Happy Valentine's Day
It was Saint Valentine's Day. You were so excited to see how the city of love celebrated. You wondered if Andre's ice cream would have a long line and if the jewelry stores had been cleared out. You thought of the flower shops, and your mind even wondered to the idea of getting Chat Noir a gift. You even blush at the idea that he could've gotten you something.
You opened your locker and Vladd flew from your bag to look at you.
"Don't tell me you're think of Chat Noir again," he drolled. He crossed his tiny arms and looked at you with distaste. You bit your tongue and blushed. "I bet he doesn't like you."
"Thanks a lot," you whispered sarcastically, pulling your books out. You leaned your head into the locker to hide from others.
"I'm just saying, you never talk to him."
You groaned and closed the door. "I'll see you later." You immediately heard snoring and just rolled your eyes. You love Vladd, but he was so blunt, and you had such high hopes for Valentine's Day with Chat Noir. You could only imagine running around the beautiful city together.
You went to meet Adrien by his locker, but you bumped into Marinette, who was chatting lightly with Alya.
"Hey, girl." Alya gave you a hug. "This is Marinette."
"It's so nice to officially meet you," you said, smiling. You gave her two kisses on each cheek.
"Yeah, you too. How do you like France so far?" Marinette seemed much more at ease than she usually did. Her teeth weren't clenched together and her nails weren't digging into her palms. You assumed she had some sort of serious social anxiety that acted up during class.
"It's really nice, I've met so many nice people."
Alya grinned and waved her hand. "Everyone here is so excited to help you, (Y/N). You don't even need to ask."
You thanked her then made your way to class where you took your typical seat next to Adrien. Since you had met up with him he seemed deep in thought, he hadn't even saluted you with more than the cheek kisses. As you sat down he hurriedly pulled out a pen and paper and began to write.
There was nothing you could really say to him. When you asked what he was working on he merely blushed and huddled further into himself.
Without his notes to copy, you tried your best to catch what Miss. Bustier was saying, but she spoke much quicker and formal than the everyday conversation you had grown accustomed to.
Class passed in this manner, with Adrien deep into his writing and you struggling to keep up. You were still making notes on Cinderella as she spoke finished Snow White and moved onto Sleeping Beauty. All you could really gather was that fairy tales were the topic of discussion.
"In most fairy tales, the prince breaks the spell by kissing the princess. Can anyone tell us why?" Miss. Bustier asked.
Rose jumped out of her seat, with a lovely look on her face and swoomed, "Because only love can conquer hate!"
"Correct, Rose."
"Technically speaking," Max said, making notes, "this reasoning is only exhibited in about 87% of all fairy tales and-"
"Thank you, Max," she cut off. "That's enough." She paced back and forth in the front of the room, glancing over her students until her eyes fell on the seat beside you. "Adrien, I hope what you're writing has to do with my lesson."
You bit your lip. If he got in trouble you would blame yourself because you could've made him focus more in class. However, he had in fact been paying attention to class, possibly more than other students. He was engaged with the idea of love that day.
"Can you tell me what I just said?" Miss. Bustier stood in front of him and looked down her nose at him.
Adrien barely looked up from his paper and recited, "That's why in most fairy tales, the prince breaks the spell by kissing the princess because only love conquers hate." He went back to his paper, but Miss. Bustier seemed satisfied.
"Very good, Adrien!" She left his desk and addressed the rest of the class. "Now, everyone, don't forget to finish Sleeping Beauty by Charles Perrault tonight, and happy Valentine's day, students!"
You gathered your things and stood up. You walked around the desk to Adrien's side. "Ready to go?" He paused for a moment, then nodded. He sprung from his seat, suprising you. He crumpled up the paper in his hands. "What's wrong?"
"It's just not right, let's go."
He seemed frustrated, but he was already storming off. As he passed the trashcan he threw his wad of paper away and continued on. You followed him, bumping into Chloe and Sabrina just outside the door.
"Hi Adrien, sign here please." Chloe unrolled the bottom few inches of a large piece of rolled up paper.
