Chapter 17: Shield's Revelation

Disclaimer: I do not own Fire Emblem: Three Houses or its characters, I only own Blythe, Celine, and the changes in the plot that I make in the war phase.

In this chapter, one question will finally be answered. You have to read to find out!

With that aside....

Enjoy!

Last Time:

"An astute observation. Bergamot is a refined taste, after all." Edelgard picked up the Enbarr cake and took a bite. She hummed in delight while eating the rest of the cake. "Enbarr cakes are normally sweeter than this one. The cakes back home are too sweet for my liking, but these are perfect!"

"Thank my sister. She's the one who made them."

"Hmm... I will have to thank Blythe later."

"One more thing, Edelgard..." Byleth trailed off. Edelgard looked up to see what the teal-haired professor had to say. "Check underneath your chair."

Edelgard put her arm underneath the chair she was sitting in, hitting a basket along the way. She pulled the basket from under her chair, placing it on her lap.

"Professor... Are these for me?"

Inside of the basket was a red carnation and an Armored Bear Stuffy. Edelgard picked them up with care and delicacy. After seeing Byleth's nod, Edelgard put the presents down with a smile.

"Thank you, my teacher. I'll never forget this moment we spent together."

23rd of the Garland Moon, Garreg Mach Monastery, Library (Morning), Imperial Year 1180

While it was an day for lessons in Garreg Mach Monastery, Byleth scheduled his individual sessions later in the school day compared to the other professors. The teal-haired Eisner did that so his students have a chance to gather their thoughts before the session, along with encouraging training sessions between members of the Blue Lions and students from other classes during the flexible individual sessions.

Celine elected to split her morning before class into two even sessions. The first session was a spar with Caspar, as both of them elected to move the match up into the morning. After the sparring session, Celine would meet with Blythe inside the library to try and find any new details on the blue-haired young woman's past.

Blythe, currently inside of the library, organized all of the notes she had made in the past month regarding the topic. She also asked Tomas for any books regarding the aftermath of Tragedy of Duscur, but the librarian gave Blythe a book on all of the missing or deceased individuals caused by Duscur.

It wasn't what she asked for... but Blythe would not let a potential lead go to waste.

After the last time her and Celine met, Blythe had formulated a few potential theories. However, she wasn't sure on the legitimacy of any scenarios she created. Blythe thought it was better to discuss theories with another person, so she would wait until Celine arrived before revealing her theories.

"Father told me of a possible scenario regarding Celine, and I can't help but think he's right. Maybe the friend that went with Dimitri to Duscur is still alive? The similarities are uncanny..."

Blythe sighed, scratching the top of her head with one of her fingers. "This is perplexing. Situations like this are hard to come by, especially with Celine's amnesia. Whatever happened before Byleth, Father, and I found her must have been horrible to give Celine amnesia about her past."

'Well, there's nothing Celine and I can do except for speculating. When we get a good lead, though, then we can finally figure out Celine's identity. That would give her some much-needed closure about the topic bugging her for four consecutive years.'

Blythe wanted to help Celine figure out her true family. Even though the blue-haired swordsman treated the Eisners like her adoptive family, all of the Eisners can see she wants to reconnect with her biological family. They would help her for as long as they could.

Pulling a chair out for Celine along the way, Blythe went over to where her notes were. She pulled out her own chair, sitting in it. Blythe knew Celine should be done with her sparring session with Caspar in a few minutes, which meant that the blue-haired swordsman would be on her way momentarily.

True to her word, Blythe heard footsteps running towards the library a few minutes later. She looked to see Celine, now in her Officer's Academy uniform, walking into the library. Celine sat down in the empty chair at Blythe's table, putting her hair up into her normal ponytail.

"Sorry if I kept you waiting, Blythe." Celine told her best friend. Blythe shook her head in response, smiling at Celine. "You didn't keep me waiting. In fact, I just finished setting up. Did you and Caspar have to cut the session short?"

