Chapter 23:: Kimchi stew
Author's POV:
"Y/Nah!" Hyunjin spoke as you smiled waving at him. You both sat in the cafe as you spoke, "I had something to tell you."
He looked at you noticing your expressions. You were smiling, he looked at you not sure of what you were about to say.
"I-" You were speaking but got cut off by a voice.
"Ah, Hyunjin? Y/N? Hello!" It was Mirae. You looked at her blankly before passing her a fake smile. Hyunjin who noticed her sighed faking a smile. But it was obvious the smile was forced.
"May I sit here if you don't mind?" She asked as you awkwardly looked at her. You coughed awkwardly, not sure of what to say. Hyunjin wasn't looking comfy but he still didn't react much.
"Ah, am I bothering you both?" She asked as Hyunjin spoke, "Y/N, one minute. I have something to talk about with Mirae. I'll be back." He spoke gesturing for her to follow him who was smiling happily.
You nodded seeing them leave. You sighed but soon spoke, "I don't feel uneasy anymore. The only thing which is making me uneasy is her weird behaviour." You were playing with your fingers when you got a text. Frowning you saw it was from Taehyung. You smiled feeling happy.
--Meanwhile
"Mirae." Hyunjin sternly spoke as Mirae looked at him innocently.
"Stop, now. Why would you interrupt someone's conversation like that?" He spoke as Mirae replied, "Ah, did I bother you too much? Sorry! I just thought... it was a forced date." Hyunjin looked at her a little confused.
"I've told you many times and I am telling you again, I don't have feelings for you. Nor did I ever have any. I am arranged to Y/N, and you know that. Why are you still clinging onto me?" He asked as she replied, "You don't like her though."
"What?" Hyunjin asked as she replied, "You don't even like her, why are you acting up like that? Do you think you'll be happy with her? I think you like me more than her."
"What are you saying?" Hyunjin asked as Mirae spoke, "Everyone knows about her little crush on you and how you don't like her back. It's embarrassing for her too! Isn't it? How long do you think she'll like you? Eventually, she'll leave. So, come to me! I am not leaving, you see." She smiled mischievously as Hyunjin sighed.
"Isn't that matter mine and Y/N's? It's no headache for you. So please leave now. And, I might not have that feeling for her but I sure like her more than you." He spoke leaving as Mirae let out an airy gasp.
"I only like him. What a prick." She spoke scoffing.
"I am back." Hyunjin spoke as you replied, "Ah, what happened?" He shook his head smiling.
"What were you saying?" He asked as you looked at your phone while your eyes widened. You quickly spoke, "Can we talk later? I have an emergency. See you." You spoke running out leaving him dumbfounded.
"Is she offended..?" He asked himself as you quickly went towards the park near your house with a taxi.
"What does he mean- Did he injure himself seriously?! Why can't he even act like a 26-year-old?!" You bombarded yourself with questions as the driver driving coughed awkwardly. 15 minutes... 20 minutes and now you were in front of his door ringing the doorbell.
Taehyung whined while cursing the one who rang the bell, walking towards the front door with his swollen toe, he opened the door ready to scream his heart out but stopped seeing you standing in front of him.
"What are you- doing here?" He asked as you replied, "You messaged me saying your leg broke and you were about to die- wait, you look fine though.." He looked at you confused before checking his phone as his eyes widened.
"So...will you believe me if I say it was for my secretary and not you... and I accidentally sent you the wrong message." He spoke thinning his lips as you eyed him saying, "That's... but- why on earth did you say you broke your leg? You're completely fine!"
"How do I look fine to you?" He asked as you blinked innocently.
"I stubbed my toe on that hard and perfectly defined pure wooden drawer that I ordered from Japan. PURE wood. Do you realize how hard it is? My toe fingers are so fragile and weak... just like cotton- HOW DO YOU- I mean, How do you expect me to be okay? Breaking my leg is an understatement." He spoke looking at you with pure seriousness.
You took a deep breath saying, "I see." You were not even surprised by his behaviour at this point.
"I left the cafe almost running like it's the end of the world, for this." You mumbled as he looked at you confused.
"I am sorry- you should've messaged me. Why did you come? Well, you just left yesterday morning. Now you're back." He spoke as you sighed saying, "Yeah, I know right. How did you even stub your toe though?"
He gulped scratching his head cluelessly looking at the interesting marble floor.
"Have this. I brought this for you after all. Though I feel like a fool." You spoke handing him the bundle of soy milk you brought for him.