Adrien sighed and shook his head. "Oh, come on, you know I hate signing autographs, Chloé."
"Not even for me?" you pouted, giggling.
His body tended up and he turned to look down at you and sternly said, "I would do anything for you." He was so serious, but not intense. It were as though he really wanted you to know it was true. He clutched onto his bag tightly and turned back to Chloe.
"Oh," Chloe continued, ignoring your comment. "this isn't an autograph. This is a petition against cruelty to hamsters!" You snickered at Chloe, crossing your arms and rolling your eyes.
That's when you saw Marinette out of the corner of your eye, knelt down and digging in the trashcan. You signaled to Adrien that you would be right back and went to go see what she was doing.
"Did you lose an... um... ear jewelry?" you asked. She seemed to have been startled but she just shook her head.
"No. I'm looking for a piece of paper I accidently threw away..." she responded shyly. She smiled oddly, making you wonder if she was telling the truth.
"Well well, Marinette, looking for something to eat?" Chloe had appeared in the door frame and began antagonizing Marinette. Sabrina stood beside her, laughing at the joke.
"Maybe she's looking for some better clothes!" Sabrina cackled, throwing her head back in laughter. You rolled your eyes and groaned as the waltzed away, still laughing.
Marinette let out a heavy breath and finally pulled out a crumpled piece of paper. "Yes!"
It looked oddly similar to the paper Adrien had thrown away. "What is that?" you asked a bit aggressively. "Is that belonging to Adrien?" Marinette chuckled at your wording and nodded her head. "So then why are you reading it?"
Marinette was too focused on the handwritten letter in her hands. "Your hair is beautiful and your lips are sweet, your pretty deep eyes have me mesmerized. I wonder who you are beneath that strong disguise. Every day we see each other and I hope that you'll be mine. We may not talk the best, but my heart speaks to you. Together our love could be so true, please, will you be my Valentine?"
You awed. "Woah... are you sure that's Adrien's?" You took a step forward, looking at the letter over her shoulder.
She nodded and hugged the paper to her chest. "Isn't it beautiful?" You nodded in disbelief.
"It's beautiful, but secret. You need to put it back," you began to glare at her. "It's the right thing to do." You left her in the classroom after that to meet with Adrien. "Sorry about that."
"It's no problem," he smiled kindly at you and wrapped his arm around your shoulders. You began to walk down the stairs and out the school. When you were at the front of the school he turned to look at you. "What would you like to do today?"
"What do you mean?"
"I put a lot of thought into asking this girl to be my Valentine's. I even wrote her this love letter, but the more I read over it the more I realized it was stupid." He chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck, shaking his head timidly. "Anyway, I thought it would be less pressure to just hang out together."
You twiddled your fingers nervously. You felt it was important to come clean about reading his letter. "I read your letter, Adrien."
He pulled his arm away and his face flushed a deep red. He began to stutter profusely. "What?!"
"I'm sorry, but Marinette read it. She got from trashcan--"
"'She got it from her the trashcan," he said patiently. "I'm not mad, so don't worry. I'm just embarrassed." You frowned and leaned in to give him a comforting hug. You wrapped your arms around Adrien's back and his went around your neck. He breathed deeply and rested his chin on top of your head. "I think it's beautiful," you whispered.
Adrien tensed for a moment then pulled away from you. "There wasn't a name, right?" You shook your head. "Good, because I don't think she likes me back."
You didn't know how to respond. How could any girl not like him back? You didn't even "like" him, but if he asked you out you would say yes... well, assuming things with Chat Noir didn't change.
Adrien's phone buzzed and when he read the message he groaned in heavy frustration. "I can't have just ONE day." He turned to look at you. "My dad says he wants me back to the house." He closed his eyes for a moment and shook his head.
You stepped in front of him to look him straight in the eyes. "Not a problem, Adrien, you are fine. We can hang out tomorrow. This gives you time to make your letter perfect! You should give it to her!" You smiled brightly and gave him another quick hug.
