DECEIT
Adam knew what was needed of him, in fact it was so painstakingly obvious. Adam didn't want to harm Eva but maybe it was better he did so. If he failed the task, she'd ultimately end up dead anyway.
He envied Jessie, while she claimed they were 'in this together' it was quite clear they were not. Jessie's parents weren't as eager for their daughter to join the death eaters just yet.
When Adam observed Eva now, it was in a different light. She was a Potter and he wondered how he never noticed before.
Her eyes were the same dreamy colour that the daily prophet were always reporting on, not to mention her eye-sight was attrocious which seemed to be a genetic thing in the Potter family.
In fact now that Adam thought about it, her and Harry looked quite alike...
Adam was annoyed that he wasn't the one to figure it out being a secret gossip whore and all but felt relief knowing that she might be okay, now that he thought about it, Adam didn't know if Eva knew who she really was.
One thing was certain, if Peter Pettigrew was involved nothing good would come of it.
[EVA'S POV]
The team were playing awfully at training, Eva had replicated a match scenario and to say they weren't listening to her was an understatement. The Slytherins were seemingly holding a grudge against her.
Which made no sense to Eva, just because she had stood up for so called 'blood traitors'?. Eva was stressed, no she was more than that. Eva was internally panicking.
It might only have been quidditch but if they lost another match she could wave her dream of playing professionally goodbye. She was sat firmly on her broom observing each player, Warrington and Montague seemed to be doing their job, admittedly not doing great though.
"Try to score Montague!" Eva shouted frustratedly, it was like they weren't even trying. The girl received nasty glares from the two chasers, it was the epitome of disrespect.
Derrick and Bole usually were eager to strike bludgers at oncoming traffic but tonight they were passing the leather ball back and forth as if they were playing a game with each other.
Fifteen minutes into the game and Draco still hadn't caught the snitch, Eva was ready to explode into fits of rage. If they didn't care, she'd make them.
"Right everyone to the ground now!" Eva shouted. The boys sighed, clearly able to tell their captain was displeased with them.
"What was that?. Did you all suddenly forget how to play bloody' quidditch?" It was beginning to rain and Eva didn't fancy roaring at the group of incompetent idiots.
"I think we all played quite well, don't you think lads?" Miles Bletchley boasted walking to the front of the group. Eva seethed with rage as the boys began to hype him up.
Eva felt her anger subside slightly noticing the platinum blonde standing close to her side, at least one person was interested in what she had to say.
"Considering you didn't stop any of the goals Bletchley... I wouldn't run your mouth just yet" Eva said beginning to square up to the taller boy. "If any of you dare play like that again, you're off the team with no hesitation".
Muffled whispers and angry sighs wavered around the pitch.
"Anyone have anything relevant to say?" Eva asked, eyeing up the group. She was gripping her broom so tightly, it might of snapped.
"Didn't think so" she added without letting anyone backchat her.
"We can't afford to lose another match, reason one being I want to avoid embarrassment and reason two being if someone comes along to scope out future professional players and you lot play like that, I have absolutely no hope in being scouted" Eva didn't care if that was selfish, she was done being nice to them.
"You, playing professionally? a girl?"
"Is that so hard to believe, Montague?" Eva snarled at the brunette.
"Yes.. as if they'd hire a scrawny little thing like you!" He commented evilly.
"Aww' and you think they'd hire you? an idiot who cant fly straight and has a penis the size of a grape".
That comment luckily left him speechless and quite frankly Eva was done with their shit.
"Right I'm off, you lot aren't worth getting my hair wet for and remember show up, play well or get kicked off the team. Simple as!"
The group of five scattered off not before they mumbled insults such as 'bitch' and 'whore' towards their captain. The misogyny was so prevalent, it was disgusting and made Eva shiver.
Eva bent down to collect her things, it felt like someone had been watching her. Feeling confused she stood up and faced the figure head on.
"Draco?"
"Eva.." he acknowledged awkwardly.
"I was wondering if I could speak to you?"
"Sure, sure but if you're here to shout abuse at me too. I'd rather you leave altogether"
A look of shock graced Draco's face
"Of course not, I would never. Not to you" Eva smiled brightly in relief towards the young boy.
