Second Chance (Epilogue 02)
Summer had started. The weather is stiff. The atmosphere is hot. It's the middle of the night but Cherry's house is still as bright as ever. She can't get over her meeting Lily after 4 years. She's lying on the bed still thinking about the moment when Lily walked past her. Her red hair swaying as she moved her hips with the rhythm of her legs walking, not noticing the familiar figure sitting in the waiting room.
Since Lily left, Cherry had always felt like there was an empty hole in her heart, causing her to not get in a relationship or open her heart to anyone even though it'd already been 4 years. Thinking about how Lily was screaming the day she broke up with her still sended waves of pain down her spine.
And as her thoughts went on and on, the night passed in the blink of an eye, leaving Cherry looking terrible after not sleeping the whole night. Cherry again tried to go to sleep but she couldn't anymore cause of the light so she decided to go get a coffee.
After their departure, Cherry hadn't been able to sleep well. She spent her nights alone thinking about this and that which kept causing problems in her office so she quit her last job. She is good at and passionate about what she's doing to which even her last boss agreed.
After she sat there, drinking her coffee and scrolling through Facebook, she found Lily's account and followed her account.
In a few days, she got informed that she got the job. She now had a chance to try and win Lily over. She knew there was still a chance of them getting back together so she checked all the company rules to see if there was any rule forbidding employees to date and to her surprise, there was none.
Before she could get the time to think about how to talk to Lily about everything that happened, her first day of work already started. She got ready and left for her office. She met the HR halfway and introduced herself to the office, staring at Lily in her cute bun the whole time. Lily was as always talkative and friendly but her expression changed once she noticed Cherry come through the crowd.
Luckily, Cherry's table was right next to Lily and they both pretended not to know each other at first. "Hi, I'm Cherry." Cherry sat at the table and brought her hand forward for a handshake.
"I'm Lily," Lily said, not even looking away from her screen and ignored the hand. By that gesture, Cherry knew that she had to step up her game to win back her heart. The boss stepped in, assigned Cherry some work and went back to his office room.
They all started working, the room was filled with silence until Lily quickly finished her assignments and spoke up, "Hey guys, do you think we should go on a dinner today? My treat." But before she heard the answers she got up to print her work to the printing machine. Cherry followed after her but Lily still ignored her. It was gonna take a while for them to make up.
Once she came back, everyone answered yes which gave another chance to Cherry for making up with her and explaining herself. She knew that it'd not be easy for her to forgive her like that as it definitely did hurt her very much. But she also knew that Lily was a person who understood her the best and she would understand if she told her the truth.
After their office time finished, they were good to go and went on a dinner party. At the party, everything was fine except Lily was talking to everybody else but Cherry even though Cherry was following her everywhere she was going. In the middle of the dinner, Lily went up to go to the bathroom and Cherry did the same in a few seconds, the workers also found it strange and confusing.
In a minute, they met in front of the bathroom stalls where Cherry blocked Lily's path to talk to her. "Lily, please talk to me. Don't ignore me like that." Cherry came forward. Locking her eyes into Lily's.
"Why are you blocking my way?" Lily asked in a calm voice, so calm that it felt like it was someone else's voice, not Lily's, who was screaming and laughing with the workers just a second ago.
Lily tried to push her away but her strength had gotten lower than before, probably cause of the emotional burden. Lily looked different, yet the same. She lost a lot of weight but her pretty brown eyes were still yearning for real love. Her wavy red hair was still shining as always.
"Lily, please. I can explain everything I did," Cherry replied, her voice shaky. "Please..." She was almost about to cry.
"You can? After freaking 4 years? Do you have any Idea how hard it was for me to spend each day of these 4 years? You're here to explain after I finally moved on? After I can finally sleep peacefully without having flashbacks of that night in my dreams? Please, Phi. Get out of my way," Lily shouted.
Her words stabbed into Cherry's heart like a throne. It hurt her to know that Lily had moved on while she still couldn't even though she expected it. After all, she's the victim and Cherry is the culprit. The victim can usually move on but the culprit never moves on from the guilt of hurting the victim.
"Lily..." Cherry's voice got weak. Lily put her strength onto Cherry's body and finally pushed her away, getting out of the bathroom.
Cherry knew she was hurt as much as Lily or probably even more. But this pushed a linger of excitement inside Cherry as well. The thought of having to win her over was something Cherry had never done before. Even when they were in a relationship and got into little arguments, Lily had always been the one to apologise. Cherry was willing to do anything to get her back to her life and she will.
To Be Continued.....
