Chapter 4
Lloyd's POV
"What are we grabbing?" Brad asks me. Brad, Gene, and I all sit in the van, dressed in all black, even up to our hands.
"Grab anything that looks of value; rings, other jewelry, antiques, etcetera, just not too much of anything," I order them. "We have to be quick, one trip in and out. This neighborhood has high security."
The three of us get out of our van, locking it behind us. I pull my hood up, concealing my face. We walk to the outside of a huge, gated house. No cars are in the driveway, and all the lights are off.
"Rich people, always on vacation," I roll my eyes. Bending over, I prop Gene and Brad over the gate. Brad then lifts Gene up, and they help pull me over the gate. With our heads down, we head to the back door. I wiggle the back door, but it doesn't budge. Out of instinct at this point, I dig my gloved hand into the potted plant next to me. Within seconds, I come out with a key.
"He's good," I hear Brad murmur to Gene. I stick the key in the lock, and it pops open, giving us access. The three of us rush into the house. As normal, Brad takes the bottom floor, Gene takes the second, and I take the third.
I run up the stairs and pull out the flashlight I was holding in my pocket. Once I enter the first room, I'm greeted with a giant screen and dozens of reclining chairs. It's an indoor movie theater. I run up to the projector. In the bucket underneath it, there's dozens of movies on film. I grab several of them, not even making a dent in the bucket.
I move onto the next room. A huge king sized bed sits in the center of the room. There are several dressers lining the walls. What catches my eye is the jewelry box on top of one of the many dressers. With fast steps, I walk over to it. It's covered in a thick layer of dust.
Slowly to avoid altering the layer of dust, I open the lid of the jewelry box. Dozens of bracelets, rings, earrings, and necklaces are coated in dust. Several gemstones are embedded in each individual accessory. I take a couple of each type, dropping them in my bag, and closing the box back up slowly.
I sweep through the rest of the upper floor, grabbing anything I see interest in. Several more piece of jewelry find their way into my bag along with about a dozen books from their massive library.
When I make it downstairs, Brad and Gene are both at the door. The three of us make our way out of the house, locking the door and putting the key back in the exact same place I found it. Scurrying around to the side of the gate, we help Gene get over before throwing the bags over to him. I help Brad over. Then, they help me get over. We head over to our van, throwing the bags in the back, and we hop in. All three of us take off our hoods as we start driving.
"I'll pawn this stuff tomorrow," I inform them.
Brad looks through each of the bags, "Will this be enough?"
I shake my head,"Not even close, but we're getting closer."
Gene shifts in his seat,"Well maybe if we grabbed more than just a little bit of their excess and actually got the big things like the flat screens and..."
"If we grabbed more than a bit of their excess then people would catch onto us. By grabbing a little at a time, we get the money from a variety of sources, and none have an idea we even touched their stuff," I snap at him. I learnt this strategy from my dad. While it takes significantly longer than a couple of big heists, it makes it so there's no cops watching us or extra protection.
Brad and Gene tend to want the immediate gratification that comes with the big steals. It's the patience that the smaller scale steals bring that pays off in the long run.
"Oh my gosh. It's like heaven. Gene, look!" Brad points across the car.
I turn my head. A large group of girls sit in a hot tub, all in bikinis, in the yard of one of the big houses. The pool was clearly designed to be seen from the street to gloat their wealth. Even from afar, I can spot the white hair that marks our cheerleading captain. I roll my eyes, "You guys are terrible. You act like you haven't seen a girl in a bathing suit, and that these aren't the girls who laugh as they walk past us."
"Come on, you can't say you wouldn't smash at least one of them if you had the chance. That new girl is reaaaally hot," Gene tells me.
I raise an eyebrow, "Actually, I wouldn't."
"I forgot, you're only attracted to darkness and evil," Brad teases me. Him and Gene are great to go on our little missions with, but terrible to hang out with.
"What's the address?" I ask, driving the car slowly.
"Why? Want to come by and watch once you drop us off?"
"Because this is Harumi's house, and if anyone has excess, it's her," once I say that, Brad jots down the address. I increase the speed once he finishes writing the address.
Exasperated, Gene throws his hands up in the air,"What the heck?"
I shrug,"It was an invasion of privacy."
"We rob houses! Nothing is more of an invasion of privacy than that!"
I ignore them the rest of the ride home. All I can think of is my dad, and how he would have yelled at Brad and Gene for saying those things. I need to live up to what he would do. I need to be the leader he was.

Skylor's POV
So far, the party hasn't been that bad. Harumi brought alcohol, but I haven't drank. The only weird thing was the black van that slowly drove by then all of a sudden sped off. It made my skin crawl.
If Kai thought my house was huge, he probably thinks Harumi's is gigantic. It has every luxury imaginable, like a bowling alley, an indoor pool, an outdoor pool, a private chef, a plethora of bedrooms, and even more I didn't see.
Harumi has been fairly nice to me tonight. Mackenzie has stayed by my side most of the night, chatting with me. She's been really nice. Chamille is more judgmental and stuck to Harumi's side.
Currently, we're sitting in the hot tub in her yard. It's in perfect view of the street, but no one seems to mind. Everyone is happy, and probably also drunk. They're all giggling and gossiping.
