Falling Off (Adrienette Hogwarts)
First ever one-shot requested by @user20142928. This would also be my very first story based on the 'Harry Potter' universe (J.K. Rowling: LE QUEEN).
"BY MERLIN'S BEARD, I SERIOUSLY AM THINKING ABOUT HEXING YOU AT THIS VERY MOMENT, AGRESTE!" She shouts as she chases Adrien outside the hall. Marinette could not contain her anger any longer as the blond boy decided to blow up what she was brewing in her cauldron during Potions Class. "Merlin, you may be in 'the noble' house of Gryffindor, but deep down I know that you are a stinking Slytherin!" She continues, her anger not subsiding in any moment. She stops as she realizes that she has no chance on catching up with him.
Merlin...why do I always have to curse because of him?
Adrien turns to her direction and flashes that annoying smirk of his that Marinette can't wait to fly a spell out. "Well what can I say, Mari?" And before he continues, he cheekily winks at her, "I am my father's son." With that, he runs away. He leaves her alone in the hall with some students in Hogwarts staring curiously at her.
Seven years. Seven bloody years of torture from that very same guy. And it all started when the boy told Marinette to run through the wrong post. Boy, did those muggles look at her weirdly as her cart full of her belongings broke because of the impact. And Adrien was just laughing his ass off. Unfortunately, that day the girl's parents couldn't get to send her off, so her dad decided to contact his best friend from his schooling days. Who knew that it would have been one of the most famous aurors from the house of Slytherin, Gabriel Agreste.
Mr. Gabriel Agreste took that request with a smile. And how that smile grew even wider when he found out that his son pranked the daughter of his best friend. But, of course, his happiness was cut short when he told his son to help the poor girl fix her things.
And with those weird circumstances, that was how their friendship bloomed. Well, no one in Hogwarts would have said that it was the good kind of friendship between the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw.
"AGRESTE!" Marinette bellows out as Adrien runs away from her again.
"Oh dude, she is so pissed right now!" Nino, Adrien's roommate, shouts as he runs with him.
"And let's keep it that way!" Adrien shouts back. They both turn to an empty corridor and slow down to catch their breath.
"T-Tell me what you did again to her." Nino asks whilst wheezing.
"You didn't notice? Her hair was the exact color as mine."
Nino chuckles as he rests his hands in his knees, taking deep breaths. "Why do you keep teasing her?"
"I don't know." Adrien simply answers, a smile starting to display on his features. "I love the fact that she keeps me in her thoughts, I guess."
And keeping him in her thoughts is true. Despite everything that the boy did to her, the girl's unconditional feelings for the boy stayed unwavering.
Her sudden affection towards the boy started when they were third years and Adrien suffered his first accident due to Quidditch. As a chaser, he was accidentally hit by his fellow teammate, causing him to lose balance and fall off his broom. Thankfully, at that time he was only flying 11 meters above ground so he did not really have a lot of injuries...maybe just a broken arm...and a broken ankle.
Marinette visited him every day at the infirmary that time and just with that smile of his that would welcome her every day, she wanted to always know that she caused him to smile that wide and bright. She didn't mind taking care of him at all. In fact, that was the exact thing she wanted to do forever.
After that event and Adrien was completely healed, Marinette decided to join Ravenclaw's Quidditch team and eventually became their seeker. She wanted to see and know first-hand how hard and challenging Quidditch can be, and she also wanted to make sure that Adrien was safe during his Quidditch matches. Every time it was a match against Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, Marinette made sure to not make herself clear as she would glance at Adrien from time to time. Although she was busy finding and chasing the golden snitch, she found time to watch Adrien play. Sometimes when the both of them find themselves near each other during a match, Adrien would always block Marinette's way making her lose sight of the golden snitch. He thinks that he is doing it discreetly but Marinette is never stupid enough to catch that triumphant smirk of his after every time she loses sight of the snitch.
But with every little thing that the boy would do with her, Marinette's feelings just kept on increasing especially when that boy always landed himself in the infirmary.
It was another day and another new lesson in Potions. What was odd was that Marinette has not seen Adrien ever since yesterday, when he left her at the field to play Quidditch. They were supposed to be spending their third class together but his seat at the front is still empty.
"Hey Rose," Marinette leans over and whisper to her seat mate who was busy taking down notes. "Do you know where Adrien is?"
"Loverboy?" Rose mutters, looking at her book and taking down notes at the same time.
Marinette is taken aback with the sudden utterance of that word. "W-What?" She stammers.
