For the next few days, Rin was given plenty of money to pay for your treatment, all with the help of his friends, the school, and the countless jobs he had. But it wasn't enough. It still wasn't enough to stop the hospital from wanting to pull your plug. Rin walked into school, still trying to think of ways to earn more money. Rin didn't talk to anyone as school started. He eventually attended his first class when he received a call from the hospital in the middle of the class. Picking up the phone without asking the teacher, he answered.

"Is this Rin Matsuoka?" A deep voice run through the phone as Rin gulped, walking out the classroom, leaving the class confused and some worried.

"Y-yes?" He whispered out, hoping you were ok.

"I'm here to inform you about (y/n)." Rin couldn't register the rest of the words as he rushed back in the class to run back out. He passed all his friends in the hallway and ran towards his bike, climbing aboard and cycling all the way to the hospital. Rin didn't slow down but went faster as he got off his bike, throwing it away as he ran passed the nurse and security. Running down the hallway, tears streaming past, he went faster, trying to reach for your door. Slamming against chairs and tables as he tried to slow down, Rin got back up as he opened your door. His breath hitched in his throat, his body not moving, not functioning. Rin fell to his knees, the pain not registering as he saw you, awake and conscious. Rin slowly got up and walks to you, as you smile softly at him.

"(y-y/n)?" Rin whispers, not wanting this dream to stop if it was a dream. He reaches your bed and slowly cups your face, him breaking when he saw you lean into his hands. You grip his hands with yours, your other hand cupping his cheek, wiping away his tears with your thumb. Rin leans into your hand before grabbing it and kissing your palm.

"R-Rin." You whisper out, your voice hoarse. Rin lets out a small laugh, crying again when he heard your voice. That sweet sound he wished to hear every night when he cried by your bed. Rin leans his forehead on yours, both your eyes staring at each other.

"I missed you. So much." Rin whispers out kissing your nose. Tears stream down your cheeks, wanting this moment to last forever. You smile sadly, the life in your eyes fading quickly. Rin notices and leans back, his eyes wide and panicking. "(y/n)! Whats wrong!?" he hears your heart monitor beating slower and slower. Rin panics and starts to cry. He just got you back and now you're leaving him again. Rin holds you to him, like if he could give you his life, as your breathing starts to slow.

"R-Rin. I-I'm so sorry. F-for causing you t-this much pain." Rin shakes his head, not wanting to lose you all over again. "P-promise me." You breathe in heavily after each sentence.

"(y/n) no! You'll make it!" Rin starts to scream out for help, for someone who can keep you alive with him. He turns back to you when he feels you holding his cheek. "(y/n). I can't lose you again. Please." Rin begs as you let out a shaky breath.

"P-promise me you won't s-stop swimming. P-promise me you will continue l-living your life. P-please move on from m-me. F-find someone else who you c-can live your life with you. S-someone who makes you h-happy." You start to cry as Rin hugs you again, holding on to you for dear life.

"(y/n)! Please don't leave me! I love you!" your breath hitches, hearing him say this. You smile softly.

"Rin." Rin pulls back when you suddenly kiss him. He holds you tight around the waist, not wanting to let you go. Your hands on his cheeks tilting your head to deepen the kiss. Rin shakily parts from you as he sees your eyes closed. You open your eyes again, smiling with all the love you have for the red-haired boy.

"I love you. Rin Matsuoka. You were my salvation." You whisper out, cupping his cheeks again.

"I love you too (y/fn)." Rin whispers back, kissing you again fervently, deepening the kiss as his hands tangle in your hair. Your hands that were on his cheeks slowly fall down as Rin starts to cry out. The heart monitor flats out, your body unmoving. Rin screams out for you to wake up again, holding you close to him as he continues to cry. His head on your neck as he screams out in pain, cradling your body in his arms, rocking back and forth, his heart shattering before him.

Rin stands by your grave, your funeral ending hours ago. He couldn't move, reading your name and the date over and over again. Rin heard footsteps approach him but he ignored them. Tears long gone as he had no more left to cry. Gou stands by her brother hugging him. Rin slowly wraps his arms around her, the tears magically appearing when reality hit him harder than a wrecking ball. You were gone, and you were never coming back. Gou lets go of her brother, wiping away his tears and stands next to him. Rin bends down, placing the bouquet of flowers by your headstone. He stands back up, the wind caressing his face as if it were your hands. He lets out a sigh, wiping away the rest of his tears. Gou starts to walk back to the car, Rin following close behind her. He turns back around, the sunlight shining on your gravestone.

