"Muhammad you..."Layla started but choked on her own tears. She had thought he would stop all his wrong doings, but she was so stupid to believe him. A guy like him isn't to be trusted, ever.
"I'm..."
She cut him off, "keep it to yourself Muhammad, seriously what where you thinking ? Kidnapping a married woman and even went as far as forcing her to marry you ? What did you take me for ? A fool ? Ya Allah I should've known you were just using me, and nothing else. You never really loved me Muhammad."
"It's not like that, I did all of that for our future, I want our future to be good la..."
"Don't."Layla stopped him. "I don't want my name to come out of your filthy mouth. Our future you say ? There will be no future for us, it's over Muhammad as in over, get that into your thick skull."
Muhammad sighed, why is she making everything difficult for him. He agreed he forced Maryam but she is more beautiful than her, that's why he did it.
"May you never find peace Muhammad, I pray you get punished for your deed, for breaking my heart too. It's not good to wish one death, but..."She shook her head and stood up. "No, I'll just leave now."with that she left without saying anything to him again.
Layla lay on her bed and looked fixedly at the revolving ceiling fan above her head, as if counting the number of revolution of the blades. She looked very pale and her lips were quite dry. She was oblivious of Zahra, who had been sitting at her bedside for over an hour, she didn't appear to be aware of the entry of Yusrah. Her gaze remained at the fan.
"Zahra, what's wrong why did you call me here at this time of the day?"Yusrah asked, forcing a small smile, her eyes fixed on Layla the whole time.
"She has been like this since she came home, and I'm worried I thought you might know something."Zahra answered, her voice a low monotone.
"Oh, I don't know anything, we haven't been in touch."said Yusrah in a sympathetic voice.
"I knew Muhammad wasn't to be trusted, I had warned her earlier now look."Zahra cried, and shook her head.
Layla looked at Zahra. There was apparently nothing too alarming about her condition, but she noticed that something was different about her today, she looked depressed or rather in pain.
"Excitement."Layla spoke, her voice breaking. "Disappointment, and expectation..."She paused briefly, and sniffed back a tear. "They make the hustle and puzzle of life, they determine whether or not one should cry or laugh, runs or walks, and keep one moving on wherever one may be, be it anywhere."she sighed.
Zahra and Yusrah stared at her quizzically, they understood that she was speaking English but none of it made sense to their ears.
"I may have been cheated, used and then duped at the end. I may be broken inside, I may be weak, and also burning with anger inside, but that won't stop me from moving on."Layla closed her eyes slowly, letting their tears roll down her cheeks.
"When I was suppose to be thinking about my life, my future, my family and everything, I didn't. Instead, I ignored the truth and blindly took up the wrong path."She heaved a long sigh.
If Zahra was that kind of friends she would've said directly to Layla's face "I told you so." But she won't, she agreed that she was right all the way but she can't remind Layla of that, but she will try in consoling her, and make her see things differently, not to see it as everything was her fault, Albeit it was she will still try.
"Layla..."Zahra called in a somber tone, rubbing Layla's hands lightly, as though it'll make her feel better. "It's not your fault."not much, but she had nothing.
Slowly Layla turned her head, looked at Zahra, and gave her a weak smile. A forced smile, Zahra knew that for sure.
"It wasn't my fault?"Layla asked, almost choking on her own tears.
Zahra was quiet, what would she say? No? Or yes? When everything was indeed Layla's fault.
"It was your fa..."Yusrah started her blabbering but Zahra hit her arm to make her stop. "I mean it wasn't your fault, you were just being naive."She was at it again, earning another smack from Zahra. She isn't making things better for Layla rather she is making it hard for her. Her tongue it too harsh, nothing goods come out of it.
"Will you just shut up?"Zahra snapped, with a tight smile.
"I think I'm not needed here, Anyway I'll be in the living room, you know where to find me when you want to talk."Layla ended emphasizing on the 'talk'
Zahra rolled her eyes heavenwards and sighed, her attention moving back to Layla whose gaze was back to the ceiling fan.
"What really happened?"Zahra asked slowly observing Layla. She was just curious to know what Muhammad did this time. The dude is something else.
What do you expect from a psycho whose IQ is filled with box of crayons.
"Isn't it obvious?"Layla remarked, staring earnestly at Zahra, as if in thought. "I'm surprised why I'm still able to breath, because every single breath I take it reminds me of Muha..."Layla stopped and shut her eyes. The mere sound of his name brings nothing but pain. There relationship was nothing but a lie and a cheat. After he was done using her in every way possible, he then dumped her and expect her to keep shut ?
Well, he has messed with the wrong person.
"Forget about him, and move on with your life Layla, he isn't worthy of your tears."Zahra suggested as if it was that easy.
"It's easy to be said than done Zahra."Layla's reply was curt.
"It would've been easy if our relationship wasn't deep, I'm pregnant."Layla paused, bursting into another spasms of sobs. "With his child, I can't bear it, I feel sad and angry at the same time whenever I think about our past, the past I had together with Muhammad, it was everything I had ever wished for, someone to love and care for me like he did, I never got that from my family I think that's why I fell for his trap, and he used me as a prawn to get away. I got carried away by his fake love for me. It did really break me, but the good thing is I won't give up so easily, I know it will be hard but I'll make sure to end his life."Layla concluded, her voice was filled with anger.
"I can understand, but vengeance isn't always the way."
"If I don't back down then he will take me as a coward, he didn't see the real me Zahra. I was being gentle with him because of the I had for him, not not anymore. Layla is not known for the weak, she is known for determination. And when I'm determined to achieve something, I will surely achieve it."Layla turned and flashed Zahra a hard look.
"Take you as a coward? That doesn't matter. He is the biggest coward, and not you Layla so don't be like him, instead be yourself, a best version of yourself."Zahra reasoned.
"You can be a champion or a chicken, the choice is yours. I wasn't born to be a chicken or a champion, but this time around I won't be a chicken or a champion but I won't give up."
Zahra nodded, she didn't understand a thing, but it's still about revenge. It will be hard to make Layla understand, revenge isn't always the best way to solve one's problem, but peace of mind. When you're at peace nothing else will bother you.
