Chapter 16: Saved by Shoes

Hey guys! Sorry this took so long for me to write. I kind of got sidetracked with well... a lot of things. =/ It's a long story really, and well... most of it I've already vented about it to Marisa. So thank her for me getting this done. Without her, it would still be sitting unfinished on my laptop. >.< So without further to do, here is the bachelorette party! Wedding is next chapter! =D

"Cause it's my night; no stress, no fights, I'm leaving it all behind. No tears, no time to cry, just making the most of life." –It's Like That, Mariah Carey

It was an odd feeling knowing that your significant other was partying and there wasn't anything you could do about it. Draco sat in his room at his cousin's manor, finding himself wondering what kind of mischief Audrey and her friends were getting into at her bachelorette party. Admittedly, he was unsure if he even wanted to know what was going on. Draco knew he had nothing to worry about, but he couldn't help but worry anyways.

The blond boy sighed, falling backwards onto his bed. He closed his eyes for a moment as he let his mind wander. It was hard to believe that in less than a week, he was going to be married. Draco was honestly becoming anxious; as days passed, he just wanted it to hurry up and get here finally. Everything was set, the rehearsals were over, and now it was just about time for the real thing. The boy was ready to begin his life with Audrey already.

His thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. Draco was honestly baffled as to who could be at his door at this time of night. "Come in?" he answered.

When he saw Artemis enter his room, he realized the only nutcase who would be up at this time of night was his cousin. "I didn't wake you did I?" the Irish boy asked, quietly.

"Certainly not," Draco scoffed. "What do you need?"

Artemis shrugged, taking a seat at the desk. He turned to face his cousin. "Admittedly I have no idea. I think it's mostly because I can't sleep. I was unsure you were even awake."

"Meh, I'm only up because Audrey's at her bachelorette party," Draco admitted.

Artemis' eyes widened for a moment. "Oh, that was tonight wasn't it?" Draco barely nodded, so he continued. "You have nothing to worry about though. So why can't you sleep?"

"Just anxious I guess. We only have a few days left, Artemis," Draco answered. "I mean... we're so close I can taste it." He released a breath he hadn't realized he had been holding in.

Artemis cleared his throat. "By the way, I've been meaning to bring this up for a while now, but I wanted to apologize for when I barged in that one morning. I understand why you wanted to be left alone."

That remark caused Draco to sit back up and give Artemis a curious glance. "Do you now? Do you really understand why?"

Artemis nodded. "I understand what transpired. I'm not stupid, Draco. I just... I suppose wasn't putting two and two together at the time." He chuckled slightly. "I suppose I had gotten too used to everything being like old times. I'm definitely not used to a girl being in the house other than my mother."

Draco smiled. He had been worried about his cousin's judgment for a moment. "Glad to hear it Artemis. And I apologize for snapping on you. I was just really wanting to sleep."

Artemis chuckled once again. "I can understand that. I'm sure you two had a very enticing evening."

Draco shook the lingering thoughts about that night from his mind. He had thoroughly enjoyed what happened. But then again, why shouldn't have he? "Enticing doesn't begin to cover it," he eventually muttered.

Artemis smiled knowingly before he posed his question, "So am I allowed to bring a... err... date to your wedding?"

Draco gave his cousin a shocked look. Artemis had a date? That was something worth paying to see. "Um... I don't see why not," he answered, both miffed and interested at the same time. "Who is she?"

Draco saw Artemis' face flash pink for the first time in his life. "She's just a friend, Draco," he answered quietly. "Her name is Minerva. She... went to Beauxbatons."

Draco smirked. It was all too obvious that Artemis fancied this girl. It would just be completely rude to say no. "Of course you can bring her," he answered.

Artemis smiled. "Thanks Draco." He paused for a moment. "So what do you think Audrey and her friends are up to right now?"

Draco sighed and shook his head. "I don't even want to know."

                                                                         *****

The music pulsed through Audrey's body as she and her friends danced on the wooden dance floor the Weasleys constructed specifically for the bachelorette party. The music blared throughout the countryside, making it known to everyone that there was a celebration of epic proportions occurring. Audrey had only invited a few of her friends, and the only ones who really showed up were the four who were living at the Burrow. So there she was dancing with Hermione, Ginny, Nicole, and Krystie, carelessly having fun.

Audrey moved quietly away from the dancing and over to a nearby table. The girl took a seat as she took a sip from a glass of Firewhiskey, feeling it burn all the way down to her stomach. Admittedly, she had had a little too much to drink that evening, but for her, that could've been because she had never allowed herself more than a sip of alcohol in her life. She didn't mind though; she knew she was in safe company who wouldn't let her do anything too stupid. But then again, when her friends were far tipsier than she was, there was a problem. Audrey had only been drinking mildly, while her friends were nearly completely wasted by now.

The girl stood, sitting down her empty glass just in time to hear her friends scream out in joy. Almost immediately, Audrey glanced over to them, trying to place what could've been causing the commotion. It didn't take long for her to discover someone had ordered the wizarding world equivalent to the Chippendales, or in other words, male dancers. The girl rolled her eyes at the thought; as attractive as the men were, they couldn't compete with Draco in her eyes.

