Blizzard - 13
I flew back to the Academy with a childish smile on my face, looking back down at the empty plastic milkshake cup. When I got to the window, it was closed but unlocked. I clicked it open and swung it in, the hinges giving a slight squeak. I landed softly on the carpet and tip-toed to the bathroom to change into my pj's. The second I opened the bathroom door, though, I heard a rustling in the room behind me.
"Where have you been?" I froze and slowly turned around. Naomi was sitting in our rolley-chair and miming petting a fake cat. I cleared my throat and rubbed the back of my neck.
"Uhm, just... sightseeing," I answered, dropping the empty milkshake cup into the bathroom's trashcan. She raised a suspicious eyebrow at me.
"Really?" Naomi mused, not convinced. I shrugged and took a step back into the bathroom. The second I did this, she disappeared and I jumped into the restroom and shut and locked the door. I knew she was still outside when I heard a thump and a muffled "ow." I sighed in relief and changed out of my suit and into my fuzzy narwhal pajamas. I listened to the outside for a second, then decided Naomi had fallen asleep again. I slipped out of the bathroom and turned off the light, then settled into my bed. I turned on my side and fell asleep after a few minutes.
~ Time Skip One Night ~
The second I opened my eyes, a smile bloomed on my lips. Stretching, I sat up and threw my covers off of my body. I ran to the bathroom brushed my tangled blue hair, the smile lasting through the entire torturing experience. I finished and rushed back out of the bathroom, narrowly missing Naomi as I ran out. She put her hands on my shoulders and glared at me.
"Don't talk to me before my tea," Naomi growled. I just smiled crazily. She leaned back a bit and raised an eyebrow. "Are you ok?"
I nodded.
We continued down the stairs in silence, my subtle smile not wavering for a moment. We walked into the cafeteria and got our usual breakfasts and sat down at our normal table. I ate with my smile the entire time, and people were just openly staring now. Mathew joined us our table and I kept my smile, obviously.
"Are you ok?" he asked, a smile identical to mine playing at his lips. I shrugged and kept drinking my lemonade, replaying the events of the other night in my head like a movie that was put on repeat. Naomi scooted away from me and shuddered.
"She's sorta creepy like this," she admitted. Mathew laughed softly, sending a wave of shivers down my arms and back. The laugh felt slightly familiar, but I reminded myself that I had known him since the fourth grade, of course it was familiar. If it wasn't, I'd be concerned.
"Eh, I think she's kind-of cute, actually," Mathew smirked. Now this - THIS made my smile waver. I felt my face heat up and I looked down at my plate in silence. Naomi was trying hard not to laugh, it was easy to tell. I sipped my lemonade and tried no to remember what had happened at the Sushi Dragon place, how Mathew had already had a girlfriend. I saw Naomi shift uncomfortably in her seat from the corner of my eye.
"Mathew, what was that at the Sushi Dragon place?" Naomi asked venomously, glaring at Mathew. He coughed.
"Well, that was Amelia, a coworker of mine. She's a bit... delusional," Mathew explained. I looked back up at him, Naomi cocking her head to the side a bit.
"You have a job?" Naomi asked. Mathew paled and backed away a bit. I glanced at Naomi and saw that her narrowed eyes knew exactly what he was talking about.
"Um, kinda," Mathew coughed again and stood up. Naomi stood up, too, and I thought it was only appropriate to stand up too. I carried my plate to the trash and refilled my training water bottle with lemonade. Naomi took my free hand and led me out of the cafeteria and back up the stairs to our room.
I sat down on my bed and drank my lemonade in silence as Naomi paced around the room. I would've been very intimidated if I hadn't been so sad. All of a sudden, we hear an alarm. Naomi practically jumped into her suit and opened the window. She told me to get into my suit and fly with her to the city. I followed orders and quickly changed into my suit then jumped out the window next to Naomi. We flew to the city swiftly and were astounded at what we saw.
Everything, every building, every streetlamp had frost covering it. The citizens were shivering and shouting at each other to get inside or under cover. I hugged my arms tightly.
"It's freezing..." I muttered, trembling in the cold. I was suspended in midair next to Naomi, who was surveying the landscape like she was calculating how much damage there was.
"It's Blizzard. The ice powered supervillain," she explained, flying up higher. I followed her to the top of another building. We saw a burst of snow and ice explode from a building a few feet away from ours. We flew over and saw a man holding his arms out to several frozen civilians. His smile was brighter than the snow, his hair identical to his teeth. His suit was a light blue with a snowflake in the front. He laughed when he saw us.
"Nice of you to come, young supers. I'll love to add you to my frozen statue collection!" He cackled, sending a beam of ice crystals and snow at us. We both dodged out of the way, Naomi turning invisible and me sending back a ray of electricity. It hit his shoulder and he hissed.
"Charge, I presume?" He said, trying to freeze me again. I dodged. "You're new. I've heard many things about you."
I kept sending rays made of many bolts at him, each one more powerful than the next. One of his ice beams hit me square in the chest and made me land on the building. He laughed again.
"You're nothing to a veteran like me," He smirked, shooting another beam. I dodged, narrowly missing a hit in the head. It was getting harder and harder to breathe and move around, and I felt much colder than when I had been with Naomi. I looked down at my chest and saw ice spreading across it like a flower, its entrancing petals reaching for my arms, legs, and heart. My fingers unwillingly went to feel it, to see how bad it is. I felt a hand grab my wrist before I could. I looked up and saw Naomi staring into my eyes seriously.
"Don't. You need help. It's going to spread," she warned simply, pushing me gently towards the edge of the building. I shook my head to clear my thoughts.
"No- No, I'm fine," I said, floating into the air. Naomi frowned but didn't oppose me. I flew back to where Blizzard was standing and shot a few more bolts at him. He dodged and returned them with his ice beams. I dodged but got slower and slower, the ice on my chest spreading to my thighs. He cackled when he saw this.
"Soon the ice is going to spread and freeze your heart," he laughed, shooting more ice at me. I gritted my teeth and tried to move my legs, but the ice had spread to my ankles and part of my heels. Another ice beam hit me in the arm and I bit back a scream. My arms froze up too and I fell back onto the ceiling. My back had veins of ice running over it, preventing me from moving. I struggled against the ice to no prevail. I was now stuck on the ground like a sitting duck, open to any hits. I felt my hair blow away from my face as another beam of snow rushed at my face. Before it hit me, another body stepped in front of it and saved me.
"Why hello again, Blizzard," the form purred. The voice was female, "Do you want to dance? Or are you having too much fun hurting the newbies?"
Blizzard growled. "But you're not the opposite element of me. You can't fight me," he grumbled.
"Ah, but that's why it's so much fun."