"Not by a lot, but we did. He forgot the Black Eagles started class today earlier than the Blue Lions."

Blythe nodded her head, crossing her right leg over her left. "We normally start class at the same time, but Byleth moved it to later. I think Father needed him for something in the early morning."

"That makes sense." Celine responded. Her eyes gazed over all of the notes and books on the table, making note of their presence. "You did some research in between our impromptu meeting a few weeks ago. I've done some, but not nearly as much as you have."

"I wanted to help you as much as I could. Because of that, I needed to do extra research." Blythe tucked a piece of turquoise hair behind her ear. She pulled a book on the table in between her and Celine. "The librarian gave me this book when I asked about books detailing the aftermath of Duscur. I haven't taken a look at it yet, since I wanted to do it together. Based on the cover, it's a compendium of all of the people either missing or deceased as a direct result of Duscur."

"This could be either a big lead or a bust..."

"That's what I thought as well."

Celine reached over to the book and opened it. After flipping through the first few pages, both females saw there was a table of contents inside of the book.

"We need the nobles missing as a result of Duscur, right?" Celine asked, with Blythe nodding her head in response. "We do. Father says you might be one of the Faerghus nobles who went with Dimitri and King Lambert to Duscur."

"You know... that's what all of my research led me to conclude." Celine said, putting her hand on her chin with a quirked eyebrow. "Even a few fellow classmates, including Caspar a few minutes ago, have noted how similar I look to Felix."

"Felix? I admit, I do see the resemblance myself." Blythe fixed her high ponytail, since it was falling down. She then flipped to the section of the book they needed. "Even so, Felix hasn't mentioned that he had a sister. He only mentioned an older brother."

"True, but even the mentions of Felix's brother are few and far between. His family is a sore spot for him, especially for people he barely knows."

Blythe only nodded in reply, silently taking in the information. Her focus, however, was on a certain section of the book. Celine followed her friend's gaze to a part of the book.

Like most of the pages before it, the directory had a list of names spreading all throughout the page. However, one of the names on the page was scratched out.

"Is that ink?" Celine remarked, looking at the book with narrowed eyes.

"I think it is..." Blythe traced her finger along the scratched out name. She brought it up to her chest, noting the glob of red ink on her finger. "This is ink, possibly from a quill pen. It's recent, too. The ink's still wet."

Blythe turned to Celine, closing the book. "Someone doesn't want us to find out the origins of your past. The librarian gave this to me. So, the question is... who gave this book to Tomas?"

"I don't know, and I honestly don't care. I'm going to find out my past. I've gone long enough not knowing who my family is. No matter what I have to go through, I will find out my past before we leave this monastery after graduation... even if it's only fragments of the past."

24th of the Garland Moon, Garreg Mach Monastery, Training Ground, (Morning), Imperial Year 1180

As one of the first people to wake up in the morning, Felix was among the first students and faculty to arrive in the dining hall. He got a small breakfast that he could eat in a short amount of time.

Felix, in his mind, had more important things to do in the morning. Breakfast was only there to tide him over until lunch. He had to keep improving his swordsmanship by the day.

Some said his routine of training every day was unhealthy. Felix didn't care for their words. If there was anything the hierarchy of Faerghus taught the Fraldarius heir, it taught him that not practicing combat skills daily resulted in them being sloppy.

In combat, sloppy skills meant a quick trip into the grave. Even if you had good combat skills, someone could still end up in the ground. Duscur showed that to Felix the hard way: he lost his brother to the Tragedy.

Felix would train until he surpassed Glenn's skills. He didn't care how long it took until then... the blue-haired swordsman would surpass his older brother.

Arriving at the training ground, Felix nodded at the training ground monitor as the swordsman passed by. Felix grabbed a training sword from the bin of training weapons and tested the durability and pliability of the sword. Satisfied, he walked over to a training dummy and started swinging.

