That was 5 years ago. That day, you were glad to be rescued by Earl Phantomhive. Glad that he still held his offer for you to become one of his maids. That day when you woke up on the softest bed in the most comfortable clothing, you knew your life would change for the better. You agreed to become a maid at the Phantomhive Manor, meeting the other staff and instantly becoming the best of friends. Mey-Rin, the clumsy but sweet maid, Bard, the stubborn but hilarious cook, Finny, the strong but kind-hearted Gardner, Tanaka, the old but very wise father figure and Sebastian, the cat lover yet polite butler. You loved them all as if they all were your own family. You also loved the Earl, but not as part of a family, but as more. You had fallen in love with him when you first realise he was not as bad as the other Earls you served. Though he was reserved and cold, he cared for his servants and his family. You were glad that he found you in the streets, rescued you from that dark life and helped you into the new you. But you knew he would never return your feelings. He was an Earl, you were a mere maid and he was engaged. Nonetheless, you still loved him.
It was Ciel's 18th birthday. The day he was to propose to his cousin, Elizabeth Midford. Though, he had his heart captured by another. He never loved Lizzy that way, he loved you. His heart yearned for you and only you. When you agreed to become a maid at his mansion, he had felt a spark in his heart. A spark he had never felt in a long time, happiness. He made you his personal maid, making sure you only did the easy tasks, so not to exhaust you. He made sure you were well fed and that you were healthy, letting you take day offs, along with the other staff. He knew he finally loved you when he could not stop thinking about you, and especially when you were hurt.
That day, when you captured by the Trancy's, he was angry beyond anything in the world could ever comprehend. He made sure you were safe after that incident, staying by your side when you had a nightmare. His love never faltered but grew when he found out you were blind. He helped you around the mansion, leading you to where you had to go, holding your hand and leading the way. He made sure you were able to run your hands across the walls without being injured, gave you a little bell if you were ever in need of help. Ciel loved you for the way you are. But now, his heart is torn, him having to propose to someone he doesn't even love. Ciel was shaken from his thoughts when he heard a knock at his door.
"Enter." Ciel instantly smiles when you walk in, your face adorned with a bright smile. A hand holding onto the wall and one behind your back. Ciel quickly holds onto your hand, leading you carefully to his bed.
"Happy birthday master!" Ciel chuckles lowly.
"How many times have I told you. Call me Ciel (y/n)." Ciel blushes when he notices your cheeks going red.
"Sorry, ma-Ciel. Here." Ciel looks down at your hands to notice a box. He takes it slowly, smiling lightly.
"What is this?"
"It's your gift from me."
"Thank you (y/n)." Ciel watches as you lead your way out of his room, closing the door behind you. He looks at the small gift, smiling. Before he was able to unwrap it, his door burst open to reveal his fiancé. Elizabeth Midford. Ciel scowls at her as she grabs his arms.
"Ciel. The party is about to start." She grabs the gift and places it on the bedside table, dragging him away. Ciel looks back at the gift, upset.
You sigh as you lean back on your bedroom door, slumping to the floor. Your cheeks burn red as you remember Ciel holding your hand. You sigh again, placing your head on your hand, smiling. You get shaken from your thoughts when a knock is heard at your door. You stand up and open the door, sensing a presence but with no aura. You realise it's Sebastian and smile up at him.
"Hello, Sebastian."
"Hello (y/n). Even after these past years, it still amazes me how you are able to sense it's me." You giggle lightly, stepping back to let him in. You hear him enter, but his footsteps seem to be a bit heavier than usual. You hear rustling and that's when you realise that Sebastian was holding something.
"Sebastian? What are you holding?" You turn to him, closing the door behind you. You hear him chuckle lightly, holding out your hand so you can feel what he was holding. You run your fingers over the object, noticing that it is silky to the touch. Some parts are rough with embroidery and others hard with sequins. You smile at Sebastian, hugging him.
"It's for you (y/n). The young master bought it for you." You can practically hear the smirk from Sebastian when you hear that Ciel bought you a dress.
"But why?"
"I am afraid I cannot tell you. I am only here to help you get ready." You nod. As you head to the bathroom to wash up, Sebastian observes the dress. He smiles, knowing the reason behind to why Ciel bought it. Everyone in the mansion knows about his love for you, knowing that he can't marry Elizabeth. Sebastian helps you into the dress once you were finished. The dress fits like a glove and made you look even more stunning. Sebastian smiled as he leads you to your vanity, carefully brushing your hair. He smiled once more when he saw the twinkle in your dull eyes. He wanted this twinkle to last forever. Sebastian cares for you as you were his only sister, he wanted to see you happy. If he were to take Ciel's soul, it would break your heart, this would shatter Sebastian if he saw you sad for the rest of your life. This was unusual for a demon like him to have feelings like this. So he was helping his master with this final task, before extinguishing the contract between them. The master has finally grown into a man. But he yet has one final test to overcome.
