Details:             Like his father and grandfather, Andy was a police inspector with the San Francisco Police Department, something that had made his family very proud. He was a longtime childhood friend of the Halliwell sisters, having grown up together since Andy lived close by. 

As children, Andy often played with  Prue and Piper, and on one occasion Penny came downstairs to find Andy frozen, no doubt by Piper. She laughed it off and used her power to unfreeze him, erasing his memory of the event in the process. She asked him where the girls were and he then informed her that they had left with the "strange ladies". Penny would later discover these women were her future granddaughters. 

As a teenager Andy and Prue  began dating and soon fell in love, even missing their own prom so they could be alone together. Unfortunately their romance was cut short when Andy moved to Portland and eventually he and Prue lost touch entirely. While in Portland Andy joined the force and became a police officer, quickly moving up the ranks. 

It was during this time that he would meet and later marry his ex-wife, Susan. They divorced some time before he moved back to San Francisco, and remained friends. 

Upon returning to the city, Andy ran into Prue at the hospital and they reconnected. He came by one morning to ask her out to dinner, and it was here where he first noticed the cat he'd initially seen at a crime scene he'd been investigating, one where the killer had miraculously vanished. This began a long list of suspicions that Andy would harbour about the Halliwells. 

He and Prue began dating again, and it quickly turned sexual before they decided to take things slow. 

However, the more they tried to have a normal relationship, the more the forces of the supernatural conspired to ruin it, or so it would appear. After too many canceled dates and false-starts, Andy had had enough and broke up with Prue. 

Throughout the season Andy investigated crimes that held a strong supernatural aspect, and were always somehow connected to Prue herself or involved her in some way. This forced their relationship to experience several changes, mainly from Andy's perspective. Initially he had tried to coerce Prue to fill him in on her secret, but once the evidence against her became too compelling he was just about ready to arrest her had he the evidence. 

When Andy finally learned the truth he wasn't all that surprised, having suspecting that witchcraft might be involved and even added that element to a file he'd started on the Halliwells. 

Andy also discovered that Prue had once cast a Truth Spell on him and after revealing her secret she only gave him a couple of minutes to react. The deeper into the supernatural Andy delved, the more it made him realise that he wanted to have an ordinary mortal personal life. After already dealing with the worst of mortal society as a police inspector, Andy wanted to be able to come home to something mundane and "normal". 

He also knew that he would never be able to have this with Prue. 

Andy was a sincere friend to the sisters, both before and after their secret was revealed. He was like a surrogate brother who looked out for them, especially Prue, even after they stopped dating. 

What was truly impressive about Andy Trudeau was that upon learning Prue's secret, he immediately understood the gravity of the work she did, he respected it, having seen how many lives she and her sisters had saved with his own eyes. Even though he was not a fan of the supernatural, he understood the Charmed Ones' role in protecting the innocent, almost like an extension of his own role as an officer of the law.  

Andy never betrayed their secret to anyone, not even to his loyal partner of many years, Inspector Darryl Morris. Understandably, this caused some friction between them. Luckily they had enough trust earned between them to ride it out. 

When Andy was investigated by Internal Affairs he chose to surrender his badge rather than rat the sisters out, which did not please Inspector Rodriguez, the demon posing as IA. Andy died by Rodriguez's hand whilst trying to save the sisters. He died doing what he did best. 

Though Prue was devastated by his death, she took comfort in the sacrifice he made for the greater good, and would forevermore carry him in her heart.