Rose closes her notebook and sighs before turning to her. "I mean what I said. You're looking for loverboy, right? Adrien?"
"Y-Yeah, I'm looking for Adrien...and he's not loverboy." Marinette quietly mutters the last part.
"I'll pretend that I didn't hear you lie about loverboy. Anyway, I heard that he decided to cut all his classes today."
"Cut?" Why would Rose know before me? Marinette thinks, He would always tell me if he wanted to cut classes.
"Why would he cut classes?" Marinette asks.
"Beats me." Rose turns her attention back to the Professor in the front. "You're his girlfriend. You should know why."
Marinette scoffs and looks at the Professor too. "I'm not his girlfriend..." She mumbles feeling disdained.
After class, Marientte decides to walk around the school with her thoughts revolving around Adrien and his whereabouts.
"Where in Merlin's name are you, Agreste?" She mutters to herself, looking at all the classrooms. "And you're giving me no choice but to go to your common room." She grumbles, heading to the Gryffindor common room.
With her Ravenclaw wit and with true ease, she never has a hard time figuring out the answer to the riddle of the Gryffindor common room.
And sometimes, the Gryffindors can also be too full of themselves. Just when you thought that only Slytherins were too proud, think again.
"The answer is easy," She says, looking bored at the Fat Lady. "It's Albus Dumbledore."
The Fat Lady astonishingly looks at her whilst opening the portrait. "How do you always get my riddles?" She asks.
"I think you should search for harder ones. You could find a million of those on what those muggles call the 'internet'. It's quite handy." Marinette answers, walking passed the portrait and entering the room.
The common room was packed with people sitting by the fireplace chatting or playing amongst themselves. Some were going up the stairs to head to their respective dorms. Some were staring at Marinette, a random girl from Ravenclaw who just entered the room. Some were even glaring at her! But Marinette did not mind them at all. Her only goal here was to look for Adrien and then she would leave. That was the plan. Except...
Where in Merlin's name is Adrien in here?
She was starting to slowly panic as she walked to the center of the common room and could really feel the stares of those who were around her.
She looked towards the couches and heaves a sigh in relief as she spots Nino, Adrien's comrade when it comes to pranking. He is sitting on the side of a couch and seems to be reading a book- something very unlikely of his character. Marinette storms off to him and grabs the book from him.
"Hey!" He exclaims, "You- Marinette?" His demeanor changes once he looks up at Marinette. "H-How in the world did you enter?"
"Where is Adrien?" She questions him. Nino's lips curve upward to form a smirk.
"Why? Missing your bedwarmer?" He cheekily asks, raising his eyebrows suggestively at her.
Marinette rolls her eyes in return and dismisses everything he said. "I have a letter from his father." She lies and it is what makes Nino turn serious. "And it's urgent."
"Ah bloody..." Nino murmurs. "We can't let his father know..."
"Know what?" She inquires. "Did Adrien do something bad?"
Nino sighs and points at himself. "Okay. I'm serious here. I have nothing to do with this. Adrien got hit by the bludger yesterday."
"What?!" Marinette shouts in surprise, causing some Gryffindors to look in their way. Nino tells her to keep quiet before he continues.
"Their team was playing a friendly match against the Slytherin team."
"Bloody Slytherins," Marinette curses. "Who has the audacity to think that they ever play friendly?"
"Tell me about it." Nino mumbles in agreement with her. "He's at the hospital wing right now. Please, I beg of you, please do not tell his dad about this!"
------------------
Marinette could not stop herself from grumbling out of annoyance and concern on her way to the hospital wing. "This Agreste! How can the best chaser of Gryffindor ever get hit by the bludger?!"
She enters the area and spots the blond boy lying on one of the beds by the right side of the wing. She stomps her way to the bed and upon reaching the edge of it, she folds her arms in front of her and looks at him impatiently. The boy tried to cower away from her glare but such actions have come to no use.
"Scold me all you want..." he sighs in defeat, ready for the dragon to breathe fire at him as punishment.
But what the girl says next surprised him beyond achieving his wildest dreams, "I hope you don't feel anymore pain."
"Yeah yeah, I'm really sorry for being careless-what? Y-You're not going to scold me?"
"I've been scolding you for too many times already." The girl simply says and takes a seat at the empty bed beside Adrien. "But Merlin, Agreste- What were you thinking?" Marinette continues, her brow furrowed in confusion.
"I couldn't let that second year be in my place right now." Adrien simply explains, "He was the one being targetted and I took the shot meant for him. But I'll be completely healed in a few hours."
