Chapter 4

Chapter 4: Host Club Adventures: Let's go Skiing! (Part 1)

"A ski resort?" I asked.
"Yes, a ski trip!" cheered Honey.

"While winter is the time for cold, it can also be a time for fun in the snow." Tamaki daydreamed. "Imagine it, you can bundle up from the cold, then you can sit next to each other in front of the fire. You snuggle in close, and maybe, you lock eyes and—"

"Stop with your weird daydreams, Senpai." Haruhi deadpanned.

Tamaki screamed, and flew off into the corner to sulk.

"So are you coming?" Kaoru asked, pulling me from watching another episode of Tamaki's soapbox.
"No, I don't like the cold," I explained. "Plus it's not like I have the funds for a trip."
"Well this is more of a club vacation, and as a club member you are required to go." Kyoya stated.

"Wait," Haruhi interrupted. "That doesn't mean I'm required to go; does it, Kyoya-senpai?"
"Why yes it does, Haruhi." he smiled.

A shiver ran down my spine at his slightly sinister smile.

A demon. I thought.

"Yay, family trip!" cheered Tamaki.

*^*^*^*^*

"It's unnecessarily cold!" I shivered, pulling my coat closer together.

"Hey, don't be a downer." Kaoru laughed, slinging his arm around my shoulder.

I groaned.

I looked over and noticed his arm wasn't in a sling anymore.

"So have you healed?" I asked, motioning towards his arm.

He moved it around, stretching it.
"Yeah, it's better. Still sore occasionally."

"Oh," I murmured. "I'm glad you're better."

"I agree, it is cold." Haruhi sighed, stepping up next to me.

I ran ahead of them, bursting through the door of the resort.

The rest came in shortly after.

I looked around.

It was truly extravagant. There were multiple fireplaces, butlers moved around the area, several expensive looking sofas were neatly set around the fireplaces, these were accompanied by multiple matching chandeliers and the walls were decorated with different pictures and light fixtures.

"Wow." I muttered in surprise.
"This is one of my family's many resorts. We pride ourselves in extravagance." Kyoya stated, closing his books.

"Wow senpai, this place really is extravagant!" Haruhi awed.

Honey ran around with his arms outstretched giggling.

"Hey Nanami-chan~! Isn't this place cool?" he giggled.

"Yeah, it really is." I answered absentmindedly.

Kyoya gave me a small smirk causing me to grow quiet.

"So, what are the sleeping arrangements?" I asked.
"Oh yes. What are the arrangements, Kyoya?" Tamaki agreed.

"We will be sleeping together." The twins smiled.
"I will bunk with Mori!" Honey cheered.
"And I with my darling daughter, Haruhi." Tamaki cheered.

"No way." Haruhi deadpanned.
"But why?" Tamaki cried.

"What a sick pervert." Hikaru smirked.

"What? No! You've got it all wrong," Tamaki stammered, hysterically trying to explain. "It's normal for a daughter and a father to share rooms together! Right? Right!"

"Yes, well we will be able to suit all those room needs. Each room will be connected to each other through the living room." Kyoya explained, flipping through his book. "I will be rooming alone out of personal preference."

"Lucky." I sighed.

"Well this does leave one single room." Kyoya chimed in.
"Then I will room with Haruhi!" Tamaki announced.

I saw the look of annoyance on Haruhi's face.

"No, no. I will room with Haruhi. Pervert." I said.

Haruhi gave me a smile of thanks.

"Well now that we have that done. Let's go to our rooms."

I stepped into our room and looked around. It was extravagant as the rest. I set my stuff down and laid across the bed.

"It's so warm," I announced. "I don't want to leave here!"
"I agree." Haruhi sighed, sitting down on her bed.

There was a knock and before I could answer the host club barged in.

"Ever hear of knocking?" I groaned.
"We did knock." Kaoru chimed in.
"You didn't even let us answer."
"What do you want?" asked Haruhi.
"We are going skiing!" Honey smiled.
"Nope. I'm staying in the warmth." I stated, burying myself in the blankets.

It got quiet and I let out a sigh, figuring they left. That was until someone pulled me out of bed and over my shoulder.

"Mori, put me down." I groaned.

"No I can't, Nanami." Mori answered.

That's the first time he called me by name. I thought, slightly pleased.

Mori set me down at the top of the ski slope.
"Why must I be here? I don't even know how to ski!" I groaned, shivering at the cold.

"That's okay! We'll teach you Nanami-chan!" Honey smiled.

*^*^*^*^*

Several lessons later...

"I'm unteachable!" I sighed in defeat.

I sat down on the bench.

Everyone tried to teach me, but I've failed so many times. For cat-like reflexes, I sure lack in skiing.

Hikaru stood in front of me with his arms crossed, looking away from me.

"Come on." Hikaru sighed.

I looked up at him surprised. "You're going to help me?" I asked confused.

"Well everyone else tried to teach you and failed. I'm you're only hope right?" he sighed, pulling me up from the bench.

He took me over an empty spot near the slope.

"Okay, so first you need to place your feet like this." he explained, getting into a position.

I mirrored his stance.

He then went to explain how to push off, steer, and the most important, how to stop. He made it a lot easier to understand.

This was the first time he talked to me since the encounter. It has been awkward since then, I've practically avoided him. I figured he hated my guts.

"I did it!" I cheered as I managed to steer down the beginner's slope.
"This is only the beginners' slope." He stated.
I pouted and crossed my arms.
"I guess, you didn't too bad." He sighed.
"Thank you." I smiled.

*^*^*^*^*

A couple hours later...

"You sure did learn fast." Kaoru smiled as we walked back to our rooms.
"Hikaru was a good teacher." I said, awkwardly.
"Yes! Good job, Hikaru!" Tamaki cheered.

We reached our doors and split off.

"Good night guys." I yawned.

I walked with Haruhi into our room, tossing my coat on the bed.

Haruhi walked back into the room from changing.

"Man, I'm beat. Good night, Nanami." Haruhi called, laying down in bed.
"Good night. I'm going to go change." I said, heading to the bathroom.

I pulled on the clothes and a hat. I glanced down at my wrist.

"No." I said.

I felt around my pockets and quickly went out to my bed and searched the pockets of my coat.

No, no, no, no. I can't have lost it. I thought.

It was the only thing left by my mom; I can't lose it.

"I have to go find it." I thought, sliding on my coat and boots.

I quietly snuck out of the bedroom, closing the door behind me.

I quickly hurried down the hall to the outside. It was snowing outside, heavier than normal. I could barely see in front of me. I pulled my coat closer to my face and trudged through the snow.

I stood at the slopes, shivering. It was freezing out by the time I reached them. I squinted, trying to look at my feet.

"Where is it?" I cried out in frustration.

I moved down the hill, trying to keep my footing. I was starting to lose feeling in my hands as I sifted through the snow.

It all happened in slow motion. I lost my footing, rolled down the hill hitting my head in the process. My vision blurred as I tried to lift myself up.

I couldn't move. It was so cold.

I'm sorry, Mom. I couldn't find it...