Jeritza, the combat professor, was in the training ground overseeing the early training session. Most of the students trained in pairs, but some elected to train by themselves. With Felix, he rarely had someone to spar against, so Jeritza noticed the male training solo most of the time.

When the combat professor heard the door open, he looked over to see the new arrival. He was too far away to see who it was, but Jeritza noticed the new individual pick up two iron swords. Once they walked forward a few inches, however, Jeritza saw who it was.

The Guardian Angel... This would be interesting.

Blythe walked over to Felix, who was still swinging his training sword against the training dummy. He had the sparring gear on, so it seemed like Felix was just waiting for someone to spar with him.

Luckily for Felix, Blythe was also looking for someone to spar with.

"Looks like I'm not the only one who likes to spar on training ground days." Blythe remarked as she came towards Felix. The blue-haired Fraldarius stopped swinging his sword and looked towards his classmate.

"Blythe. Do you need something?"

The female Eisner held one of the iron swords up. She smirked at Felix, her eyes and posture exuding confidence. "How about a spar?"

Felix tossed the training sword in his hand over to where the training dummy was. He grabbed the iron sword Blythe held out to him, the cold and metallic metal of the sword contrasting with his higher body temperature. When Blythe did not say a word after Felix grabbed the sword hilt, he rose an eyebrow in confusion. "No underlying stipulations? I get a lot of those already."

"Nope. No caveats involved." Blythe shook her head, stepping a few inches away from Felix. "Just a good, old-fashioned spar before class."

"Just how I like it." Felix brought his sword up, ready for combat. "I won't be holding back."

Blythe brought her sword up as well, getting into her signature combat stance. "Neither will I."

Both Blythe and Felix kicked off of the ground, sprinting forward. They rocketed towards each other with momentum.

Their momentum resulted in a sword block, both of their swords making a cross. The clang of clashing metal rang throughout the training ground, causing all of the people present to whip their heads to where Felix and Blythe were sparring. Everyone except for Jeritza were shocked at what the two Blue Lions were doing.

"They're sparring with weapons that aren't training ones!?"

"Only the elite students from each house use iron weapons this early! They must be good."

"Of course they are! It's 'The Guardian Angel' and the heir to the Fraldarius territory."

Tuning out the words of the other people in the training ground, Blythe and Felix continued their spar throughout the conversation. Blythe spun away from Felix, preventing the two from engaging into another sword lock. However, since both of them were very swift in combat, they used their mobility to maneuver around each other.

One of them would have to catch the other one off guard in order to end the sparring session.

Blythe feigned to the left, rushing towards Felix. When Felix rose his sword to block, she switched the hand her sword was in.

'She's ambidextrous!?'

Blythe swung her foot out, spinning on one foot. She kicked Felix's legs from underneath him, his sword flying out of his hand. He landed on the ground with a grunt.

"Looks like I win this one." Blythe said, placing her sword on the ground. She walked over to Felix and extended her hand out for him to grab. Once the blue-haired male did so, she pulled him to his feet.

Felix grunted as he let go of Blythe's hand. "You just surprised me. It won't happen again."

Blythe picked up her sword as her and Felix resumed their combat stances for another round. "We'll see about that."

25th of the Garland Moon, Garreg Mach Monastery, Reception Hall, (Afternoon), Imperial Year 1180

In the reception hall, the people inside of the area saw a peculiar sight.

They saw an individual carrying a tower of books in their arms. Based on the figure, some of them guessed it was a female, but they weren't sure. The books blocked the young woman from view, so the person carrying the books was walking without being able to see where she was going. Her situation was akin to blindness, but it was a whole other circumstance entirely.

Since the young woman was wearing a uniform of the Officer's Academy, they could not identify who the individual was. However, they could see silver cuffs at the end of the long-sleeved shirt, along with a few strands of turquoise hair.

Hanneman, walking through the reception hall to get to another part of the monastery, saw the female and the tower of books. "Do I need to send one of my students to assist you, Miss Eisner?"

