The Cafe
Nova's POV:
Training had finally gotten over for the day, so I got cleaned up to head to work. I work at the coffee shop in town to get away from the rowdiness of my pack. The warm scent of freshly ground beans and baked goods puts my soul at ease. Thankfully, my grandmother has been occupied with organizing patrols and borders, so I could slip off to work.
"Welcome back Nova! How was your birthday?" Tom, the owner of the shop, greeted me.
"My birthday was great! I am really happy that I am an adult now," I grinned hiding the grim facts from him to protect him. Slowly, I slipped my apron on, and head behind the main counter.
"How has business been today Tom?" I asked. He looked a little bummed as he looked around the café.
"Today has been slow, unfortunately, but hey what can you expect out of a Monday am I right?" he laughed softly. Just as Tom said, the café was very calm but endearing. Little did I know these would be the most eventful hours of my life.
"I'll have a small mocha latte please," an older woman ordered with a warm smile.
"Of course, that will be $3.50," I replied grabbing a small cup from under the counter. I took the money from the lady and she walked slowly over to one of the nearby tables. Like normal, I got to work on her order, but I noticed the overwhelming and distracting scent of burnt marshmallows flooding my nostrils. My wolf then started to scream mate over and over again as the scent got even closer. I hurried the woman's order not realizing I made way too much for the little cup, so I grabbed a large cup and then put the order out. She gave a warm smile and walked out of the shop. Calm yourself, Nova, you can't scare her away dumbass.
"I am just saying this is a little shady Ruby, but who am I kidding I love coffee," a voice commented in the distance. My heart was pounding so hard, the room started to become fuzzy yet warm. Finally, the beautiful woman walked into my view. She was about 5'6 and dressed in a flannel with a Pink Floyd Album tank top underneath highlighting her defined collarbone. Her hair was a medium length with a golden hue the sun would be jealous of. However, the most captivating part of her was her auburn eyes filled with warmth and love that I couldn't wait to look into for the rest of my life. As soon as our eyes met I noticed the red hue covering her freckled cheeks. The boy accompanying her gave her a knowing look of I'll let you two gays figure this out. He walked ahead and ordered a small cup of iced coffee with oat milk cream. As I was making his order, I noticed Ruby nervously leaning on the counter. I swear I have never made a coffee so fast, so I could talk to my mate.
"Hey there cutie," I exclaimed trying to hide the red from my face. My wolf was screaming to grab her and take her away with me, but I had to push it down. She had the biggest smile on her face, and she quickly pulled out a piece of paper scribbling down a note.
"Here is my number beautiful," she replied with her angelic voice. Quickly, I got to work on a frozen drink concoction. She looked at me with a puzzled yet intrigued expression. I decided I was going to treat her to my favorite drink at the cafe, our cotton candy latte. As I was finishing up the drink, I noticed her eyes glued to my chest in awe. I could smell her arousal, and it was near impossible to not let my wolf take over.
"I made this for you, I hope you like it!" I giggled knowing my face must be crimson at this point. As I was distracted by the commotion, I hadn't noticed that Tom walked right behind me. Ruby gave me a face of concern and fear for me. One thing you have to know about Tom is that he is a staggering 6'5 with a serious expression always plastered on his face. However, as you get to know him he is a complete softy with a grumpy exterior. I have known him ever since I was a pup. The first day I met him was when I fell in the woods trying to learn the borders of our clan myself. My leg was mangled, and I was a blubbery mess. By some miracle, he was out hunting when he heard my wails of pain. He took me back to the coffee shop, and patched me up with medicine and bandages. We talked for hours about different species of wildlife, and he offered his expertise in fishing the local rivers. As he did that, he managed to find where my parents were located, and he returned me to the pack. Over the years, I had hunt and fished with him. Although not biological, he basically was the best grandparent a kid could ask for. I have been working for him as long as I could remember.
"Hey lovebirds, you should go outside and get to know eachother better," he claimed in his gruff voice. I looked to Tom with a bit of shock and gratitude on my face.
"Don't you need me to close up shop tonight?" I asked with a puzzled tone.
"I've got it Nora, you go get her," he exclaimed patting me on the back. As I prepared to leave he whispered something along the lines of how else will I get grand babies.
"Thank you so much Tom!" I cheered walking over to my mate.
