Chapter 10
"Wait, what's that mean?" He asked as we walked.
"Just that most girls like guys who hide their feelings is all," I said, shrugging a little.
"Oh, but what does Lottie like?" He asked.
"Musicians," I said teasingly.
"What?" He asked, hurt flashing across his face.
"And muscles, and good music taste, and a guy who appreciates me for who I am, and one who won't make a big deal about me being in a band with other guys," I said.
"There were undertones there. What's that about?" He asked.
"I had an ex who was incredibly jealous of my friendship with AJ, so I broke up with him to save the band," I said.
"AJ is?" He questioned, hoping I'd explain further.
"My absolute best friend and the drummer of Saving Charlotte," I said.
"You have pretty strong feelings for him," Emmett said, leading me into the back of the classroom we were scheduled to be in after lunch.
"AJ and I have been through a lot together," I said. "I'd rather not discuss it further right now."
"That is a-okay," he said. "I'm here if you want to talk about it."
I smiled a little at him but the bell rang and the teacher began talking.
My thoughts drifted to my best friend in Pheonix. I'd talked to him nearly as much as I'd talked to Bella. We'd Skyped quite a few times but it wasn't the same as laying next to him, singing fragments of songs to one another.
That was how we wrote some of our best songs, laying side by side. We sounded like we were playing a game of Telephone, the melody of what was being sung changing ever so slightly each time until we were singing the same thing like a broken record. That was how we knew we'd gotten it right.
AJ was starting his senior year of high school back in Pheonix today, alongside Max and Abby, the other two members of Saving Charlotte. I was the baby of the band, being a whole year behind them in school, and in Max's case, two years younger.
I knew it was selfish but I had really been hoping that they'd move up here after this school year so we could get back to playing.
The rest of the afternoon flew by and before long, Emmett was walking me out to our Jeeps.
"Hey, do you maybe want me to pick you up for school from now on?" He asked.
"Emmett, I couldn't ask you to do that," I said, throwing my bag into the passenger side of my car.
"You didn't ask, I offered," he said, shrugging a little as he stood I front of me, leaving me but a few inches of breathing room. My back was pressed against the now shut passenger door, and Emmett was standing incredibly close to me. I could feel the blush rising in my cheeks as his definite height advantage became even more noticable.
"Let me know," he said, pushing himself away from me and towards his Jeep.
"Emmett," I said, gaining his attention. "Yeah, sure." He smiled in response, nodding before hopping onto the back of his Jeep as Jasper got in the driver seat. Alice got into a silver Volvo with Edward while Rosalie and Mason got into a red BMW convertible.
I headed around my Jeep, getting into the driver's seat and heading home quickly before meeting my Dad for dinner.
