Chapter 9

"Hey Lottie," Emmett said, gaining my attention away from my new friends.

"Hey Emmett," I said. "This is Alex, Grant, and Matt. Guys, this is Emmett Cullen."

"It's nice to meet you," he said, nodding at them politely.

"You too," the guys said.

Alex, however, spoke up quickly, "you hurt our girl we'll have problems."

"I won't hurt her," he said, chuckling.

"Hey, we'll catch up with you later. We're all serving lunch detentions already," Grant said, laughing a little.

"What he means is we're on prom committee, and we have to spend our lunch in a meeting today," Alex said.

"Alright, have fun," I said. I headed off to my locker with Emmett.

"What's your plan for lunch?" He asked.

"Um, dad gave me a few bucks," I said.

"Well, Esme was worried you wouldn't eat, so she sent an extra lunch for you," he said, handing me a bag.

"Thanks," I said. As we walked into the cafeteria, all eyes turned to look at us. I was hoping it was because of Emmett, but I knew it was because of me. Everyone had heard I'd been expelled for fighting, and now it was all anyone would talk about. Even Matt brought it up last period.

"Don't worry about them," he said, wrapping his arm around my shoulder and guiding me to the table his siblings were at. When Alice noticed, she stood up, skipping over to us to draw the attention away from me.

"How was your morning?" She asked happily.

"Um, pretty good," I said. "I found a band to start playing with, so that's good."

"That crew is not a good group," Edward muttered as we all sat down, Alice on one side of me and Emmett sat on the other.

"Funny," I said. "They said the same thing about you."

Rosalie laughed a little. "Maybe I will like you after all," she said, flashing me a smirk. "I'm Rosalie Hale, Jasper's twin."

"Charlotte Swan. You can call me Lottie," I said.

"Lottie, I don't think we've been formally introduced," Mason said. "I'm Mason Cullen."

"It's nice to meet you," I said, nodding a little.

Throughout lunch, Emmett talked mostly to me. Alice occasionally joined the conversation, but for the most part she just curled into Jasper's side, making him smile down at her happily.

My heart ached for that feeling. For that type of totally in love feeling. I longed for my soulmate. I'd been with a few guys and most of them cheated on me because they were wannabe rock stars who couldn't keep it in their pants.

"Everything okay?" Emmett asked lowly. I nodded, smiling a little.

"If you wanna talk about it, I'm here," he offered.

"No, I'm fine, really," I said, smiling at him.

"How're you doing with being away from your sister?" He asked.

"Not the greatest. We call every night. I keep trying to get her to move here, and I think it might happen when Mom decides she wants to travel with Phil," I said.

"Phil?" He asked.

"Our stepdad. He's a baseball player. Travels a lot for the sport," I said. Emmett nodded and changed the subject to our afternoon.

"Wait, what're you doing after school?" He asked.

"Meeting my Dad for dinner," I said.

"What time?" He asked.

"4:00, why?" I responded.

"I was just hoping we could hang out," he said, shrugging it off.

"I'll text you all night," I said.

"Yes, but then I won't get to see your beautiful face or hear that stunning voice," he said. I rolled my eyes at him.

"You, sound totally infatuated, and let me tell you something Emmett, it isn't a good look," I said as the bell rang and we had to head to our next class.
