Meeting Copycat
You caught up to Ladybug as she ran over rooftops. You dropped down beside her and easily fell in step. Her eyebrows were furrowed tightly, giving her deep wrinkles across her forehead.
The faster you ran the more she picked up speed, making her long bangs blow upward so that you could see her forehead. "What's going on?!" she yelled at you. You sneered as you reached the end of the rooftop and jumped the length onto another one.
Not only did you not want to explain the situation to her, but you didn't have the vocabulary to do so. Therefore, you just shrugged your shoulders and continued running.
You reached the studio window before Ladybug and paused as you looked inside. Chat Noir was tied up in chains, his back against the floor, and Copycat was ontop of him, straddling his waist and trying to get his ring off. You gritted your teeth, ready to jump in. But, Ladybug swung right past you and landed in front of the two boys.
"There you are," Copycat gushed, staring at Ladybug intently as she ran forward to get closer.
"Cat Noir! He really looks like you!" she said in surprise.
You thought she could tell them apart like you were able to, but that didn't seem to be the case, now. However, there was no way for you to be sure she couldn't tell them apart, and you didn't want to ruin any plan.
"That's because I am me!" Chat Noir defended. He scrunched up his nose, looking up to Ladybug with a tired expression.
"Where is his akuma?" she demanded of Copycat. You clenched your fists, feeling increasingly anxious. You were ready to tackle Ladybug to the ground if she made a single wrong move.
"Inside his ring, of course." Copycat grinned cheekily and held up Chat's hand. "Grab it."
You took another step forward, quietly. If you were going to have to fight both of them you at least wanted the element of surprise on your side.
"He even has the same powers as you."
"Simply amazing, isn't it?" Even the way Copycat spoke wasn't like Chat Noir. Ladybug nodded. She reached out for his ring and you took action.
You jumped on top of her and yanked her to the side forcefully. She reached back for her yo-yo and swung it at you, but you dodged it. "What are you doing, Batwing!"
"He not Copycat, you blind idiot!"
She looked confused for a moment and you realized that you had spoken incorrectly, but you hoped she wouldn't dwell on it too much. She furrowed her eyebrows and looked back at the two cats.
Ladybug glared at you. "I have been working with Chat Noir much longer than you have, I think I can tell him apart from this imposter."
There was a long moment of silence as everyone became suspicious of everyone else. You thought back to the ceremony and got an idea.
"I hope you didn't tell him about your relationship with Ladybug," you blurted out.
"What?"
"That we're... you know," Ladybug said, getting closer to Copycat so that their noses nearly toyched. She winked at you to let you know she had caught on to your plan, "we made a secret promise?"
"Uh, yes! Of course!" Copycat cheered. He stared at Ladybug with loving eyes. For a moment, it seemed as though he forgot where he was and what he was doing. You gagged internally at the fact that there was a middle-aged man in Chat Noir's body, fawning over a teenage girl.
"We never made a promise, Copycat! Batwing was right!"
"But, I love you, Ladybug! I'm way better than this mangy alley cat!" He held his staff and Chat Noir's in his hands tightly, his eyes wide.
"Sorry, but liars are losers. Cat Noir may annoy me to pieces, but he's never lied to me."
"And he's no alley cat!" you shouted, balling up your fists. You readied yourself. If Copycat even flinched you would pounce on him to save Chat.
"If I can't have you, then nobody will!" Copycat held up his hand and shouted, "Cataclysm!"
You leaped forward as Copycat tried to use his cataclysm on Chat Noir. You skillfully grabbed the chains holding Chat and held them up in front of Copycat so his cataclysm broke the chains.
Chat Noir was now free. You grabbed his hand and swiftly helped him get to his feet.
"Let's wrap this up! Lucky Charm!" Ladybug threw her yo-yo into the air and a red spoon with dots fell back into her hands. "What am I supposed to do with this?" she asked, holding it up in front of her face with furrowed brows. "Where's his akuma?"
"The photo in his pocket. Let's make it snappy." You knew exactly what photo Chat Noir was talking about. A 4"x4" picture of Ladybug gliding threw the air in the same pose as her new statue.
Copycat laughed evilly. "You're going to change back before me." He lunged at Chat Noir and began to scratch at him. But Chat Noir fought back full-heartedly, even without his staff, and for a second you noticed something change in his eyes. A small flicker that was gone as soon as it had come. They seemed empty, but when now they were bright and lively.
You ran forward and tried to kick Copycat in the chest. He grabbed your ankle and threw you against the brick wall. You coughed and fell to your knees.
"He's pretty good," Ladybug said as she jumped in alongside the both of you to help.
"Don't need to rub it in!" Chat Noir hissed, continuing to attack with his hands.
"I told you I was better than him!"
You stood up and ran to Copycat who was fully focused on Chat Noir. You grabbed his by the neck from behind and held him in a choke hold.
Ladybug pulled out her yo-yo and threw it to Copycat, who flinched as it wrapped around one of the staffs in his hands. "But I'm better than all three of you!" She yanked the staff away and then tossed it to Chat Noir, now the two were evenly matched.