"And why were you playing against the Slytherins?"
"They wanted a friendly match before the season started." He mumbles.
"Of course. You have a 'friendly' match with the 'friendly' Gryffindors against the 'friendly' Slytherins. Who knew that you were tightly bonded? What's next, tea parties?" She teases him and Adrien could not help to roll his eyes.
"I thought that they wouldn't be playing rough."
"When will they ever stop playing rough? They're Slytherins for Rowena's sake!" Marinette retorts. Then she takes a deep breath to collect herself. "But you really are a Gryffindor with that act you pulled there."
"Oh, so now you're one of my fangirls? Visiting me in the infirmary to ask for my autograph?" Adrien cheekily utters, sneaking in a flirtatious wink towards Marinette. The girl rolls her eyes at his childish behavior but turns away to also hide the blush forming in her cheeks.
"In Merlin's name, no." She answers, keeping herself distracted. "I'm here because your father will kill me if I didn't take care of you."
Adrien groans, his whole demeanor suddenly changing, and lies down with an arm over his head. "I swear by Merlin's beard, he should not know about this."
"Yeah, because you got seriously injured-"
"No." Adrien interjects. "It's because I got defeated by Slytherins. Those proud wizards and witches." He mutters.
Marinette couldn't stop herself from scoffing, "That's it?" Marinette was expecting more of a reasonable explanation.
"Mari, that's a big deal!" Adrien clarifies, feeling disappointed that Marinette does not seem to care about his pride and reputation.
"Just!" Marinette starts off sternly, but she has the sudden urge to now go soft on him. "...get well really soon, please." She continues, her voice a little above a whisper. "We got a match against each other in two days and honestly, it wouldn't be the same without you." She utters, truthfully.
"And I wouldn't lie if I would say that I enjoy going against you..." Adrien says in a soft voice. Suddenly he snickers, hoping to change the mood before he gets all flustered around Marinette. "Wish me luck for the match?"
"And why would I do that?" The girl spits out, hitting his arm lightly. "We're competing against each other, you fool. Let your girlfriend wish you some luck."
Adrien then thought of the perfect reply for Marinette, "Then be my girlfriend and wish me some luck."
"W-Wha...You can't just ask me like that! Merlin, at least ask in a nicer way!"
Adrien was surprised with her reply. He had this sudden feeling that the girl had the same feelings as him. "Wait. Does that mean..."
"Merlin. Shut it, Agreste." Marinette sneers whilst glaring at him.
"Why do you always have to call Merlin's beard whenever I'm around?" Adrien rolls his eyes. Just when we were enjoying our time together, we just had to ruin it. He thought.
She flicks his forehead, "Idiot, you're the one causing me to call him. Now get well soon and prepare for the match, chaser. I don't want to see you in this area again."
----------------
Breathe, Marinette. Just breathe...
How in the world could you breathe when you haven't caught the freaking golden snitch?!
Marinette could not calm down as she was losing her temper.
She has been flying for a long time already and up until now, both seekers are still looking for the golden snitch.
"Marinette, you only have one job." She mutters to herself maneuvering the broom, dodging some of the players and the quaffle and bludger at the same time. "You have to find the snitch!"
"Looking for something?" A voice cries out to her right. She glares at the person who just spoke to her.
"I've been waiting for you." She sarcastically mutters.
"Not doing a good job as a seeker, eh?" Adrien taunts.
Marinette has noticed that the both of them have kept a distance away from what is really going on below. It's normal for her job to stray away from the busy players, but Adrien shouldn't be with her at this moment. In fact, he should be scoring points for Gryffindor.
"Hey! Go back to being a chaser. Let me focus on my job!"
"Hey, Marinette! Maybe you're not looking the right way!" He shouts before flying back to where the match was really happening.
"That nuisance..." She mutters, watching him dodge the bludger on his way to score a goal for Gryffindor. "Show-off."
But she could shake off the feeling that the boy mentioned something important.
"He said, 'right way'. Then where in the world should I loo-" And upon turning to the right, lo and behold, there it was. The bloody golden snitch. She tries to find the Gryffindor seeker and sees that her way is beyond where the snitch was flying. Marinette now has the snitch all to herself and the other seeker still does not know where it is.
I have to thank Adrien later...secretly. She thought.
She flies to where the snitch was currently found but it moves and flies away as she nears it. With the sudden drive of determination and a stench of competition, she follows it-- not taking an eye off it.