"You brought it for me?" He asked as you nodded blankly. He smiled like a little kid who got his favourite candy. You looked at him unpacking the soy milk bottles as he stored them in the fridge leaving two on the table.
"Have one." He spoke as you sighed taking one bottle.
"Did you come here running? Why are you sweating?" He asked as you spoke, "Do I look like a dumbo like you? Why would I run when I can call a taxi?" He nodded at your statement. You looked at him as a smile appeared on your lips. You weren't bothered by the fact you just ditched Hyunjin. Funny how you weren't even regretting it.
"Yah, do you know?" You asked Taehyung who looked at you curiously.
"I ditched Hyunjin at a cafe and dashed here." You spoke as he looked at you confused, shocked, surprised, baffled. As if a thousand emotions attacked him together.
"But I don't regret it." You giggled as he looked at you blankly trying to figure out what was wrong.
"Do you have a fever? Did I pass my fever to you?" He asked as you sighed.
"Yah. Do you want a beating?" You spoke as he looked at you in disbelief before sarcastically laughing.
"Nice try but no." You scoffed before saying, "You're dumb. I think my feelings changed!"
He listened to you as you eyed him, seeing him sit quietly as you asked, "Are you going to rethink your life choices now?"
"No... it's just that, even a few weeks ago, you were crying and now you're saying your feelings changed?" He spoke as you nodded.
"I know right. What changed my feelings?" You asked looking at your soy milk bottle as he spoke, "Something very mysterious. Probably me~" He joked laughing as you sighed eyeing him.
"You aren't bickering? Is it me??" He joked coming near you as you coughed awkwardly moving away, feeling strange again.
"Tch, let me go to the washroom. Wait here." He spoke getting up as you gulped nodding. He left as you thought deeply.
"I don't know about Hyunjin but when he comes near me like that... it makes me feel strange. Come to think of it, I just ditched Hyunjin for him. Woah, what's with you Y/N?" You asked yourself gulping down your soy milk sighing deeply, holding your chest while feeling your strange heartbeat.
Taehyung washed his hands while looking at himself in the mirror.
"Why do I feel so happy? What if she's just joking around..? She looked serious though. If she breaks off her marriage... then she'll be single-" He coughed realizing what he was saying.
"Kim Taehyung! Shh, don't think that. Let's patiently wait and see what happens. I promised myself to not get swayed!" He spoke trying not to be over-excited.
"Wait, if she fell out of love, isn't it a little sad for her? Should I be happy? No- no- don't think about this. Forget it, she didn't mention falling out of love. Why do I always overreact?! Let's go." Walking out of the washroom, trying to control his emotions, he sat in front of you.
You looked at him before looking away.
"It's 6:30 pm. I should go back." You spoke as he looked down nodding. He was debating whether to make you stay for dinner or not.
"Y/N Y/N." He spoke as you looked at him confused while getting up from the sofa.
"WillYouStayIfIAskYouToBecauseIDon'tThinkICanCookDinnerByMyself." He spoke as you looked at him confused.
"What?" You asked as he coughed speaking, "So...I mean..." He wasn't sure what to say, almost giving up. He really wanted you to stay for dinner, after all, seeing you after almost a week, and especially that night, he wanted to spend some time with you as friends.
"Okay. I'll stay for dinner then." You spoke as he looked at you baffled.
'How did she understand?' He thought. You fake-coughed a little asking, "Should we order in or cook ourselves?"
"Cook? I guess. I can cook." He spoke as you thinned your lips saying, "Well... I think- umm, you never ate my cooking right? Let me cook!"
He nodded innocently not knowing that you basically tricked him into not cooking. You weren't in any mood of eating saltless food at the moment.
"What will you cook?" He asked as you walked towards the kitchen checking the ingredients saying, "Hmm... I see you restocked your empty fridge. How about... kimchi stew?"
"Oh! Nice!" He spoke as you smiled nodding. You quickly took out all the necessary ingredients as you both stared at the table.
"Something seems missing." You spoke as he nodded staring at the table.
"Wait, the kimchi is missing." He spoke as you made an 'o'.
"Right- kimchi is missing while making kimchi stew. How tragic-" You gulped as Taehyung looked at you and then the table with a disappointed look.
"Well, should we just make kimchi stew without kimchi?" He asked as you looked at him with an 'i am so done' look before sighing.
"You know what? Let's just order in. This is not quite right." You spoke as he nodded taking out his phone to order.
