In my stories, Elves can rotate their ears 180 degrees, so they face up, down, to the sides, and back. Elves also have different emotions linked to their ear positions.

Examples of this would be when an Elf's ears are straight up facing forward, they are attentive or happy, and when they're out to the sides and facing downward they are sad.
