Chapter 18: Welcome Home, Hiccup

-Hiccup-

I woke up to the sound of fighting.

Great. I thought as I snuggled up against Toothless. After trying to sleep for maybe another 10 minutes, I gave up.

I squinted, trying to see who was causing all this sound, and if we're being honest here, I wasn't surprised when I saw Tuffnut and Ruffnut fighting over a piece of bread.

I sighed and blinked several times, trying to adjust my eyes to the bright light of the morning sun that was shining down on all of us, warming us up a little.

I stretched and yawned as I got up.

I brushed off the sand that had stuck to my body over the night and walked over to the twins.

"What are you guys fighting over now?" I asked, yawning.

"Ah, Hiccup! Thank you for finally deciding to help me out! You see, my sister here is claiming that this beautiful loaf belongs to her" Tuffnut exclaimed.

I cocked my eyebrow and crossed my arms.

"Ruff?"

"HE TOOK IT FROM MY SATCHEL!" Ruffnut said, getting straight to the point.

"Sounds like you stole, Tuff, give it back" I commanded him and gestured to his sister.

"BUT I'M HUNGRY"

"I don't think you quite understood what I was trying to tell you, Tuff, give it back, or neither of you will have anything" I said sternly.

Tuffnut quickly shoved the bread into Ruffnut's arms and backed away.

"Thank you, Hiccup" Ruff said as she began eating the bread.

I sighed and walked back to Toothless, who was now awake. I opened my satchel and threw him a nice little fish.

"There ya go, bud" I smiled at him.

He happily ate it and was ready to go afterwards.

When everyone had woken up and eaten their breakfast, we all took off and flew in the direction of Berk.

A couple of hours had passed before Tuffnut 'blessed' us all with his thoughts.

"You know Ruff, I really hope that mom received my letter about Chicken" Tuffnut told his sister, whom I felt really bad for, because she had to spend the rest of her life with this guy.

Tuff is my friend and all, but sometimes he's a little, tiring.

"Even if she received your letter, she would never actually go get Chicken!" Ruffnut informed her brother.

"You clearly don't know our dear mother! She knows that Chicken is a part of the family and cannot be left behind!"

"Then why isn't Chicken here?"

Tuffnut was silent for a while, and then he realized that he had left Chicken.

"HICCUP! WE HAVE TO TURN AROUND AND GO GET CHICKEN!" Tuffnut said, freaking out.

I gave him the really? look.

"Tuff, we can already see Berk in the distance, there is no way we're turning around now" I told him.

"But—"

"No but's!" I said, silencing him.

Not long after we flew over the village, clapping and cheering filling our ears.

We landed in front of my house and dismounted our dragons. The second we got off, we were surrounded by fans.

"OH MY THOR! IT'S FISHLEGS!"

"HI SNOTLOUT! I LOVE YOU!"

"TUFFNUT THORSTON! CAN YOU PLEASE MARRY ME?"

"RUFFNUT! CAN YOU SIGN MY FOREHEAD?!"

"PLEASE MARRY US HICCUP!"

And that was some of the things we heard.

I smiled and tried to wave away the crowd as the gang and I entered my house, leaving our poor dragons outside with their fans.

A door opened from the back of the room, and out came my father.

"Hiccup! You're home!" My dad said as he came over and gave me a big hug.

"Hi, dad" I shot him a smile.

"Hi, Stoick" The others said.

"Hello, children!"

There was a couple of seconds of awkward silence.

"Dad, was... was Astrid here?" I looked up at him, hope filling my body.

"Oh yes! She was here yesterday" Dad smiled.

"Did...did she tell you where to send me?" I asked him.

He nodded.

"The cove"

"On Berk?"

"On Berk"

"Really?"

My dad nodded.

I felt like I could jump all the way up to Gothi.

Astrid was here, on Berk, right now, waiting for me!

Waiting for me...

SHE WAS WAITING FOR ME!

"Come on guys, we have to go!"

"Hiccup, wait!" Dad said.

"What is it?"

"Astrid wanted you to come alone" Dad informed me.

I nodded and ran up the stairs.

"What are you doing?" Fishlegs asked.

"It's our anniversary today! I need to get the gift!" I yelled to Fishlegs and the others from upstairs.

We had finished the gift the day before Astrid left, and today I was finally able to give it to her.

I slipped it into my pocket and ran down the stairs and out of the house.

"Bye guys!"

***

Toothless and I landed at the cove, and Astrid was no where to be found.

All the excitement that I had gathered up earlier had seeped out of my body.

I sighed.

And then I heard movement.

Out of the shadows emerged a familiar figure, and I could not believe my own eyes.

"Well hello Hiccup, good to see you again"