"Oh my gosh Skylor, you need the initiation. Don't worry, it's not bad," Harumi gets out of the jacuzzi, revealing her bathing suit that is significantly too small, obviously on purpose. A bathing suit that small seems hard to find because she's so dainty.
My heart pounds in suspense. After knowing Harumi for two days, I'm expecting something bad. Earlier, she made me the Instagram like she said, so "she could follow me", she claims. She was a bit nicer today, probably because I tried to convince her that she's better than me, but it's still not great.
Harumi walks over to me with a shot in her hand,"Drink this, and you're officially in."
"I don't drink," I tell her, setting the shot down.
"Don't be a buzzkill. Besides, you should get use to it. Parties are so much more fun when you drink," Harumi urges me. Everyone is looking at me, waiting for me to.
I went into tonight telling myself I wouldn't do anything stupid. Several times, I looked myself in the mirror and told myself I wouldn't compromise anything I believe in for anything else. One of those things is not drinking before I'm 21.
"It'll make high school so much more fun," Chamille urges me. Impulsively, I lift the small glass to my mouth and swallow the alcohol. It burns my throat, but also gives me a small buzz. The rest of the girls cheer.
"Okay, now it's time to play truth or dare," Harumi announces. The girls cheer again and lean back in the jacuzzi.
---
We're deep in the game now. Everyone is more relaxed and open. I haven't been asked anything too intense. They just know now that I'm completely inexperienced in everything that comes with boys, but that's kind of obvious.
A decent amount of the girls went in the pool, so there's only a small number of girls left in the game. It's only myself, Faith, Mackenzie, Harumi, and Chamille.
"Harumi, truth or dare?" Chamille asks her. She considers both.
"Truth."
"Who is the most underrated hot guy in the school? Like, not the Kai's and the Coles, but the type that people don't really think of," she asks.
Harumi's eyes widen. "You all agree not to laugh?" We all nod. "Lloyd Garmadon. I know he's a year younger and is a bit off, but you can't deny that he's gifted in the looks department. I tried to get with him during sophomore year, and he shot me down. His loss though."
All of the other girls seem shocked by it. I don't know who Lloyd is, but it's clear he isn't in the group.
"He's so not your type!" Faith exclaims.
Harumi takes a sip of her drink, "He's a bit leaner than I'd prefer, and it'd be a crime for him to actually smile, but there's potential there. He's got nice hair. Now Skylor, truth or dare?"
"Truth," I respond with the immediate response, especially since it's Harumi asking me.
"Would you ever date Kai?" she asks immediately, not even needing to think about it.
Would I ever date Kai? He seems nice, and he's definitely not lacking in the looks department. It would also be fun being able to say I dated the football captain.
On the other hand, he's the type of guy lots of the girls want. He'd constantly be getting flirted with. Plus, I don't know if I even want a relationship in high school. It's an experience, but I also need to focus on school itself.
"If he liked me, I probably would," I answer honestly. Harumi sighs.
"I'm going to save you a lot of heartache here. Don't date Kai. I'm just on a break with him, and he comes running back each time I want him. He just goes for filler girls in between, and I don't want that for you," she advises me, but I can't tell if she's telling the truth. I look over at Mackenzie who nods in agreement.
"Thanks you for telling me, Harumi," I tell her.
"It's nothing, Sky. It's easy for you not to know. Your turn to ask."
"Mackenzie, truth or dare?"
"Truth."
"You were telling me about the guy you like earlier. Who is it?" I ask her.
She lets out a long sigh. "It's Cole. We've made out at the past like...five parties, but each time I think that there could be something there, I see him crying over Nya and trying to get her back."
"He needs to get over her already. It's been two years. I know she was flexible, but she couldn't have been that good in bed to still want her after this long," Harumi puts in her thoughts on Mackenzie's response. My eyes widen in response, and I have a realization.
Not a single one of the people in this group is inexperienced. If I did get together with Kai, I wouldn't be his first anything. He would have already done everything with Harumi. I'd be a terrible kisser, and he'd sweep me off my feet as if he'd done it hundreds of times because he literally would have already Donne it hundreds of times.
"Faith, truth of dare?"
"Truth." Harumi rolls her eyes at yet another truth.
"Who do you think is an underrated hottie?" she recycles an old question.
Faith thinks about it for a minute. "Probably Jay Walker. I know he literally can't get a sentence out in front of people, but just...ignore that."
"I saw him talking with Nya in my speech class today. She was laughing at something he said. Like...actually laughing. It was scary to not see her not mopey. They don't talk outside of class though. I think they only talk because they're both lonely," Chamille tells the group. They all seem shocked.
In my opinion, they obsess over Nya way to much. She clearly doesn't care about them anymore, but they can't last ten minutes without saying her name. It's unhealthy.
"Harumi, truth or dare?"
"Dare, I'm tired of all the truths," she answers without hesitation.
Faith gets a smirk on her face,"So you get get closer with your hidden hottie Lloyd Garmadon, I dare you to join the Sons of Garmadon."
Harumi's eyes widen, and she spits her drink out. "You can't dare me to join a gang!"
"You are the queen of 'no dare is too much'," Chamille mimics her. Harumi huffs.
"Fine, I'll join it for a single week. Then, I'll quit," Harumi sighs, leaning back. "I need another drink."
