Chapter 6. Solving the Problems.
Lily walked into the dorm with a face down and so many mixed emotions: shy, embarrassed, shocked, and confused. Jenny, who was waiting for Lily's arrival, looked up at her.
"What's wrong? Did you solve the problems?" Jenny asked in a worried tone.
"Nothing. It's just..." She immediately got cut before she could finish the sentence.
"Nothing what? What do you mean by nothing? Did anything happen?" Jenny was worried and seemed to be in a hurry or probably just curious.
"So... Firstly, I am trying to solve the first problem." Lily had her head down and was talking in a low voice.
"Did you talk to Phi Cherry?" Jenny immediately asked.
"Yes... No??" Lily hesitated.
"Did you talk to her or not?" Jenny's getting impatient.
"She comforted me about something. I don't know if that'd be considered talking to her." Lily seemed confused.
"So, what are you planning to do?" Jenny immediately got more interested and asked.
"I don't know; that's why I am here." Lily said as she was still confused.
"Okay... Have you gotten any clearer about your feelings?" Interesting question!
"Umm... No??" Lily asked confusedly.
Why were you asking her? You're supposed to answer Lily!! Not ask her back. This girl, I swear!
"Then... Continue. Now, let's move on to the next matter. What about the second problem?" Jenny replied with a low voice.
What do you mean by continue?
"So... I did ask those people about her identity. And they told me she's known at the university as..." Lily went silent.
"As what?" Jenny shouted for her to drop the building in the tension.
"Mafia's daughter!" Lily shouted back.
"MAFIA'S DAUGHTER??? Is that true?" Jenny screamed so loudly that you could hear the next door scolding them.
"I don't know if she actually is, but there must be a reason behind it." Lily was trying to defend Cherry. Jenny sighed and asked,
"Okay. What about the third one?"
"I still have no idea about that, but I am trying to get closer to her.”
It'd been totally silent between them for a moment. "Well, that was a lot." Jenny said this and took a deep breath, trying to process everything she had just heard.
"So, what should I do?" Lily asked, breaking the silence once more.
"Can't you snap your own head for once? You seem very smart in classes!" Jenny got really annoyed and sounded rude this time.
"Well, I don't have any experience in love. You're the one in a relationship!" Lily basically yelled in Jenny's face.
That last sentence just stabbed through Jenny's broken heart. She turned silent, looked down, and in a second, Lily could see a tear coming down her face. She was obviously hurt by that sentence.
"Hey, I am sorry! I didn't mean to." She got interrupted again by Jenny.
"You know I just broke up with him, right? Did you really have to remind me of him at such a vulnerable stage of our relationship?" She was sobbing with a shaky voice.
"I am really, really sorry. I forgot." She got interrupted again.
"How could you forget like that? I am your best friend!" Jenny sobbed a little and then got herself together. She wiped her tears away and took a deep breath before saying,
"I am sorry for overreacting. It's just that a lot has been going on in my mind lately. Especially after the breakup."
"Are you sure you're okay?" I am sorry, na. It just slipped out of my mind," Lily apologized.
"Let's get back to your problem." Jenny tried to brush her problem off by focusing on Lily's problems. But deep down, the more she's avoiding the topic, the more it's hurting her.
"Yeah, so... What do you suggest I do? I am still not sure about my feelings."
"If I were you, I'd probably try to be her friend first. I want to get to know her more and get closer to her. I think if you get closer to her, it won't take you long to realize your feelings." Good advice!
"Alright then.”
A Few Days Later
Lily talked to Cherry almost every day in university now. They got pretty close. Lily was also now close to Del, as a bonus. Cherry and Lily were in the same faculty, and Lily even took the same major as Cherry, while Del was in the same faculty but with a different major. Cherry and Lily were both architecture majors.
Cherry and Lily walked out of their classrooms and met in the hallway.
"Phi, can I ask you something?"
"What is it?" Cherry looked up at her.
"We're supposed to submit the building project in 3 days, right? But I haven't even started it. I didn't get one word the professor explained."
"Why didn't you ask him to explain it again?" Cherry got the point.
"I tried to, but the bell rang before I could! You've done it already, Phi; help me, na na na!" Using the privilege of being younger, I see!
"Fineeee. Where do you want to do it?" And of course someone gave in.
"At my dorm, my roommate will be a distraction. Outside is loud. Do you have any places to recommend, Phi?" I see where this is going!
"Wanna go to my place? I live alone..." Seizing the chances, huh?
"Your place? Would this be a good idea, Phi?'' Deep down, she knew what she wanted!
"Sure, na, don't worry!"
"See you there at 7 then." Well, that was easy!
"See ya.”
At Cherry's dorm
The dorm was pretty standard. Convenient for one person to live. A single bed on the side, a dressing table, on one corner it's Cherry's study table filled with books, in the middle of an empty wall was a small bookshelf, on the side was a small sofa, in front of it was a small table and on the other corner was the bathroom. Pretty small room although a lot of stuff there but nothing looked that expensive.
"Where should I sit?" Lily's hands were filled with things for the project.
"You can put those on the table and sit on the sofa." Cherry said while pointing to them.
Lily put the things from her hand on the table beside the sofa and sat on the sofa.
"You sit, I'll go change my clothes. I'll be back." She locked the door to change into casual clothes since she wasn't home as well as she just came back from her part-time job.
"Okay." Lily took a look at the things in the package, counting them to see if she's brought everything and the right amount.
Cherry came out a few seconds later in an oversized t-shirt and sweatpants with her hair put up in a bun and wearing a pair of round glasses.
"Should we begin?" She said with her soft little high-pitched voice.
Lily stared at her nice outfit and put back hair for a few seconds not being able to look away. 'She looks so cute' Lily thought to herself.
"Hmm? Yeah, l-let's start." Lily replied after a few seconds of silence between them.
They stared at each other for a few seconds and then got to work. The tension was building!!
They worked till 10 at night yet weren't able to finish the project completely.
"Hey, it's 10 pm right now. Are you hungry? Should we take a break?'' Cherry asked.
"I am hungry but I can go back and eat. It's late, phi. I think I should go. We can finish this tomorrow." Lily said looking down, a bit shy as Cherry was sitting pretty close to her.
"Or... you can just crash here." Good suggestion!
'I am not ready for a sleepover yet' Lily thought to herself.
"No it's fine, phi. I can tell my friend to come pick me up. I don't want to bother you."
Lily called Jenny, packed her stuff and left as quickly as she could (that's what we call gay panic) not looking back at all while Cherry was sitting there smiling yet looking pretty lost finally being able to get a hint of who she might be.