"I love you (y/n)"

~A few years later~

Rin entered the school, not looking up at anyone knowing that today was the anniversary of your death. The students around him knew to not talk to the red-haired, so they let him be. His friends tried to talk to him but he just ignored them, walking past them towards the pool where you two had first met. Sitting down at the table, Rin leans back, closing his eyes, letting out a few tears. He still missed you. He still loved you. Rin sighs, promising to not dwell on the past like he promised you. Rin had kept swimming, for you. Kept living his life, for you. He kept his promise, but he couldn't promise to forget you. Letting out another sigh, Rin was about to get up when he heard a shriek and then a loud splash. Getting up, he ran to the side of the pool to see pool toys and equipment strewn everywhere. The water rippled and bubbles popped, Rin running to the side to see figure underwater, but not surfacing. Panicking, he dove into the water, to see a girl unconscious. Rin couldn't see their face since their hair was covering it.

Grabbing the girl by the waist, Rin rose her to the surface, lifting her out of the pool. Getting out himself, he checked for any wounds and their heartbeat. He pumped their stomach a few times and was about to mouth to mouth when Rin moved her hair. His breath hitched in his throat, eyes widening. The girl coughed out, turning to her side away from Rin. He narrowed his eyes at her, looking at her features. The girl slowly got up, breathing heavily and turning towards Rin. He noticed that their hair colour was the same, their eyes were the same, their lips, and their face. That this girl looked like you. Rin's breathing quickens and his heart beating faster, anger in him boiling. He glares at the imposter of you, getting up and walking to his stuff. Before he was about to walk off, small hands grabbed his arm. Rin stares down at the hands in disgust, throwing them off before turning around. He stares at the girl as she looks down scared.

"What do you want?" Rin spits out, the girl flinching at his tone.

"Thank you." Rin stares again, face passive when he hears the girls voice. His mind turns 360 when he realises this girl even sounds like you. He softens seeing the girl almost in tears. He sighs, nodding.

"It's ok." Rin was about to walk off when the girl grabbed the back of his shirt. Rin groans inward and turns back around.

"I'm so sorry Rin." Rin stares at the girl confused as she looked up at him, smiling sadly.

"For what?" Rin then realises that she knew his name when he didn't tell her. His eyes widen. "How did you know my-"

"For hurting you all these years." Rin got cut off by the girl, the words still registering in his mind. His mind reels, trying to figure everything out until he looks at the girl with wide eyes. He stumbles back, in shock and awe as tears spring in his eyes. You look back at Rin, tears streaming down, nodding.

"(y-y/n)?" tears start to flow from Rin's eyes as he walks up to you, hesitantly cupping your cheek. You lean into his hands, closing your eyes as you finally feel your lovers hands again after so long. "H-how?" Rin muses, still confused but overjoyed. He saw your heart stop. He saw your body being buried. He went to your funeral. You open your eyes again, smiling up at Rin as he looks down at you, the love in his eyes.

"I got a second chance." You whisper as tears flow. Rin shakily wipes away the free-falling tears. Rin hugs you tightly, his head in your neck as he cries out. You wrap your hands around Rin's neck, his arms around your waist as he holds you tightly to him. He never wanted to let you go again and neither did you. Tears spill down on each other's necks as you hold each other tightly, missing the familiar warmth. You pull back and smile as Rin wipes his tears away. He wipes away your tears away and leans his forehead on yours.

"(Y/n). I love you. I love you so much." Rin cries again as you hold his cheeks.

"I love you too Rin. I'm so-." Rin quickly captures your lips with his, in a chaste kiss. He holds you to him as you hold his cheeks. Rin deepens the kiss as if you would disappear right in front of him. You return the kiss with the same amount of passion. Your arms wrap around his neck as Rin tangles his hand in your hair, deepening the kiss more, not wanting you to move away. Rin wraps an arm around your waist, finally being able to feel your lips after a long time. Rin parts for a breath as the same as you and kisses you again, long and hard, earning him a squeal in reply. Each time, he kisses you longer in time and passion, never wanting to stop. Rin slowly pulls away, not before tugging on your bottom lip, earning him a blush from your cheeks. Rin stares deeply into your eyes, both seeing love and adoration in each other's eyes. He hugs you again, scared to lose you again, right before his eyes.

"Please don't leave me again. Please." Rin whispers into your neck. You hug him tight, your head laying on his neck.

"I'm here and I'm staying. I will never leave you again. I promise."