"Walk me back?" Eva asked, that way he could talk to her on the way back to the castle. He nodded his head in reply.
"So what's up?"
"Did you open your birthday present?"
"My birthday present?" Eva mumbled slightly confused.
"Yes, you know the one from me?"
Then Eva remembered he had given her the gift when she visited his house.
"You did open it didn't you?" Draco asked, his voice seemed to strain. Eva scanned his face, it had a strange expression on it, it was almost worry. Eva felt bad, she realised she hadn't even opened it yet but not to hurt his feelings.
She lied..
"Ah yes, yes I did"
Draco visibly relaxed, he was glad he was able to give her some sort warning of what was to come, without anyone listening in on what he had to say.
"good, I'm glad"
"Are you not coming inside?" Draco questioned tilting his head inside the common room. Eva pondered for a moment deciding she wasn't ready to retire to bed just yet.
"Not just yet"
"Be careful, remember what I wrote"
Eva walked down the corridor, trying to comprehend what he meant. 'Remember what I wrote'... he's thirteen Eva, they don't have brain cells yet, she thought to herself or so she thought.
Eva couldn't seem to shake off the anger she felt on the pitch, the team were absolutely infuriating and she hoped they'd win tomorrow because if they didn't Eva would have no problem kicking them all off the team.
In a way being all alone was scary, it allowed her insecurities to pick away at her. Am I a good captain? Am I too ambitious? Will I ever be good enough?. Her questions were only filled with silence and it was deafening.
Eva had no idea where she was going, Eva let her body take her wherever, whilst she battled with herself on the inside, her feet seemed to be taking her to unknown territory.
The Gryffindor common room?
All Eva could do was stare at the door in absolute bewilderment, why was she here?. Eva hadn't even realised she was going this way but she was certain there must of been a reason.
When the door flew open, Eva wanted to combust. If anyone saw her there, it wouldn't be good for her reputation and god knows that was important to her. Eva hated to admit it but she truly cared deep down about how people felt about her.
Eva wanted so desperately to be happy and not to distance herself from those she was beginning to get attached to.
[FRED'S POV]
"That's fucking disgusting, I don't think I can put up with you two anymore" Fred exclaimed loudly erupting with laughter as his twin and best friend farted into each other's faces.
All to see whose smelled worse...
"You love us!" Lee stated confidently. Fred stared at his best friend with fake anger.
"Mmm.. sure"
"Jesus' that was a ripper" Lee screamed like a child, running behind the plush couch attempting to take cover from George's huge release of gas. Fred rolled his eyes in reply, no way was he staying.
He needed to take a walk...
Not bothering to say goodbye to the children, he obnoxiously threw open the common room door. Seeing Eva Smith was definitely not on his agenda tonight but it was a nice surprise.
He smirked seeing how flabbergasted the brunette was, she could hardly take her eyes off the floor.
"And what I dare say are you doing here?" Fred asked stepping outside and closing the door behind him. The girl looked at a loss for words, which was a rare thing for Eva Smith.
He was supposed to be angry at her, he tried to be for a while but there was just something about her that made him instantly smile.
"I-I I'm not supposed to be-
-"here to see me? I understand, I'd want to see me too" Fred saw her visibly tense, for some reason he loved to wind her up. It was like he wanted her to be purposely mean to him.
"No!" Eva scoffed finally facing the cocky ginger. "I was just on a walk, it happened to take me here. It's not illegal Weasley".
Fred smirked teasingly at the girl which made for a good call because the brunette seemed to be getting angrier by the second.
"Well you seem pissed off!" Fred suggested leaning confidently against the wall. He scanned her features, Fred wasn't an idiot, he knew when a woman was upset.
"Really?" Eva scowled up at him, he was actually quite tall compared to her, "how did you know?".
"Your face"
"My face?" She questioned confused, "why are you looking at my face?".
"I'm always looking at it" Fred mumbled quietly, thankfully Eva didn't seem to hear.
"I think I'm gonna go, this is all too weird!" She exclaimed, feeling especially embarrassed in front of her so called enemy. Fred frowned, he definitely didn't want her to leave.
"What if we go somewhere?" Fred suggested taking a step forward to look directly in her eyes. Her reaction was laughable, one of utmost disgust.
