The Date (David and Lea)

"So," David starts as he tears off a piece of roti and places hummus on top of it. "You free, Friday?" He asks before placing the piece of roti with hummus in his mouth.

"What about Friday?" Lea asks nonchalantly. "Wait. Isn't tomorrow Friday?"

"Oh my God, Lea! This is so good!" David exclaims looking at the roti with hummus on the plate like it was some miraculous and divine thing.

Lea breaks off in a smile and helps herself to another serving. "This is one of my favorite snacks," she tells him. "B-But don't change the subject! What's with Friday? I mean, I only have dinner with you and that's that."

David has been eating dinner with Lea for the past month and it is a complete 180 degree turn for David to actually enjoy dinner again. At first it was the food. He has been trying new cuisines and it has been exciting him. But now, he looks forward to dinner because of Lea and the things they talk about as the two of them enjoy their simple dinners together.

"I rented this mini private movie theater room around the square and we get to choose any movie that we want to watch. It'll just be the two of us. You game?" David looks at Lea expectantly. "I...I mean it's hard to say no since I already reserved the place..." He murmurs but Lea does not hear him as she gets lost in her thoughts as to what movie they should watch.

"Hmm, what about Bridge of Spies?" She says, busy with her thoughts, "Or Saving Private Ryan? How about Dunkirk?"

"Woah, woah, wait. You like those kind of movies?" David asks in amazement.

"Yes...is something wrong with that?"

"Not at all! I love those kind of movies too! I just never thought that someone else would like those kind of movies."

Lea lets out a soft laugh. "Well, why do you think I choose to work at a library?"

"Because you would get to read all those books during work?"

"Specifically history books, David," Lea says with a wink. David catches the wink off-guard and it leaves him mesmerized. "So, to answer your question," Lea continues, "Yes, I am very free on Friday."

"Good..." He utters in a daze. "C-Could you perhaps wink again?"

------------

Lea's hands were sweaty. It just crossed her mind that it will only be she and David in one room together.

What happens if he wants to hold my hand?! She thought, I think I would want him to hold my feet instead. They are less sweaty!

"I think we should watch Bridge of Spies. I haven't watched it yet. What about you, Lea?" David asks which brings back Lea to what's at hand.

"You...you haven't watched Bridge of Spies yet?" She asks cautiously, taking a small step away from David.

"I haven't...hey!" He exclaims and holds her arm to bring her back closer to him. "I saw you moving away," he tells her, "What's wrong?"

Lea's cheek start to flush as now she finds herself closer to David. "N-Nothing," she squeaks out. David then softly pinches her cheek.

"Ah, Lea. You're too cute for me." He utters mindlessly, looking at the selection of movies in front of them before taking out a DVD case of Bridge of Spies from the shelf.

"W-What does that mean?" She asks. David wraps an arm around her shoulders as he leads her to the room he rented out for the two of them.

"It means exactly what I said," He answers, looking down at her with a smile. "Now," He lightly shakes the DVD case in front of Lea's face as they reach the room, "how about we enjoy this movie?"

"Want any spoilers? Tom Hanks-"

"No, please!"

------------

"Oh no..." David would whisper repeatedly as a new character in the movie was suddenly captured by the opposing side.

Lea glances at him and almost breaks off into a smile upon seeing his eyebrows furrowed and a frown on his face. She chooses instead to bite the inside of her cheeks to stop herself from smiling.

It was nice to sit beside a guy she knew other than her dad - especially if it's a guy that she does not hate.

"You know what is one thing that we could do to spice things up?" David suddenly speaks up, facing away from the screen and what's going on in the movie to look at Lea. The girl looks at him in surprise as he leans closer to her. With the lights from the movie, mischievous glint in his eyes could be seen in her point of view and she was starting to get skeptical.

"What?"

"We should do things that are daring BUT not things that could put us at risk," he suggests.

"Are you doing this because you're getting stressed out with the movie?" Lea teases him. David lets out a laugh but still refuses to face the screen where the movie was playing.

"Come on, Lea. Think of spicing things up!"

"Well...I don't know any daring things that are not risky." Lea raises her eyebrow out of concern. "Do you have any example of such things?"

David then leans really close to Lea which causes her to sharply intake her breath as David places his lips on her forehead. He closes his eyes as he plants a simple kiss on her forehead and opens then as he pulls away to look at her with a smile. "That was an example," he simply utters smiling at her before turning to look back at the screen.

Lea stays frozen in her spot as David immerses himself in the movie again.

Did he just...

With eyes left wide open and her jaw still in place like she was in awe, she could not move at all.

David just kissed me.

I-I mean not on the lips - that would have been...but he still kissed me!

Oh God. W-What should I do? Do I kiss him back? Is it the right timing for me to ask him to look at me again and then just kiss him? Do I do it on the cheek or...or lips?!!

No. No! I will not give in to what I don't agree with myself for now. Maybe I'll just...I'll just -

Lea holds out her hand to him and refuses to look at him as she says, "Take it."

