Back in the closet
They spent the rest of the day walking around the town, talking. Sans continues to look around, but at times he gets lost in conversation with Toriel, talking about common interests. They even shot each other jokes at times, both laughing by the end of each one. Sans' jokes always got old with Ralsei and Papyrus, so with someone so interesting and with her jokes, Sans couldn't help but bond with her. He even gave her a small nickname, after Toriel let him use it. He almost forgot to talk to her about the darkener realm as he talked, asking Toriel when he did remember. Toriel was confused though, and it was clear that she did not know the realm, so Sans put the topic aside for another time.
There weren't as many threats as Sans imagined, he rarely thought of them. The Light World was so peaceful, at least the town was. He imagined more action, but these moments were ones he was glad to have.
Sans and Toriel walked at the edge of town by the end of the day, the sun slowly started to set. Sans didn't even realize the time that had passed.
"Thanks for showing me around Tori, I really appreciate it." The skeleton smiled up at the goat monster, sitting down on the nearby bench.
"Oh of course! Better than to leave you at the school..."
"Heh, yeah, I really was a 'bone head' to pop up there, heh." Sans grinned and chuckled, Toriel letting out a small giggle at the pun. He already found a way to explain his sudden appearance there, saying he probably was practicing some magic and pushed too much. Toriel seemed to believe him.
"Well, I probably should be heading home, it's getting quite late... I have someone to go back to. Sans, are you going to be able to find your way home?" Her tone changed to one of slight concern, Sans nodding a bit.
"Oh yeah, I can find my way back... don't worry 'bout me, I'll be fine." He smiled at her, leaning back on the table.
"Well, if you're sure... be careful still, alright?"
"Don't worry, I will. I'll see you around." Toriel nodded and gave Sans a quick hug, smiling softly. She waved as she walked off back towards the center of the town, Sans staying where he was until she was gone.
With the sun now setting, he assumed it must have been a few hours since he was gone, he needed to get back. Getting up, he looked around to avoid anyone as he headed back to the school, the only place he can guess he can return to. The night fell quickly, Sans looking up at the sky when he got to the school. Small lights and pinprick appeared in the dark, light that happens even in the dark. He forgot what they were called. He made a note to himself to ask Toriel if he saw her again. Taking a deep breath, he headed into the school, quietly closing the door behind him.
He walked towards the closet door, where he woke up. Hopefully his way back. He took another deep breath as he placed his hand on the doorknob and opened the door.
Through the door was complete darkness, nothing seen from the outside. Wind started to blow past Sans, the skeleton grinning a bit as he headed in, closing the door behind him. Please bring me back, he thought.
He stayed in the closet for a while, nothing happening. The wind kept blowing, but the walls remained, the shelves stayed still, the paper on the ground seeming unchanging as well.
"...Guess I shouldn't have hoped too much." He sighed, his voice echoing in the room. For sure, nothing changed, Sans turning back to the door to leave.
But the door was gone.
Wide-eyed, Sans knocked where the door was, a wall in its place. He panics a bit, banging on the wall. Then the floor started to shake violently, the paper on the ground shaking with them and moving. The skeleton panicked more, holding on to the shelves to stabilize himself. He tried to find anything else, any other change he could prepare for.
He didn't prepare for the floor suddenly falling into the dark.
