my arms, raising goosebumps.
"Marinette," I choked out. Y/N's eyes widened a little and her sweet smile dropped.
"You know her?" She asked, looking at her feet.
"Y-yeah," I stuttered. "My lady, Ladybug, has gone missing as well. I'm afraid that this case could be connected." Y/N nodded.
"So, where do we start?" She asked, getting all serious.
"Uhm... Let's go to Marinette's house. We can talk to her parents to find some clues as to where they went," I said. Y/N nodded and started walking.
"Where are you going?" I asked, smiling sharply. I reached forward and wrapped my arm around her waist and pulled her towards me. I whipped out my staff and we went up into the sky. Y/N's arms tightened around my neck, but not enough to choke me.
Her eyes widened and I could her her breath get sucked into her lungs, but she didn't scream.

- At Marinette's House -

"Chat Noir? Come in! Come in!" Marinette's mother said quietly and hastily, waving me and Y/N into the bakery. Her bright blue eyes looked absolutely heartbroken and devastated. As we walked through the house, I could remember coming to Marinette's house when we were in the video game finals. I remember when she wouldn't let us eat anything because she was embarrassed about her parents. What I wouldn't give to bring her back and make her parents happy.
"You ok, Chat?" I finally realized I was staring at Marinette's family picture with a loving and searching stare. I blinked out of my stare and smiled at Y/N.
"Yeah, I'm good. Let's go talk to her parents," I said, reaching over and slinging my arm over her shoulder blades, placing my hand on her opposite shoulder, leading her around.
"We don't know what happened," Marinette's father said, grief clouding his voice. "She just left for school, then didn't come back." The words made my tail shiver, causing my shoulders to stiffen up at his words: then she didn't come back... I glanced at Marinette's mother.
"Did she contact you?" I asked. She shook her head, sending a few stray tears falling to the ground. She quickly wiped them away, trying to seem brave. My heart lurched in my rib cage, almost like it was crying itself. I really liked Marinette, maybe a little more than a friend. She reminded me a lot of my lady. My lady..., I thought, casting my stare down to the ground.
I sighed and stood. "Excuse me," I said, walking away from he broken family. As I walked out the door, I could hear Y/N talking to Marinette's parents, her mother's short gasps of breathe as she cried, and the gentle words of her father. If only I had something like that at home.
I sat down resting my elbows on my knees and hanging my head. My tail wrapped around my ankles, and shook as my own tears fled from my emerald green eyes.
I've never heard my dad say he loved me since mom died. Chloe only likes me because of my money and looks. My lady never says she loves me... Or ever will, if she's still alive. I would take a bullet, an arrow, anything for her. But she just pushed me away. She just doesn't know who I am, and how broken I really am. God, do I miss her...

Y/N's POV:

"Thank you, for your information. I'll go get Chat," I said, taking Marinette's mother's hands in mine and smiled. She nodded and stood up, walking away.
I walked to the door and opened it. "Chat? Chat Noir?" I called, looking down the hall and seeing a black ball leaning against the wall. I quietly closed the door and walked up to him. His breathing was deep and his beautiful eyes were closed.
I smiled and sat next to him, rubbing his fluffy blond hair. Curling up next to me, Chat started to purr. I ran my fingertips down his spine. Then I placed my hand on his shoulder blades, feeling the rumble in his throat quake through his rib cage to his back.
"Pretty kitty, pretty kitty," I whispered in his black ear.
