About 3,000 years ago lived a small family of three Mobians in a small vilage, one a hedgehog and the other two being his mate and daughter. One day the hedgehog's mate passed away from an uncurable disease leaving the hedgehog alone with his daughter.

The hedgehog was very depressed over his mate's death but kept his sadness from his daughter and only smiled around her. They lived happily for a few years until the hedgehog's daughter was the age of 8 when she too had gotten the same disease her mother had gotten.

Desperate to find any kind of cure for his dying daughter, the hedgehog left his daughter in the care of one of his friends while he went out to search far and wide for a cure which lead him to a witch's hut.

He begged the witch for anything until she finally gave in. She had told the hedgehog of the power of immortality and to bring his daughter back to her.

Overjoyed to hear this, the hedgehog rushed back to get his daughter but when he returned he had fought that she had already died.

After mourning for a few days, the hedgehog returned to the witch with his daughter's body and begged the witch for her to do something to help but she simply told him that she was far too gone to do anything.

Enraged by this, the hedgehog attacked the witch on the spot and soon killed her but before she could draw her final breath, the witch cursed the hedgehog with immortality.

The curse had transformed the hedgehog into a former shell of what he once was with blue markings on his body which he could move where they were, taking his left eye and cursing him with the power to take lives with just a simple touch.

Soon looking upon himself, the hedgehog was disgusted at his own reflection and tried to touch a simple flower for it only to shrivel up and die in his hand.

Then the hedgehog lost his mind from the depression hitting him all at once and cried and cried until his very soul was dead leaving him now as Mortem.
