The stares were back as Bella and I walked into our school.

And, it wasn't surprising, not after the shit I pulled yesterday. You know, the scene where I screamed at Evan in the halls and then turned my rage to undeserving crowds of students.

Though, I found myself not caring as much as I usually would. With Bella's hand clasped around mine, and the memories of Chase in my mind, the stares seemed simply insignificant.

But, there were still a question that lingered in the back of my mind, and I'm sure Bella's as well- would we forever be the girls left in grief?

Or, would the memories of our friendship with Isla fade from everyone's minds? Would we become just Bella and Indie again, or will the ghost of Isla walk these halls with us until we graduate?

I wasn't sure which thought hurt me deeper; either we would be cemented with Isla in their heads forever, or we wouldn't.

"Did you put that there?" Bella's question brought me back to reality.

I snapped my head around, my eyes searching for a clue of what she was talking about. It didn't take me long to find it, as we approached our lockers.

The white flowers that decorated Isla's locker were completely gone. Though Bella had done most of the removing the other day, there had still been a few left. Not anymore, however. Her locker was clear of the tribute left by those who didn't know her.

Instead, there was only one flower on her locker. It was right in the centre, a singular yellow sunflower.

I felt my eyes crease as I looked at it, though not in the same way that they did when I saw the other tribute. No, this one didn't make me feel uneasy. This one was perfect.

"No," I shook my head at her. "You didn't either, obviously."

"No, I didn't," Bella hummed out.

We both stood there for a minute, just looking at the pretty flower. Isla would approve. It was her, after all. Beautiful, bright, and exquisitely simple.

"I don't know who else would know it was her favourite flower," I let out, finally turning and opening my own locker.

"Maybe someone else did," Bella answered, but I think we were trying to explain the unexplainable. We both knew that only we knew Isla's taste well enough to know that.

"Well, well, well," I heard Asher's voice before I saw him. I glanced sideways at Bella, seeing her face light up with a smile.

"If it isn't the 5 am track stars," Asher continued, and I heard Bella's laugh from beside me.

"Track stars?" I asked, continuing to get the books I needed from where they were piled on the shelves.

"Yeah," Asher answered, and though I hadn't turned around to see him yet, I could hear the smile on his face. "You know, runners."

My own laugh formed as I realized what he was implying. I shook my head, pulling the last book into my arms. I started to turn around.

"We weren't running, I just needed Bella for something. How'd you even know about..." I felt my face freeze as my words stopped forming.

I had expected to find Asher when I turned, and I did. What stunned me though, was that Chase was standing right beside him. I felt my breath leave my chest as my eyes met his. He looked the same as he always did, with his skinny jeans and flannel, but somehow he looked even better than I remembered.

"Hi," I let out, feeling a blush rise to my cheeks, and I wasn't sure why. I felt nervous, but the good kind of nervous. Like there was a giggle threatening to leave my chest at any moment.

"Hi Indie," Chase smiled at me. His eyes roamed around my face for a second, before his smile widened, the dimples in his cheeks showing. He looked down at his feet, before looking back into my eyes. "You look good."

And... that giggle escaped, making me want to hide my face in my hands with embarrassment.

I watched as Asher and Bella exchanged knowing glances.

"Asher, I have to show you something over here," Bella grabbed Asher's arm, pulling him as she started to walk away. Asher only looked lost for a second before he seemed to understand. "See you after first, Indie."

Traitor.

I looked back to Chase, surprised to see he was still looking at me. He seemed slightly different to the Chase I was used to seeing at school, the one who seemed shy. He was more confident today, and I liked it.

"Good morning," he told me, and my smile grew again.

"Good morning," I said back, closing my locker behind me. "I, uh, sorry about this morning, Chase. I didn't mean to be a runner, or whatever it is that Asher said. I just needed Bella."

"It's fine, Indie," Chase said quickly. "I won't lie and say I wasn't pretty confused when I woke up at five in the morning and you weren't there, but, I get it."

I nodded, rolling my lips together as I took in his words. I was thankful that he understood.

"And, looks like you got some work done for the project too, so... no harm," he continued as he took a step closer to me.

My stomach did a tumble as he gained proximity to me. It was so odd to me that I had been so used to being around Chase, yet now that I had felt what it was like to be around in him a different sense completely, I couldn't control the way my nerves were on fire.

"Does it count if Bella took the picture?" I spoke, though I was barely aware of what words were coming out of my mouth as I tried to shake away the feelings one could only use to describe a crush.

There were no more maybes; it was all a definite yes.

"I think it's fine," Chase let out. He place his hand on the locker behind me, leaning against it, his arm so close it was almost touching me.

"Is it up to the Chase Sutton photography standard?" I asked, my eyes only lingering on his arm for a second before looking back at his face. The way his eyes were trained on me only further reminding me of the way he looked through the dark at me last night.

Chase chuckled, shaking his head. "When you're in the picture, Indie, it can't be anything other than perfect."

I felt my eyebrows raise at his words, feeling a surge of happiness at them.

"Oh," Chase didn't give me time to answer his compliment. "I bought you this."

He held forward a white bag I hadn't realized he was holding. I took it, curiosity striking immediately as I looked into it. A single cinnamon bun was inside, the smell of the sugary treat greeting my nose immediately.

"I, uh, didn't know if you had eaten," Chase told me, as I raised my head back up. He was scratching the back of his head, a glimpse of the shy Chase I was used to peaking through. "I was planning on getting you breakfast anyways, before you..."

"Ran," I finished, biting down on my lip, as if I was trying to hold back my smile from growing any bigger. "Thank you, these are my favourite."

"Yeah?" He asked, "I should have known. They're sweet, just like you."

Chase brought his now empty hand forward, his finger gently looping around my pinky finger. He pulled my hand towards him, just holding it there.

"Indie?" Chase said my name as a question.

"Yeah?"

"Last night..." he paused, a slight flush coming to his skin. "Well, I hope you were okay with how everything went, because it was perfect for me."

I looked down at my feet, the way his words made me feel was almost too much. After I took a breath I looked back up. "It was."

"Good," Chase smiled as he let my hand go. "Good... that's, uh good."

The bell rang, as the students in the hall around us began to move in their patterned routes to class. I sighed, just a small one. I didn't want this moment to be over.

I was about to open my mouth, to tell Chase goodbye, but I noticed his eyes weren't trained on me any longer. He was looking to the left of me, at the yellow flower on Isla's locker.

"Is, is that okay?" He gestured towards it with a flick of his chin.

"I don't know who did it, but yeah. It's okay, actually, it's beautiful. They were her favourite," I explained.

"Oh," Chase nodded. "I, uh, I put it there. I heard Bella say they were her favourite. I took the rest of the white ones off and put that one there instead."

I felt my eyes water, but this time in a good way. In the best way. I could tell by the look in his eyes that he really meant the small gesture.

"It's perfect," I told him, my voice dropping low. "She'd love it, Chase. Thank you."