"I think I'll be fine, Professor Hanneman. Thank you for the offer, though!" Blythe responded to Hanneman, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye. She smiled at what she was doing. "I just need to get these book to another part of the monastery."

"Very well. Safe travels!"

Hanneman then left the vicinity, traversing to his office on the second floor. Blythe had to go to the second floor as well, but it was to a different part.

Blythe lightly sighed, peeking around the stack of books she was holding. Hopefully someone would not bump into her... That would cause a huge mess in the walkway.

Unluckily for the turquoise-haired Eisner, her hopes would not be answered. In fact, Blythe's hopes were about to be dashed.

Someone ran beside Blythe, the wind blowing her and the books off balance. She struggled to keep them in a neat stack, but she never knew someone was about to run into her until it was too late.

"Watch out!"

Blythe collided with a human figure. The books flew up into the air, along with both humans falling onto the ground. The second figure looked up as the books began to fall, their short, blond hair tickling their face.

The second figure, a certain male, was shocked at what just happened. "Blythe! Are you alright!? I am SO sorry!"

"I'm fine, Dimitri." Blythe responded, catching a book that was about to fall in her lap. "Sorry I bumped into you. I couldn't see where I was going."

Dimitri shook his head lightly. "You tried your best to keep the books from falling. Seteth pulled the two perpetrators of this incident aside."

"Two? Did one push you into me?" Blythe asked, beginning to pick up books. Dimitri did so as well while he responded with a nod. "I would have gone around if not for the second one pushing me into you."

"Oh." Blythe trailed off. She finished picking up the last book and stood up, both her and Dimitri having a stack of books. She looked towards the blond-haired prince beside her with a pleading glance. "While you're here, do you think you can help me take these books to the library? I don't want what just happened to occur again."

"Certainly." Dimitri followed behind Blythe as she led the way to the library.

The two individuals traversed through the vast reception hall, talking along the way. They left the vast room, coming to a split in the walkways. In front of the two was the large, cobblestone bridge which lead to the cathedral, while the classrooms and stables were to the left and right respectively.

As Blythe and Dimitri went up the stairs nearby, Dimitri had a question pop into his mind. "Blythe, if you don't mind me asking, have you always been helpful to others like you are now? Or was it instilled into you by Jeralt?"

"I don't mind the question." Blythe shook her head, softly smiling. "I've always been kind and generous towards others. It's how I've wanted to be remembered, and it's how I was raised. When I joined my father's mercenary band, that sense of camaraderie just grew into what it is today. Though, if I had to say who started that belief in me, it would have been..."

"Blythe?"

She sighed as the two came into the library and dropped off the books with the library staff. "Maybe another time, Dimitri. It's still a sore subject for me, especially with new people. I trust you, but it's still too soon."

"...I understand."

He watched as Blythe walked away from the library, her hand clasped around a locket. Dimitri could faintly spot a few tears rolling down her face.

Dimitri sighed, closing his eyes.

"I overstepped, didn't I?"

26th of the Garland Moon, Garreg Mach Monastery, Training Ground, (Evening), Imperial Year 1180

"Come on! Activate already!"

Celine aggressively swung the training sword in her hand, striking the training dummy. The wooden surface of the sword clashed with the thick leather of the mannequin. Celine gave off small growls of frustration after every swing. Whatever Celine was trying to do, it would not obey her command.

"You appeared once before! Why won't you appear again!?" The blue-haired swordsman yelled into the air.

After a few more seconds, Celine had enough. She threw the training sword aside, the wood slightly splintering on impact with the wall. "Screw it."

Celine walked over to the storage area of the training ground, grabbing another mannequin. Unlike the other one, this training dummy had on thick, leather armor. The training dummy used to practice magic spells needed extra protection, after all. Spells could be volatile without any warning, causing catastrophic damage without the proper armor and equipment.

She placed down the mannequin. Once she was an acceptable distance away from it, Celine's body faintly hummed from the latent magic power flowing inside. Lightning sprouted over her hands, the signature crackling sounds of thunder magic following shortly afterwards.