David looks at the hand in confusion. Take what? He then notices the subtle pink tint on her cheeks as the movie illuminates the room enough for him to see her face. He breaks off into a smile and intertwines his fingers with hers. "I'll take this as completely daring." His smile widens as he looks at theirs hands together and Lea not even daring to face him as she continues to watch the movie. Clearly she is pretending that she is not feeling a thing. If only one could feel her heart beating out of her chest, only then would they call an ambulance.

With their hands holding each other, they continue watching the movie in silence yet filled with content.

After an hour, the movie was almost ending. David could feel it. He did not want it to end because once it ends, his intimate time with Lea also ends. And maybe he has creeped Lea out too much? Surprising her with a kiss on her forehead, 'forcing' her to hold hands with him. I'm such a creep, he thought, she would not want to hang out with me again.

Was Lea's hand getting sweaty? OF COURSE IT WAS. She wanted to die at that moment. To hold hands with a cute boy would of course make her hands sweaty! He is soooo going to stop hanging out with me! Lea thought as she wanted to die out of shame at that moment.

If only they knew what they felt for each other.

As the movie's end credits started to show on-screen, David slowly lets go of Lea's hand and Lea does the same. The movie is over...now what to do? What to say?

"Informative movie," David suddenly speaks out loud. Informative movie?! David scolds himself as he silently cringes in his seat, Who in the world says 'informative movie'?!!

"Yeah," Lea quietly agrees with him. "Tom Hank's character is a really great man..."

The both of them stayed quiet after that. How awkward could things get?

Lea was also never one to assume but David was being too predictable that it started to frustrate her. How could a guy, from being so slick, turn into a scared puppy in a second? A cute puppy though...

Lea clucks her tongue in frustration. If this guy wants to play slow, then he better step-up his game because I'm not one to wait.

"David," she starts slowly, "was...was this a date?"

"I-" David starts but gets cut off by Lea.

"I-I mean, it's just the two of us, and we watched a movie together...and that kiss - you know what, never mind. I'm just out of my wits. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have assumed in the first place-"

David stops her by gently wrapping his hand around her wrist. "I really wanted to say 'date' and not 'hang-out' at first." He whispers. Lea just stares at him as his hand moves to her fingers and starts playing with them. "But," he continue, "I was scared if ever...if ever you-"

"This was the best date ever, David." Lea whispers back, catching David by surprise with her words.

"Really?" He whispers, a smile starting to grow on his face.

"Yeah," Lea simply answers with a smile.

"Really?" He asks again, his voice getting louder with excitement and now there's a clear, evident smile on his face.

"Yes," Lea laughs out.

"You're amazing. May I hold your hand again?" David clasps Lea's hand but she immediately pulls her hand back to her.

"Oh my God, no please!"

David's face scrunches in confusion, "W-Why not?"

"My hand gets really, really sweaty," she utters nervously.

"I don't mind," David says before making another attempt to hold her hand but Lea pulls it farther away from him.

"You should," She says.

"I don't," He says back.

"You should, David."

"Fine. Then I do mind, if that's what you want to hear from me," David finally complies with her, causing Lea to let out a sigh of relief. "But that still won't stop me from wanting to hold your hand, and I mean what I say."

Stunned with his sincerity, Lea could not find herself uttering another word. Her mouth was left agape as she struggled to at least say something.

"And if this is your way of saying that you don't want me to hold your hand yet, then I understand and I respect that," he continues with a gentle smile on his face.

Lea faces him, and with all seriousness she says, "You're too kind for this world, David. And for me."

------------

David brought Lea home, but it wasn't really an new act of him. He always brought her home. This time, they both were just conscious whenever their fingers would brush against each other as they walked in close proximity.

It was Lea who took the initiative to wrap her pinky with David's to stop their fingers from brushing against each other. They both had to hide their smiles from each other.

They finally reached the front porch of Lea's house. She opened the front door, leaving David at the first step, and left it wide open for the both of them to enter the house. "You coming in?" She asks.

David shakes his head with a small smils on his face. "Not tonight," he simply answers.

"Oh," Lea utters, hiding her dejected feeling. "Well then...I had a great time tonight."

"I'm glad you felt that way."

"Yeah...um, goodnight."

"Wait. Where's my goodnight kiss?" David suddenly asks as Lea was about to close the front door.

"G-Goodnight kiss?!" She utters out loud in confusion.

"Here," David goes up the steps of her front porch, "let me be the first to give my goodnight kiss," He leans close to her and leaves a swift kiss on her forehead. "Your turn."

Lea hesitates at first then leans closer to kiss him right below his lips. David lets out an inaudible gasp with her sudden action. "Here's mine", she whispers as she pulls back.

"Will this be how we kiss goodnight?" He asks in a soft voice.

Lea looks at him and without any hesitation says, "I wouldn't mind that at all."
