Chapter 4

It was the following night and Louis is exhausted. His nap only made him more tired and now he was in desperate need of a proper sleep. Harry was nowhere to be seen, but Louis wasn't that concerned. His sleepy mind assured him that Harry would be fine. Louis climbs into bed and instantly feels himself starting to drift off.

He sees her. Louis hadn't seen her since she passed. He didn't have the heart to look at her body in the casket. Now, she looked perfect. Not even a scratch is seen on her smooth skin. Louis gulps as she smiles at him and runs towards him.

"Dadda! I missed you!" Louis sobs at his daughter's voice. The hole in his heart filled as the girl opens her arms. Louis picks Charlie up and holds her tightly. He wasn't sure when he was going to get another opportunity like this. He feels tears make their way to his eyes and he lets them fall.

"Why are you crying? Did I make you sad, Dadda?" Louis puts Charlie down and looks over her face. He sits on the floor so he was eye level with her. Charlie was always concerned with other people's emotions. Louis wipes his eyes and plasters a smile across his face.

"These are happy tears, Darling, I'm fine. I'm really happy to see you," He explains. Charlie crosses her arms across her tiny chest, clearly not convinced. Louis doesn't care and brings her in for another hug.

"When can I come home? I want to see Andrew. Did he get his hat back," Charlie asks. Louis sucks in a deep breath as the memories from that day resurface. He wishes he could get the imagine of her mangled body out of his head.

Louis didn't know how to explain that she would never see Andrew again. They had already dealt with death before, so she knew what it was. Louis' mother had passed away a few months before Charlie did and Harry's father a few weeks. The Tomlinson family had had one tragedy after another, and they both figured they should explain death to their only daughter.

"Do you remember what I said happened to Grandma? How something really bad happened and we wouldn't see her for a long, long time? Do you remember what I called it?" Charlie gives him a small nod. "Well, that happened again. So, we won't see you in a long time," Louis explains softly. He can feel tears trying to escape his eyes, but he pushes them back down. He couldn't cry in front of her again. Charlie was already scared enough.

Her bottom lip trembles as she squeaks out, "Something happened to you and Papa?" Louis can see his daughter's eyes start to water and he immediately grabs her and holds her. She wraps her tiny arms around him.

"No, Darling, something happened to you," Louis whispers. Charlie pulls back and wipes her eyes. Her eyebrows furrow together. "It's okay now. You're with Grandma Jay and Grandpa Robin. Papa and I love you very much," Louis explains.

Charlie starts crying harder and Louis can't control himself. His mouth opens and the tears start falling. He lets out a forced breath. Nobody should have to go through this.

"You lied to me, Dadda. You said I won't see Grandma for a long time. I-I see her everyday," Charlie cries. Louis pushes down a loud sob and pulls his daughter into his arms again, tighter then ever. He's terrified that she would leave him, again. Louis' not sure if he can handle that.

"Sometimes bad things happen to good people, Charlie. You were too good for us," Louis whispers. He feels Charlie grab him tighter. Louis assumes she understands what this all means now and why she would never come back.

"I miss you, Dadda. Please don't go bye-bye."

"I'll never leave you, Charlie, ever. Do you understand me, Darling? I'm right here," Louis points to her chest, her heart. " Right here, in your heart and you're in mine. Papa and I will be with you one day. Look at the bright side, there's no school up here, huh?" Louis tries to get Charlie to see the good side to this.

Charlie never liked school. Most people would think since her father was a teacher she would love school, but she hated it. Harry and Louis had to drag her out of bed nearly every morning. They both worried about what they would have to do when she started learning harder things. They didn't have to worry about that anymore.

"No, but I miss Andrew. Can you tell him hi for me?"

Andrew. Charlie's best friend. Louis forgot about the boy, because he was so focused on himself. The child must be heartbroken. Louis knew that Andrew cared deeply for Charlie. He always went out of his way to do nice things for her and always wanted her to be smiling. Louis makes a mental note to check up on him.

Louis can feel the time slowly slipping away from him. He clutches the girl tightly to his chest, wanting to breath her in before he must leave. He wishes he could stay here forever and be with Charlie, but he knows it's unrealistic. He feels a hand on his shoulder and hears a voice in his ear. "I've got her now, Louis, please look after yourself."

He could never forget his mother's voice. Louis turns and sees his mother. His eyebrows furrow as he looks over his mother's face. He didn't realize how much he missed her. Jay gives him a kind smile and hugs him closely. Louis sobs into his mother's shoulder. He misses his mother's embrace.

Louis opens his eyes. It was a dream, of course. He turns over and sees Harry. He was sleeping softly beside him. Louis can already feel the tears threatening his eyes as he realizes he would never see his daughter again.

He watches as his husband starts to stir in his sleep. Louis quickly dabs at his tears. He knew Harry didn't like bringing up Charlie's passing and would rather avoid the topic. Louis feels Harry's eyes glaze over his face.

"What's wrong, Love?" Louis sniffles. He feels Harry's arms slip around him and bring him close. Louis prefers to hold Harry, but he didn't mind it now. Louis rests his head on Harry's chest and listens to Harry's heartbeat.

""I dreamt of her. It was so... real," Louis whispers. Harry runs a hand down Louis' back and places a feathery kiss on the older boy's forehead.

"I dream about her too, Beloved."