Unfortunate for her, the golden snitch was heading back to the area where the heart of the match was happening. Now she would have to dodge such disturbances while trying to catch the snitch. She swoops down, building up speed as she follows the snitch. Behind her, the other seeker is flying and trying to also catch the snitch.
This is drastic. I have to dodge these sweaty players, be faster than the other seeker and catch the golden snitch.
She has just barely missed a hit from a bludger and now she has neared the snitch. With one hand she reaches out for the snitch, stretching her body forward to at least...be...a little...closer.
But near where the snitch was flying, she sees a bludger heading straight to an unaware Adrien. And just as she was about to shout at him to move away, the bludger hits him on the head, and he falls off his broom losing his consciousness. Many of the audience members have noticed what has happened to the Gryffindor chaser. Some were shouting for help whilst the others were cheering, hoping for something thrilling to happen.
Her priorities changed at that moment. Marinette really needs the snitch but she can't let her friend's life be put into danger. She brings her broom down and flies to the bottom at high speed, hoping to catch him.
She clenches her teeth as it was hard and tiring for her to maneuver her broom going down. Right beside her was the falling body of Adrien, and this times she reaches out to hold him. She has stretched her body to the side and tries to grab a firm hold on him.
But this was harder than catching the golden snitch.
So she does the unthinkable and jumps off her broom and immediately wrap her arms around Adrien. Now they both plummet to the ground with sure broken bones.
Out of panic, Marinette mutters spells that could maybe lessen the impact of the fall as they reach the ground. She holds to Adrien tightly as they are now nearing the ground. And she closes her eyes, knowing that she will be the first to land on the ground on her back.
With an unconscious Adrien engulfed in her arms, they both land on the ground in a loud thud.
----------------
Opening one's eyelids have never been so hard not until Marinette took a long time in doing so.
She had to force herself to exert so much effort in doing such a simple action. Finally, she has her eyes open and looks around the room. She finds herself at the hospital wing and Adrien is resting at the side of her bed, one hand of his intertwined with hers.
With her other hand, she hovers over his blond hair and gently tugs on it. The action causes him to be awake, and when he looks up he jumps on his feet. "You're awake!" He exclaims, eyes wide out of shock.
"I...I guess so." She croaks out, her voice hoarse due to the lack of water. Adrien immediately hands her a glass of water and she gulps it down, finishing it to the last drop. "How long have I been out?" She asks.
"Today's your seventh day." Adrien answers and Marinette's eyes must have bulged out of her eye sockets.
"Seven days?! A week?!"
"Technically, less than a week-"
"But still!" She interrupts and pulls off her blanket, "I have to get to class-"
"No!" Adrien utters pushing her back down to lying on the bed. "You are not yet allowed to be leaving this wing."
"But I'm awake! I'm fine!" She complain, hating the thought that she has been missing classes for days.
"Please, Mari." The boy begs and this stops the girl from going any further. "Let me take care of you for some more."
"O-Okay..." She agrees, feeling somewhat awkward with the sudden mood and aura. She plays with her fingers as Adrien looks away from her. "What do you want to talk abou-"
"Why did you jump to catch me?" He questions, leaving Marinette stunned.
"I don't want your father to know about how careless his son is." She meekly answers.
"And is that it?" Adrien turns his way back to Marinette. "You just jumped because you thought of father's scolding?"
The girl hesitates for a while before replying with another question. "Didn't I tell you that I don't want to see you hurt?" She whispers. "I could not imagine you hurt again. I care a lot for you, Adrien. And...maybe this is more than what a friend feels for another friend." Marinette looks down at her hands, her cheeks flushed and head reeling as she finally confessed her feelings to her best friend yet nemesis.
Adrien, on the other hand, could not stop himself from smiling. So it was never one-sided, he thought excitedly. "You've fallen off your broom and you've fallen for me, what's next?"
Marinette buries her face in her hands out if embarrassment. "Maybe I'll fall out of my feelings for you if I make you uncomfortable..." She mutters in regret.
"Impossible." He simply states.
She uncovers her face and looks at him in confusion, "And why's that impossible? It could happe-" She is interrupted by Adrien's lips on hers. He turns just a little to capture her lips some more. Marinette could not contain herself as she took the action by surprise and excitement. She brings a hand to the back of his neck and pulls him closer to her as Adrien started to nibble on her bottom lip. Adrien pulls back but Marinette sneaks another kiss on his lips before also doing the same.
"I'm not going to allow that to happen." Adrien whispers, capturing her lips with his once again.