Ciel stood by Elizabeth, angry that he was not able to open your gift. Even though they were older, Elizabeth never grew out of her childish stage. She ran off, complementing the gowns of women, squealing at cute things and forcing Ciel to dance with her. His mood darkened as the clock ticked closer to midnight. He had to propose to someone he didn't love. He was going to lose you forever. He wasn't going to have a family with you. Play with his children with you or grow old with you. It would be all with a woman he never loved in the first place. He didn't care if you were a maid, he loved you, and only you. His eyes brimmed with tears, knowing that he may not have a future with you.
Unknowing to Ciel, Elizabeth noticed the gloomy look on her fiancé's face. Her smile vanished and she sighed, knowing that this was all her fault. Knowing that she will never be able to receive the love from Ciel she wished to have. She knew that he loved another, even though she poured her love out for him. Elizabeth only wanted to see Ciel smile. Smile once, even if it wasn't of her doing. She just wanted to see him happy. She knew that you loved Ciel and that he loved you. She never wanted to be in the middle of your love, never wanted to be the problem. If not marrying him was the only way to finally see him smile, even if it was with another woman, she would take that chance. Even if she would never have a future with the one she loved. But she loved him, and just wanted to see him smile every day, living his life happily and to the fullest. Smiling sadly at Ciel, she knew what she had to do at midnight.
Ciel watched the couples dancing while waiting as the time moved forward. He suddenly heard the clicking of heels and looked up the stairs of his mansion. A spotlight shined on you as you descended down the stairs with the help of Sebastian. You smiled, feeling beautiful for the first time. Ciel watched as your dress curved around your body, your hair, bouncing in each step. You had light make up on, knowing that you are beautiful just the way you are. Your eyes bright and happy, that smile ever so big. Ciel smiled at the sight of you, at the sight of his love. He walked up the steps, Sebastian passing your hand into his. Your cheeks redden when you feel the familiar touch of your love. You turn to him, smiling. You shakily place a hand on his cheek for the first time ever. You never knew what he looked like, but you knew what the others did when you memorised their face. Ciel grabs your other hand and places it on his other cheek. He holds your hand as you trace every groove and mark, feeling the eye patch and his ever so soft hair. You giggled lightly at the feel, Ciel smiling lovingly at you. Ciel leans into your hand, entwining his fingers with yours, kissing the other.
Tears brim your eyes knowing that your life would have never changed if it wasn't for him. You hug Ciel with all your might, whispering thank you over and over again. Ciel's heart warmed when he held you in his arms when you hugged him like your life depended on it. But that shattered when the clock stroke 12. Ciel's eyes widened when the couples around him cheered for the proposal, as they separated the two of you. Ciel was taken over to Elizabeth, shaking his head. Elizabeth faced him, smiling sadly at his grief-stricken face. Sighing, Ciel took out the ring, kneeling down on one foot. He faced you and his heart shattered when he noticed a single tear on your face. You still smiled for him, even though he was marrying another. Ciel turns back to Elizabeth, gulping. The clock finally stroke 12:01 and that's when he proposed.
"Lady Elizabeth Ethel Cordelia Midford, would you do the honors and marry me." Ciel's voice cracked, knowing what was to come.
"Ciel Phantomhive." Elizabeth looks at her lovers face and back at you smiling. "No." The crowd gasps and Ciel lets out a breath. He stands up looking at his fiancée. Elizabeth holds his hand. "I will not marry you and make you live a life with me if you are not happy. Ciel, remember how I've always told you how I wanted to see you smile, even just once, now I know how to do that." Elizabeth leads Ciel to you as the crowd murmurs. "Don't propose to a woman you don't love, propose to someone who loves you, and you to her. (Y/n), Ciel, I want you to live a happy life together." Elizabeth takes you had and places it on top of Ciel's. Ciel grasps your hand and turns to Elizabeth, smiling.
"Thank you. For everything. Lizzy." Ciel turns to you and kneels.
You place a hand over your mouth, as tears threatening to flow out, thanking Elizabeth for giving you her blessing.
"(Y/n) (m/n) (l/n). I always thought that the world would forever be cold and cruel. That this world would never be bright again. That all changed when I first found you singing in that field 5 years ago. I knew that you have experienced much worse than me, and yet, you were that happiness that I once lost. Your whole being made my life happy again, the once revenge filled anger and vengeance dispersed when I had you in my life. I never knew what love was like but with you, I now know. I can't continue my life without you (y/n). So please, would you make me the happiest man on earth, and marry me?" You nod happily as Ciel slips the teal encrusted diamond ring on your finger. He stands up and holds you by the waist, finally being able to kiss you. The crowd cheers at the newly couples. Elizabeth smiling happily knowing she finally made Ciel happy, Sebastian watching you both as he destroyed the contract between him and Ciel. You kiss Ciel smiling, knowing that he loved you back. You part for air, Ciel leaning his forehead on yours as he holds your hands.
"I love you Ciel." You whisper to him.
"I love you too (y/n)." Ciel replies back, kissing you once more.
