Chapter 6
Federalist Republics of Pyolangi - Glitch
As Glitch prepared himself for a press conference, he answered the questions thought up by his mind, preparing for questions the media might ask.
Why did you declare war?
Who is the possible invader?
Do you think we'll win the war?
Snapping out of his thoughts, he heard the spokesperson of the Office of the Prime Minister announce, "Please welcome the Prime Minister of Pyolangi, Glitch!"
He drank a bottle of water, before he walked towards the camera lights. Flashes of cameras rushed at him, covering his eyes in the process. Rounds of applause were given to him, as he looked at the long table in front of him. Seated from right to left, he saw the Premier of Pyolangi, Cayden; the Minister of National Defense, Raeden; the Minister of the National Air Force, Brennus; the Minister of the Armed Forces, Hermann; and the Minister of the Defense Navy, Drew; and finally, the Prime Minister himself.
Raeden had started on announcing the news of the invasion of Pyolangi's sovereignty by a huge fleet, later found out to be a successor nation of Radish Land -- The Republic of Shadow Walkers.
"Our armies were about to send a warning signal to the said fleet," Hermann said. "But by the time we were about to do so, they had started bombing the former city of Verdenheim."
"We have to take action to defend Pyolangi's sovereignty. So that our freedom will not be in jeopardy," Brennus added.
"In fact, we are mobilizing our armies as we speak. The Air Force is now clashing with the enemies. Our armies are on their way to Verdenheim and its surrounding areas," Cayden spoke.
"And because of the fact that we are now trying to contact the Republic of Shadow Walkers, we are now exploring the possibility of contacting other surviving nations," Drew told the press.
"Any more questions?" Glitch asked.
Journalists soon came rushing near the table, even knocking over some cameramen in the process.
"What's the progress in contacting other possible nations so far?"
The Prime Minister had answered, "So far, we don't have any luck. We tried sending signals to the coordinates of Navire and Galastaria, but it's not doing so well."
Another reported had asked, "Do you know who is the leader of the Republic of Shadow Walkers?"
This time, the Prime Minister had paused. Shadow Walkers... Naomi, why did you have to attack my nation?
As he thought of about Naomi and his former friends, he had wondered where did they go. He wondered about their current whereabouts... and how are they doing.
If they made it alive.
The Premier had spoke up for him, "Based on our findings, we had discovered that Naomi is the current President of the Republic of Shadow Walkers."
"Wait, Naomi is Glitch's old friend before he ran for the Office of the Prime Minister, right? What do you feel about that, after being attacked by your old friend?"
Glitch had clenched his fists on the table, before speaking out, "I thought we were friends! But then I asked myself why is she invading the nation that she used to be friends with?"
He then stared directly at the camera of Pyolangi's official news outlet. "Please explain this agression, Republic of Shadow Walkers."
He then plastered an angry expression. "Or else you're going to regret it."

After a couple hours, Nathan saw the ruined skyline of Verdenheim -- dark, cold, and empty. On the oceans were battleships and aircraft carriers. And above the skyline, he saw the jet fighters of both Pyolangi and the enemies fight against each other. He saw an explosion glow in the sky, and fragments of the aircraft fell like a meteorite.
He could also feel himself get a little sick due to radiation, but he was glad the army could get hazmat suits. As he thought about the hazmat suits, he also remembered that Pyolangi used to be the leader of scientific research, and that it used to have advanced weapons and equipment too.
But all were lost due to the nukes, except the anti-nuclear equipment that's currently used by the army.
The military truck he was in stopped.
"Let's move out!" Sergeant Salem yelled. Nathan, as well as the rest of the team, unloaded from the truck.
The moment Nathan stepped on foot, he could already hear explosions, gunshots, and artillery fire echo from the distance. However, the ruined skyline of Verdenheim had reminded him to that of Perlough after it was nuked. Along with the flashback came the memory of his sister as he carried her body, contaminated with fallout.
He looked around and saw the tanks and artilleries positioned on the hillside, facing Verdenheim. The war equipment continuously fired against the city, hopefully destroying hiding places that the enemy could hide in.
"Listen up!"
He turned towards the sergeant.
"Before the war, Prime Minister Thomas had prepared tunnels all over the country in case of an attack. We could all use that to our advantage, because they don't know about the tunnels after observing their movement. All of us position at the tunnels under Verdenheim, rendezvous near the coastline, and attack them from behind! But watch out for artillery fire! Got it?!"
"Yes, sir!" all of them answered.
"Good! Now let's move out!"
For my family... he thought as he ran towards the closest tunnel in the hillside. And for Pyolangi!
As he ran towards south, he could hear the brick tunnel tremble alongside bomb explosions and artillery fire. A couple of rocks fell from the ceiling as the earth shook. He ran through the tunnel that felt like a maze, occasionally seeing a couple of his teammates.
Then he ran across a soldier, bearing the flag of a nation he doesn't know about. The enemy soldier's arms held another soldier, wounded, bleeding to death with his left leg cut off.
"Stay with me, brother... Stay with me..." he muttered to his wounded comrade. He then noticed Nathan standing there, with his gun pointed towards him.
"Please don't... I'm only doing this for my family and friends," he begged. He then raised his hands and dropped the gun in surrender.
Part of Nathan wanted to feel pity for the guy as he got reminded of Perlough.
"I was a citizen of Almeria... who was forced to join Radish Land's military because they threatened to have my family killed. And now I'm stuck in the armed forces of the Republic of Shadow Walkers..."
"Radish Land...!"
Nathan clenched his fists as the thought of Radish Land came back to him.
"Bastard!"
He gritted his teeth and pulled the trigger. The next thing he knew, the soldier dropped on the ground, with a bullet hole on his chest.
"Noooo-- ulk!" his wounded comrade cried. Nathan heard his cry, and gasped.
Oh no... What have I done?!
"What have you done-- ow!"
The wounded soldier tried to reach for the dropped gun. Out of instinct, he pulled the trigger, and the man went limp.
His hands trembled, then he dropped the gun. Two bodies had collapsed on the floor... Two people who didn't want to hurt him. He could only ask himself what had he done.
He turned back towards where he came from. He wished he could escape out of this madness and live in peace. But then he remembered his family in Perlough, only alive and unharmed by fallout because of him serving in the military.
Oh, f**k me...
He looked ahead of the tunnel, only to be reminded of the worst part...
And it's only just the beginning...
* * * * *
Yep... That just happened.
What will happen next? Will Nathan become insane? Will Glitch be able to contact other nations? What will become of Pyolangi and its army? Find out next time in Chasing Chaos!
That's it from me, everyone!