He still offered you a ride home, but Alya called you from Marinette's house, talking so fast you only caught certain words. "Letter... love... note... mail... sweet!!!"
"I guess we'll meet up tomorrow, then?"
You nodded in a agreement and gave him a small kiss on the cheek to say goodbye. He gave you one more hug and went to wait on his ride while you ran over to the Dupain-Cheng Bakery.
The windows were decorated with tons of sweet pastries. Some were cookies filled with jam, others had icing, and some were just plain. A little bell rung when you opened the door, and the delicious smell of cakes wafted into your nose. Behind the counter, rolling out some dough, was a large man with bug hands and a mustache.
"Hello," you said shyly. He smiled at you and waved. "I'm (Y/N)."
"Oh, yeah, Marinette told me you were coming over. You can go ahead upstairs."
With a quick thank you, you hurried up three flights of stairs to a hatch on the final floor. You opened it up to find Alya standing by Marinette's desk on her phone. Marinette was in a swivel chair at her desk, chewing anxiously on the cap of a black pen.
"Hey, girl!" Alya waved to you and motioned you over. "I'm just helping Marinette write her live letter to Adrien!"
You furrowed your eyebrows and frowned. "What letter?"
Marinette ducked her head and blushed. "The one I found earlier," she mumbled quietly. She returned to writing on a pink, heart-shaped piece of paper.
"You think he wrote it to you?"
"Well, yeah, I mean... I have pretty blue eyes, nice lips, but the reason I know for sure is that he said that we didn't talk the best," she said the last part with confidence, but you still weren't sure.
"Marinette can't get through a single conversation without messing up like a goofus."
You crossed your arms and sat on the edge of the desk. It didn't seem right to you. "I didn't know you liked Adrien," was all you could manage to say.
"Oh! Marinette has the biggest crush on Adrien. Now, we know he likes her, too."
You didn't know who it was for, but you definitely didn't think it was for Marinette.
"Voila!" Marinette said finally, holding up the heart in her hand. She had finished writing her letter to Adrien.
"Don't forget to sign it!" Alya said. A buzzing sounded through the air, and you saw a ladybug had flown in through the window. "This is a good omen! Ladybugs are good luck, especially in the love department!" She nudged Marinette's arm and you shook your head.
"Really?" you asked, looking over Marinette's shoulder at the small bug walking around her letter.
"Yeah," Alya laughed, pulling out her phone, "Marinette of all people should know about ladybugs."
You raised your brows at Alya.
"R-really? Wh-why do you say that?" Marinette stuttered.
She looked down at her phone and read a small excerpt. "Since ancient times the ladybug has been a symbol of love, guiding hearts on the path to devotion." Alya showed her phone to the both of you. "It was on my blog this week. You guys read it, didn't you?"
Marinette's face flushed with relief. "Oh yeah, yeah, of course." She turned back to her computer and sighed heavily as if a weight had been lifted off her shoulders and this was the first breath she had taken.
"I didn't know you had a blog, Alya," you said, going over to her to look at her phone.
"Oh yeah!" she cheered. "It's called the Ladyblog!"
"Do you wrote about Chat Noir?!" you asked quickly, making both girls look at you with a raised brow. "What?"
Marinette smirked at you. "You think he's cute, don't you?"
"Um, try HOT!" Alya laughed. She pulled up a photo of him on her phone. "I write about him sometimes, but the blog is for Ladybug." You nodded in understanding.
You blushed at the thought of Chat Noir once again. "He's so handsome, and sweet."
"Oh my gosh!" Alya squealed, "You're totally crushing on him!" You nodded shyly and looked away from her, holding your arms to your chest.
Marinette gagged and you glared at her. "Why'd you do that?"
Marinette ducked her head and fiddled with her ear. "No reason. But, I think I know a way we can help each other out," she said. She paused for a moment, and when it seemed you were interested she continued. "I might be able to help you with Chat Noir." Your face lit up. "But, you have to help me with Adrien."
You thought for a moment. "I think I need proof you could help with Chat Noir, first."
She nodded in understanding and smiled. "Then I think we have a deal."
