there's stardust on my left cheek

after the rest of what i had

all the twinkling stars i'd collected

faded into nothing

i dropped them

because i could not

give up my pursuit

of something better than 

what i had

so i suppose it's hubris

my constant quest

to catch all the stars

i guess it never gets through 

my solid head that

sometimes i have to let go

and i need to put down gently

instead of stumbling into the fire