As they continued fighting Ladybug seemed to have lost track of them. Even as they danced around you lost Chat Noir and so you couldn't jump in to fight.
As one of them went to throw a punch Ladybug lassoed her yo-yo around his arm. He immediately turned around to look at her with wide eyes. "Hey, it's me!"
"He's lying! I'm the real one!"
"Ugh, now you're both annoying me to pieces! Show me your ring. How many pads do you have left?"
"Forget that!" you yelled, grabbing Ladybug and pulling her away. "Can't you tell that's Chat Noir?!" Her yo-yo cane off of Chat's arm. She turned to look at you with furrowed eyebrows.
Just then, Chat Noir's ring beeped to show he had one pad left. Ladybug gasped and instinctively grabbed onto your forearm. "You were right!" She then yelled out, "Cat Noir, scratch attack!"
"Gladly. I love a good cat fight," Chat Noir hissed and began to attack Copycat once again. They fought back and forth, and the winner was hard to determine.
Ladybug held the spoon tightly in her hand, looking hard around the room. Her eyes seemed to land on Chat, a wooden rod, her yo-yo, and the spoon.
"Batwing!" she called out. You turned to her, "Time to go akuma fishing!" she told you. You smirked and grabbed Copycat by the arm. You swiftly flipped him over your back and towards Chat Noir, who caught him against the bottom of his feet as he lied on his back.
Chat Noir grinned mischievously as Ladybug hooked Copycat's belt with the rod she mad from her materials. She had thrown the string over a bar supporting the roof. Chat Noir quickly unzipped Copycat's pocket with the akumatized photo and Ladybug reeled him up so that he hung from the cieling.
He was now stuck and flailing for help. You walked over to him and got closer to his face. "You don't have the eyes," you whispered. You took the picture from his pocket and handed it to Chat Noir. "You want?"
He nodded confidently and ripped the photo in half. A dark purple butterfly flapped out, but Ladybug quickly captured it within her yo-yo and cleansed away it's evilness.
"You're up," she told you.
"Optimal Revamp!" you yelled. A swarm of furry brown bats swept over the room, fixing all the damage and putting everything back into place. The sculptor turned back to normal and began to fall from his holding place in the ceiling.
Chat Noir leapt forward and caught him.
"Nice catch!" Ladybug praised. She smiled at Chat Noir, but didn't turn to look at you.
"I'm so glad you could tell the real cat from the fake one," he said happily, looking thankful. You quickly wanted to tell him it was no big deal but Ladybug beat you to it.
"Once I figured out which cat was really in love with me, it was a no-brainer." Ladybug sounded so smug and preppy you almost believed she could tell them apart. But, you knew better- she had a way to differentiate them, but you were the one who saw the difference.
Your anger boiled. You balled up your fists and took a deep breath in through your nose. Just then, Chat Noir's ring beeped, and yours did, too. If you had used a regular Revamp, you would've had five minutes, but with an Optimal Revamp, you went straight to only one minute.
"We gotta go," Chat Noir wrapped his arm tightly around your shoulders. He smelled like expensive cologne and hair conditioner. "Better help the fellow out. His crush just got crushed." He pointed to Theo, then looked down at you, "Mind if I lead you out?" You dreamily shook his head, and he took off. He paused and mumbled under his breath, if it weren't for your super bat hearing you wouldn't have caught what he said. "That makes two of us."
You were both on the ledge of a building, with about 20 seconds left. Chat Noir turned to you with his head held low.
"Are you okay?"
He shook his head slightly and bit his lip. "I know it was you, not Ladybug." Then he took off.

The next day at school Adrien was telling you about how he had lost his phone after the fencing lesson. You thought long and hard about when you had last seen him on his phone, but then you realized he was never on his phone around you.
"Maybe you dropped it somewhere?" you offered, but you doubted that was true.
"Well, if I did, then, whoever has it found it in the boys' locker room." He sighed heavily and ran a hand through his hair. "I was checking my voicemail in there during fencing practice."
Before you could offer to help his bag fell out of his seat and its contents sprawled onto the floor. He quickly went to gather it back up, and upon doing so he found his phone.
"Huh? What in the..." He held it up to show you. "I already looked in here a thousand times!"
You giggled and ruffled his hair, suprisingly soft and fluffy. "You need a break from life." You went sure that translated properly into French. But he seemed to get the point.
"Hey... I know... what if... what if we went to the movies tonight?" He began to rub his palms together, fidgeting with his pen between them.
"Like a date?"
He stuttered for a moment but Alya cut in from behind you. "Hey, mind if a few friends tag along?"
Adrien shook his head, rubbing the back of his head. "Not at all. Might as well bring Nino, then, too."
You couldn't tell how that made him feel, but for some reason Marinette was happy enough to jump out of her seat and do a little dance in front of the whole class. You stared at her in disbelief, but a feeling in your hand distracted you.
It was Adrien. He had taken your hand into his, which was slightly sweaty. He leaned closer to you until your shoulders touched. "Why don't you stop by for dinner at my house before the movie? I already talked to my dad this time."
You squeezed his hand and nodded. "That sounds great, Adrien!"