Celine hurled bolts of lightning towards the mannequin. The bolts collided with the leather surface of the armor, making small burn circles at the impact points. She let her frustration channel and amplify her magic, making it much more powerful than it would be otherwise.

She sensed a minuscule magic signature from behind her. Celine fired at it while turning around. Once she saw who it was, she widened her eyes and quickly redirected the lightning to the nearby wall.

"If I wanted to get struck by lightning, I would've just went outside during a storm." Felix glowered at Celine, narrowing his eyes dangerously. "Watch where you're aiming that."

"As a warrior yourself, you should know better than to come in without announcing your presence." Celine fired back with a glare. She extinguished the lighting floating over her hands.

Felix crossed his arms and jerked his face to the side, frowning. "Tch. What do you know about being a warrior? Almost no one has heard of the 'Lunar Swordsman' before two years ago."

Celine whirled around, fists clenched and face taut. "Even with my amnesia, I know as much about being a warrior as you and the rest of the Lions! My time in Jeralt's mercenary company only supplements that."

"I find that hard to believe." Felix scoffed, walking over to the bin of weapons. He grabbed two, sliding one sword to Celine with his foot.

"If you don't believe me, then why don't I prove it?" Celine picked up the sword, getting into a combat stance. Felix got into his own combat stance. However, Felix noted something very peculiar.

Their combat stances were the exact same...

...Not similar...

...The exact same.

'What!? No one has matched my exact stance before! Ingrid, Sylvain, and the Boar have all been close, but never exactly. Just who is she...?'

Both of them kicked off with the same foot. They used the same fundamental moves, even if they were from different fighting backgrounds.

In the confines of his mind, Felix wondered if he was fighting a mirror. No one in the past four years has known all of his moves and counteracted them. The last person to do it was...

...He needed to test something.

Felix and Celine stopped their sword lock. Catching Celine off guard, Felix grabbed Celine's wrist and pulled her forward. He used the momentum to throw her off balance.

While he was doing the move, Celine pushed a pressure point in Felix's wrist. His hand spased, releasing Celine from Felix's grip. Celine was about to charge forward, but Felix shocked her by saying, "Truce. You've proved your skill."

Her feet slid across the ground as she stopped. Celine dropped the sword into Felix's awaiting hand with a curious glance. "What do you mean? We barely started."

"Just let me know when you want to spar again." Felix responded, deflecting the question. He left Celine behind in the training ground after he put the swords away.

While he walked through the monastery, his thoughts ran amok.

Celine didn't just have Felix's exact same sword stance, she knew the exact same moves as well...

...She even knew how to counteract the wrist grab Glenn taught him.

Blythe didn't know that move, so Jeralt didn't teach it to Celine.

How did he not realize it sooner?

"Gods... how could I have been so oblivious?" Felix muttered, slamming the door to his room once he was inside. "The name and hair could have been conditional, but that just proved it."

Felix pulled out a small hairclip from a secure place in his room. "Glenn only taught that wrist move to Celine and I. No one else in Faerghus knows it."

He placed the hairclip back in the drawer, closing it. Felix walked out of his room, closing the door behind him.

"It was so obvious. Blythe found Celine four years ago with amnesia, right after Duscur. We lost Glenn and Celine at Duscur, but now we got her back. My sister's alive... but she doesn't remember a thing."

Felix sighed. The goddess could be so cruel.

-------------------------------------------------

Chapter complete!

Sylvain, Caspar, Jeralt, and now Felix, ended up being right.

Celine is Felix's sister, and the missing heiress to the Fraldarius territory.

To those who are avid fans of FE3H, this twist was probably a little obvious. But, part of the enjoyment in storytelling is letting the readers make theories.

Even if others know who Celine is, she still does not. Her plotline is FAR from over.

Next chapter is the Lonato battle, and after that is the Blue Sea Moon.

Hope to see you in the next chapter!
