Chapter 9: It just got worse

Davenport's POV

I paced throughout the lab. Chase had been gone for almost a day, and Bree is being held as ransom. It made me sick thinking about what they've both been going through, and then there's me the dad that's done absolutely nothing. Adam stared blankly at me, waiting for me to find the solutions to the world's problems in five seconds.

Don't say it.

"We have to do something,"

And, he said it.

I sighed and squeezed the bridge of my nose trying not to snap.

"You don't think I know that already?! I'm trying!" Adam sighed and rolled his eyes. They were starting to get red with anger. He slammed his fist on the cyber desk before responding.

"Well try harder!" I gritted my teeth as he walked out of the lab and into the elevator. Once it closed I took in a careful breath. Tasha emerged out of the elevator in sync with the time I exhaled.

"Are you okay honey?" she said as she put her hand on my shoulder. I got up quickly and began organizing things that were out of place on Leo's mission specialist desk, trying to gain some sort of comfort.

"Yeah I'm fine why?" I said preoccupied as I crammed as many pens as I could into the cup on his desk. Tasha sighed and grabbed the pens out of my hands and set them down bringing my attention to her.

"Well Adam came out of the elevator looking pretty upset, and he just stormed off to his room..." I sighed and sat down.

"I'm glad he walked away when he did, things were already going towards the wrong direction." Tasha looked at me with a confused expression before grabbing onto my hand.

"What do you mean by that?" I looked down trying not to get too emotional.

"Things are already turning for the worst. With Bree gone, and Chase after her, Chase confessing he's in love with her. If our current group begins to turn on each other and lash out it'll make matters worse, if that's even possible."

She wrapped me into a hug and rubbed my back.

"Don't worry Donald, Everything's going to be okay. You just need some outside help and some time to think and..." I pushed her away, cutting her off.

"Tasha I don't have time, I have two missing children. And I don't think posting a missing persons flyer on the Walmart bulletin board is going to help this situation!" I scoffed not shifting my gaze off of her. It took me a moment to really comprehend what I had just said to her. She got up slowly, saying nothing.

"Tasha," I got up trying to catch up with her.

"Tasha wait!" I grabbed her hand trying to coax her back to me, but she slapped my hand away.

"What Donald?! What do you want me to wait for? For you to tell me that I can't help, because I'm too much of an air head to understand the complexity of the situation? That I'm not involved enough to ever understand?"

"No, Tasha, that's not what I meant..."

"Really Donald? Because it seems like all I'm ever good for now is just cooking and cleaning and being the perfect little housewife, while my husband seems to be more involved in our children's lives than I am! I know that I don't know very much about any of this. But that doesn't mean that you have the permission to act this way to me! Okay? I thought you said it yourself that if we turn on each other, then it will just make things worse." She looked at me, waiting for me to say something. But I couldn't, she left me speechless.

"You're right, Tasha, I don't know what to say. I'm so sorry." She finally let me grab her hand. She nodded at me as she tried to hold back tears. She sighed before she looked up at me.

"It's alright, and you're right. We don't have any time to spare, I say we go upstairs and mend things with Adam and get Leo, and then we can all think of a solution together. Four heads are better than one." I put my hand on her cheek, and smiled at her.

"This is why I love you." She laughed lightly and led me to the stairs. As we reached the kitchen she let go of my hand. We were both looking at the same thing. The front door was wide open.

"You don't think..." I looked at her clenching my jaw. I ran over to the door to find a note taped to it. I ripped it off and closed the door.

Mr. Davenport,
If you're reading this, then you've probably came to the conclusion that I'm gone. I thought I would take matters into my own hands and save Chase and Bree. Being the oldest bionic sibling in the family, it's been my duty to protect them since the start. I'm sorry.
-Adam

P.S.
Leo wrote this note and is forcing me to take him with me. Sorry Tasha, looks like Davenport is going to have to get you that puppy. Oh! and we took your helicopter... hope you don't mind!

"Tasha," Her eyes got wide as tears slipped down her face.

"What?" I held the note up.

"It just got worse."