"So where is the lucky lady?" one of them asked rather loudly.

"Over here!" she heard a very intoxicated Krystie call out.

Within moments, Audrey found Nicole and Krystie standing in front of her, both dragging the arms of one of the dancers who appeared to be about their age. The girl wanted to run, but she knew she couldn't have gotten too far in her state and with her heels on. The girls stood him in front of her and started talking wildly about how she was getting married; Audrey honestly didn't care what they were saying; she was too concerned about who was standing in front of her. As her friends bounded away in a fit of giggles, Audrey found herself alone with someone she honestly hoped she had never had to see again.

"Maverick," she breathed, taking a step backwards. She found herself to be far more sober suddenly than she should've been at the moment. "What the hell are you doing here?"

"I was just doing my job," the Russian boy answered her. "I had no idea that this was your party. Or that you were getting married in the first place."

"Well I am," Audrey replied. "And since when have you been a dancer?"

"It's a side job," Maverick responded.

Audrey sat back down in her chair, trying to figure out how the hell she was going to explain this one. When Maverick sat down across from her, she realized that this situation was only going to get worse. "You know you can go entertain them, right?" she hissed, eager to get rid of her ex.

"They're not nearly as fascinating as you," he replied, resting his head on his hand seductively. "Such a shame you're marrying this guy."

"He's not just a guy, Maverick," Audrey reiterated. "I'm marrying Draco Malfoy in six days." She was hoping that she could somehow scare this guy off, but so far her efforts were futile. She was either going to have to find something outrageous to say, or simply do what her mother had taught her to do when a man wouldn't leave her alone. At the moment, she was leaning towards the second option.

"Malfoy? You mean that prat who was on your Quidditch team?" Maverick raised an eyebrow. When Audrey nodded, he went on. "You've got to be kidding me."

"What does it matter to you? You dumped me remember? What happened to the Beauxbatons girl you were so fond of?" Audrey countered. "Now that we've established that, I suggest you leave me alone." The girl went to leave when she felt a hand grasp around her wrist tightly, pushing her back against the nearby wall. She turned to see him staring down at her with a devilish look in his eyes. "This isn't funny; now let me go."

He laughed evilly. "Now why would I want to do that? There would be no fun in that." Audrey felt his grip on her wrist tighten as she tried to wiggle her way out. "I have you right where I want you."

Audrey felt herself begin to panic. There was only one thing she could do; the girl immediately stomped her stiletto's heel directly into his foot. The boy released her from his grasp for a moment to grab his foot in pain.

"Douchebag," she muttered under her breath as she walked away from him as quickly as she could. The girl went directly into the house, doing her best to stay hidden and out of sight of the windows. Audrey sat down at the kitchen table, taking a deep breath in an attempt to calm down.

Her thoughts were all jumbled. How the hell did Maverick get into her party for one? And why was he so forceful and flirty with her when he knew she was getting married? Everything just seemed far too convenient for her to ignore it. Something wasn't right, she just wasn't sure what.

In the middle of her thoughts, Audrey found herself being interrupted by Ginny walking into the room. The red-headed girl looked at her curiously for a moment before speaking. "What are you doing inside? Shouldn't you be outside dancing and having fun?" she asked.

"I was almost a victim of sexual assault," Audrey answered her. She beckoned Ginny over, hiding carefully behind the curtain of the nearby window. She peered outside for a moment before pointing out Maverick to Ginny. "That guy sitting at the table is my ex. He backed me against a wall, said something about having me right where he wanted me, so I stomped on his foot as hard as I could. These shoes might've saved my life," Audrey explained.

"Oh hell no," Ginny hissed. "I'm going to take care of this problem so you can get back to having fun! Don't you worry one bit. This guy is going to regret the day he showed up here."

Audrey smiled. "Thanks Ginny. You're the best."

Ginny winked before she walked back outside, leaving Audrey sitting inside by herself. She rested her head against the table, kind of hoping that this night could finally end. She was honestly tired of being the center of attention, and she really just wanted to be back at home with Draco. The girl couldn't wait to be able to walk down the aisle, seeing him standing there waiting for her... Audrey found her thoughts drifting further and further away the longer she sat there.

"Get out!" she heard Ginny's enraged voice echo across the grounds. And that was when Audrey knew it was safe for her to go back outside. She made her way back out to the party. She took another swig of Firewhiskey before she joined her friends on the dance floor.

Hours flew past, and soon, Audrey found the sun rising over the horizon. All of her friends were passed out from all the dancing and alcohol consumption. It was safe to say that they had a blast at the bachelorette party, and it was also fair to say her friends had far more fun with the dancers and alcohol than she did. It had been a long night, and for once the girl was extremely tired. She was lying on the wooden swing in the backyard, and honestly she couldn't wait to be back in a familiar bed. After she helped clean up, she would be going back to Artemis' manor, and she would remain there for a while. At least until after the wedding when she and Draco would be leaving for the honeymoon. Audrey had no idea where they were going, but she was already excited about it.

The girl turned away from the sun, trying her hardest to sleep before she had to get up and clean up. Soon after, her eyes had closed tight and she finally dozed off after a very eventful party...
