Nico di Angelo x Reader (PJO/HoO)
Soulmate AU!
//This version of the AU is where one soulmate has the first words heard by the other, and burns as you get closer to the location and time, and the other soulmate has a timer. In this case, the reader has the words, and Nico has a timer.//

"...it just isn't how the Poseidon card works!"
These are the eight words that have followed me from birth. It's scary, to be honest. Being the (son/daughter) of (God/Goddess,) and only ever seeing what inside of (CHB/CJ). I've never met my mortal parent, as I was told that no one knows who they were, so it's hard. Trying to live as a normal mortal, but constantly surrounded by fellow demigods.
After the war with Gaea, though, we were allowed out of the borders a bit more. I often traveled with (Frank, Hazel, and Jason/Percy, Annabeth, Leo, and Piper) to our previous rivals' camp and back to our own.
That's what we were currently doing right now, arriving at the gates of our (previously enemy) camp, Camp Half Blood. As we walked into the camp, Chiron generated us as usual, and we were let go to do what we wished.
Normally, I would do (activity of choice,) but this journey was harsher than the previous ones. As we neared the camp, my tattoo burned, giving me a slightly off feeling. I continued to walk around, seeing if the tattooed words would burn harsher or not depending on where I was and when. This was new. I'm at this camp (quite often each year/almost everyday,) and not once has my tattoo burned this badly.
I didn't know if it was a good sign that I was only now going to meet my soulmate, but I knew that it would be interesting. I continued to walk around the camp, changing directions every once in a while depending on the intensity of the burning.
"Argh..." I whimpered in immense pain, this level of intensity unfelt until now. I looked up only to see the Hades' Cabin casting a dark shadow over my figure. "So this is where my soulmate would be?"
Everyone was told of the tales of soulmates. How when you find yours, it's the most romantic thing that will ever happen to you. How when you find yours, you'll never look at the world the same. How when you first hear the words imprinted on your wrist that you'll be the happiest being alive.
That isn't how it was for me.
Considering I already knew the rules about two people being alone in a cabin, and wanted to respect that, I waited to hear voices to determine genders.
"Now, I attack with Poseidon usi- huh? Why are you shaking you're head at me? Isn't this how you use the Poseidon card?" Was that... Frank Zhang?
A few words were said that were incoherent to my ears, then the words that would change my life followed. "...it just isn't how the Poseidon card works!"
I burst through the cabin doors, almost fuming, and shout, "MY SOULMATE PLAYS MYTHOMAGIC?!"
Both boys, whom were situated near a back corner, which seemed like a comfortable area I might add, looked up at me with shock in their eyes. The one leaning against the wall was a emo looking boy. He was clocked in all black, with a faded white skull on his shirt. A Stygian Iron swords situated next to him, and Mythomagic cards and figurines surrounding him.
I look to the boy across from him, Frank Zhang. I (normally see him walking around the Camp talking to the other 7/am good friends with him and arrived here not to long ago with him.) My eye twitched in annoyance, "Son of Hades, what's your name?" I question him with a commanding tone.
"Hey, calm down, (Y/N). He's not good with people," Frank said to me as he turned to call down the one whom is my soulmate.
"Alright," I sigh with annoyance. "I'll introduce myself, like how I should've... I'm (Y/F/N). Child of (God/Goddess,) age 14. Since we are soulmates, so I would like to at least know your name, so I could call you appropriately."
I hear a faint sound come from him, and I presume that he is telling me his name.
"I'm sorry, but I didn't catch that."
"N-nico. Nico diAngelo," he stuttered. "Age 14." Hm, he didn't seem like one to stutter. Perhaps it's nerves, or is he just that socially inadequate?
I smiled as his name rolled off my tongue, "Nico, huh? Well then, Nico, I hope we can become friends. Sorry about judging Mythomagic, earlier. It's just that I don't understand it, so it ends up seeming like I hate it. I'm just not good at, well," I sigh. "Admitting weakness..."
He smiles weakly and stands up, Frank now standing near the entrance of the cabin giving us as much privacy as possible while still looking after us. Dusting off his pants and hands, he reluctantly offers his hand for a shake. "I... I hope we can be friends also, and I could teach you... Th-that is if you like!" He says urgently, as if he's scared that I would run away.
I smiled and took his hand, firmly shaking it. "I would love that. Well, Nico. This seems like the start of an awesome friendship."

So, if you couldn't tell, this was set before any events in 'The Trials of Apollo: The Hidden Oracle', right after the war with Gaea, so a lot of details won't fit if you match it up to that time period.