"Go somewhere? with you?, you wish Weasley"
"Oh I do wish for it, very often if you must know!" He was grinning so much, the sides of his mouth began to ache. Eva rolled her eyes and steadily began to pace away from the common room door.
"Fuck" he whispered, Fred began to jog after her but the girl seemed adamant to leave. He clutched her shoulder and span her around.
"Stop harassing me!" She squeaked.
"Please? just come with me and if you aren't having any fun, Then you can leave" he remembered to jutt his lips in attempt to look cute. She seemed to be considering his suggestion.
"Fine-
"Yay!"
"But if there's any funny business, I'll fucking kick your ass. Are we clear?" She asked the boy sternly.
"Crystal" he answered grinning widely. Then Fred realised he had nowhere to take her, he had only told her that so she would come along and now he was totally screwed.
The pair strutted the hogwart's grounds together, a rush of adrenaline running through Fred's body. There was something about being outside past curfew with a pretty girl that made him feel invincible.
Although he still hadn't come to terms with his feelings, Fred was sure he liked Eva. She kept him on his toes and not to mention they had already shared a few kisses. Even if he had caught her off guard with them.
[EVA'S POV]
They didn't speak at all, Eva was beginning to regret saying yes to him but it was better than being alone in her dorm room. He wasn't attempting to make a move on her either, it was quite refreshing.
Both stared at the sky in awe, the full moon being the only source of light for the two.
"Where are we going?" She questioned softly.
"Erm... you'll see" he responded shortly, Eva frowned at his bluntness but could she blame him? Eva treated him like shit but it wasn't like the two were friends, in fact they were nothing as far as Eva was aware.
It was silent for the most part, besides the stomping of their feet in sync. The surroundings became less and less familiar until eventually the pair began speed walking past Hagrid's hut.
Eva looked at the pumpkin patch, the same bird-like creature layed tied against a pole. Eva had seen it that time she attended the Ravenclaw match aswell and couldn't help but feel sorry for it.
"He's going to be killed you know?"
Eva rubbed her eyes and turned her attention back to Fred who seemed to speaking to her.
"What? him?" She asked pointing at the bird.
"He attacked Malfoy and like the daddy's boy he is, told his father, now the ministry are executing him".
"Draco?, surely he wouldn't do that?"
"Are you sure you know the boy at all?" He questioned with big eyes, Draco Malfoy was one of the most vile people he knew.
"Clearly not" she mumbled placing her cold hands inside the pockets of her quidditch jersey. Fred took notice of this, maybe that was why she seemed to be so angry.
"Rough quidditch practice?"
"Something like that" she muttered.
"What happened?"
"Why do you honestly care Fre- Weasley?"
"Just interested I guess"
"They're a bunch of misogynistic assholes if you must know, no offence to the male population".
"I bet you wouldn't take shit of off them" Fred stated as if he knew she was stronger that. Eva smiled slightly upon hearing his opinion.
The forbidden forest?
"I've never been here before, isn't it dangerous"
"Yes but that's the fun part, come on!"
Hesitantly Eva followed after the boy, it was sort of nice being with someone who smiled so often.
"Fred?" She questioned smally.
"Yes?"
"Why are you so nice to me?"
"Why am I nice to you?" He asked perplexed. "Everyone deserves kindness Eva, even if you think you don't. You do!".
"I don't" she muttered sadly, Fred stopped walking abruptly and grabbed her by the shoulders.
"You're worthy of respect and you're most definitely worthy of my kindness, don't think so lowly about yourself" he growled defensively, so much so it shocked Eva.
"But I-I played with you, your feelings" Eva told the boy who was sifting through a pile of bushes. "You should hate me, everyone should"
"Well I couldn't hate you Eva Smith, not even if I tried to" he stated plainly, Eva's breath caught in her chest once she realised he had been looking at something.
Eva planted herself beside him. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen, a pack of unicorns. She stared in complete awe, Eva had never seen one of them up close before.
To say it wasn't a childhood dream of hers, like any small child to see one would have been a lie. Eva realised right there and then, she felt a whole lot better. Jessie wasn't here, Harry wasn't here, hell Adam wasn't either to comfort her.
But Fred Weasley was...
