Chapter 4
"Here's your room," Dad said as he led me up to the room Bella and I shared. Our bunk beds were still there, but he'd updated it some, adding my posters that had been sent ahead and a computer on the desk in the corner.
"Thanks," I said, noticing new bed spreads on both beds. The black on the top bunk was definitely for me since the bottom bunk now had purple on it.
"Um, you have a tour tomorrow at the school," he said. "Other than that, you don't have to do anything until school starts on August 22."
"Oh, cool," I said. I was sure I'd need to adventure some and get used to the area. Maybe I'd find a job working in a music store or something. Maybe I'd even find a new band to play with.
"Um, I have to work in the morning, but your tour isn't until one so I'll come home after lunch and we can go together if you don't mind your old man tagging along," he said.
"That's fine Dad," I said. "I don't mind at all."
"Alright. It's uh, getting kinda late. Do you want dinner?" He asked.
"I love food," I said.
"The diner sound okay?" He asked.
"Do they have burgers and fries?" I asked. "And possibly milkshakes?"
"Yes, yes, and yes," he said.
"Then let's go," I said, and we headed down to the cruiser and left for the diner.
As we ate dinner, we talked and caught up.
"What about boys?" Dad asked.
"Not recently, but I wouldn't be opposed to a new relationship," I said. "What about you? You got yourself a woman yet?"
"No. I'm just happy being me. What can I say? I'm a terminal bachelor," he said.
"I doubt that Dad," I said, chuckling a little at him. Pretty soon dinner was over and Dad was paying the bill so we could head home.
The car ride consisted solely of me singing along to the radio as Dad drove the short distance.
"I'm sure you're exhausted. I'll see you tomorrow," Dad said once we were in the house again.
"Yeah. I have to go call Izzy anyways," I said.
"Um just the one bathroom, remember?" He asked.
"Yeah that's fine. I'll shower tomorrow morning," I said. He agreed so we said our goodnights and headed our separate ways.
I changed into some plaid pajama pants and an old Queen shirt before crawling up to my bed with my cell phone in hand. No sooner had I opened it before it started ringing.
"Lottie, tell me everything," Bella said.
"What's there to tell?" I asked.
"I wanna know everything," she said, so I began telling her every single boring and mundane detail. We spent three hours on the phone. Three hours.
Eventually I told her I had to go to sleep so I could look halfway alive the next day at my tour. I had to promise her I'd call again the next night. At this rate I'd have to start going to my room and calling her at seven just to get enough sleep.
I drifted easily into a peaceful sleep. I kept dreaming, just short flashes, almost like a picture book, of a man, an incredibly handsome man with dark hair, jacked muscles, and amber eyes. I had no idea who this guy was, but he seemed rather amazing.
I knew that this had to be a good sign. I hadn't had peaceful dreams in months, maybe even years. Usually my dreams are just nightmares of the different ways I could die. But for some reason, my first night in Forks consisted only of happy visions of a total stranger.
