Chapter One

I woke up and immediately pulled at the heavy chains with all of my strength. The chains choked me as I pulled slower and moved forwards for more strength. I growled as I was now on my hind legs as far as I could go. Choking and coughing forced me to stop.

"Your not getting out of here..." Someone growled across from me. "Not alive anyway..." Another corrected next to them.

I snarled and ignored them, pulling against the chains again.

"I'm not one to give up so easily. I need to get back to Millenia and... Woobie..." The thought of his warm bright fur and his beautiful eyes seemed to make me angrier and more anxious to escape. His handsome laugh. His strong build... I threw myself opposite of the chains, letting out a hoarse cough as the collar slammed against my throat with great force.

"If you don't stop that you will kill yourself." They seemed to ignore my eagerness...

I stopped, my head throbbing.

"Who are you. Both of you?" I sat down, my back against the wall.

"I am Tryton and this is my brother, Fang." Two Dobermans stepped out into the light that streamed down, being the room's only light source. They stared at me, waiting on my identity to be revealed. I stepped forwards.

"I'm Rei. I need to get out of here. I am a stray and I need to be with my friends - where I belong." I growled, ready to try again though my voice was hoarse from my last attempt. Before I could do anything, the heavy metal door swung open.

Tryton and Fang backed out of the light and huddled against the brick wall. As a human dumped slop into their bowls, I started barking. He turned to me and tried to hush me. I growled lowly before barking more and getting louder. He raised his hand at me and I still continued, not afraid of being hit by a human.

"SHUT UP!" He roared and punched me in the jaw. I yelped in pain and blood dripped onto the ground in front of me. Looking at the man's fist, I noticed his knuckles were lightly splattered with blood and he had on a large ring. I raised up on my hind legs and barked more, acting like I was at the end of my chain.

"Go on, get in my face, I dare you!" The man stepped closer, barking more and more swear words at me, getting his face into mine. When he got close enough, I grabbed his nose in between my canine teeth. I slammed his head to the ground and pinned him.

He struggled and screamed as my fangs began to tear at his face, avoiding the parts that would kill him. Soon, two more men came to his rescue. One had a steak and a sharp stick. The other had a pair of gloves on and something made of rope. Grabbing the man I had pinned down's arm, I dragged him away from the other two. My eyes watered as he did strong blows to my muzzle with his free arm.

The man with a stick punched my side, making me let go and snap at him. As I did, he shoved the stick in my mouth and put me in a headlock. As he pulled me to the ground, the third man slipped the rope thing around my muzzle, tied it, and then backed away, him and his partner dragging their friend out of my reach. I snarled, unable to bark or bite them with the thing on. I soon recognized it as a cheap muzzle. I growled at them as they left the room, glaring at me fiercely.

"Wow, you put up an amazing fight there..." Tryton barked in a laugh. I nodded and murmured through the muzzle between pants, "...Be afraid... Rise up.... Right..." Fang translated what I said and repeated it for his brother to hear, "Don't be afraid to rise up for what you believe is right." I nodded to approve that is what I stated.

"Good fight, but you have no clue what you just got yourself into..." Fang warned me. I tilted my head, not sure what he meant. He shook his head and they both backed up against the wall as the man that had put the muzzle on me entered and began my way.

My fur bristled along my spine and I lowered my head, growling viciously. He didn't look happy at all, really. But I wasn't either, so I didn't care.

"Don't even think about it. You can't hurt me with that thing on." He got closer and closer before taking off my collar and flipping me onto my back. I was snapping and snarling and doing everything I could to be aggressive in anyway.

He slipped these sock-like things on my paws. I assume they are to keep me from scratching him.

"Quite a determined one, aren't ya?" He chuckled before letting me onto my feet and backing away.

Keeping my fur bristled, I stared at him watching his every move. He then put my collar back on with a leash attached to it. He unhooked the chains from the wall and wrapped them around my neck to form a collar and a leash that I couldn't break. He held onto both tightly and tried to lead me out of the room. I turned back at Fang and Tryton as they made a movement for me to go. I nodded and stood up, fur still bristling and followed him out of the room.

"Soon she won't be against us." I heard one of the men mumble as he tended the previous person's wounds I had given him.

"That or she will be too broken and will end up useless like Tryton and Fang's sister." I perked my ears at his statement as he slipped a larger collar around my chest. One with a box on the outside.

He held a remote of some sort in the opposite hand and dragged me outside, I refused to do anything more, so I sat down. He pressed the button and nothing happened. He turned a knob and pressed it again, but a tingling sensation was all that happened. Frustrated, the man turned the notch again and pressed the button. I jumped up as a very uncomfortable pain shot through my neck, making me yelp lightly.

"This is a shock collar, and anything I want you to do and you don't, will give me a reason to press the button." I growled under the muzzle in annoyance at his words.

"Now that we are on understanding terms, sit." I did as I was told and sat down and shook my fur. Easy. "Lay down." What? Does he think I'm an idiot? I laid down on the ground.

"Stand back up." I grunted and stood up. He patted my head and stroked my pelt. I instinctively wagged my tail. I stopped it as soon as I could and pulled away.

"Your instincts of being a dog wish you to be petted, but your brain tells you it is not allowed and that you cannot be tamed. Your nature of being wild and a stray is why you are so mean and tough."

"What are you, a canine shrink?" I growled and sat down.

"No, but I had a dog once, she was just like you. Except she was Tryton's sister..." I perked my ears and got into a defensive stance.

"You can... understand me. Why? Explain." I growled again.

"I have a little... gift. I can understand certain canines." He brought his hand up to my face. I jerked away again.

"You do want your muzzle off, yes?" I stood still as he untied it. I stared at him and looked him in the eyes. A voice broke the silence and I snapped my head over to see one of the other men.

"Lucas, why isn't she doing the same thing to you as she did to Mason?" He began forwards. When I noticed what was in his hand, I started barking and snarling loudly, pulling against the chains.

He backed up, the knife that was covered in blood raised up defensively.

"Put the knife on the ground, now!" Lucas yelled.

"Then get torn to shreds by this beast? No!"

"Daniel, trust me and do it!" He did with quite a bit of hesitation. When it left his hands, I barked, "Why does he have a knife covered in dog blood?!" And started snarling.

"Dan, why is that knife covered in blood?" Lucas pulled on my chains and I sat down, my muzzle was still curled in a snarl and I stared at Daniel.

"Benny was freaking out and foam rolled out of his mouth, so I had to put him down." He looked at me and relaxed. He breathed, "When did you suddenly become good with dogs? That Demon hasn't been out here for more than five minutes with you."

"My name is Rei!" I growled at him threateningly.

"Her name is Rei."

"Well, Rei is now your responsibility to train. And when her training is done, she will be a good help to our group and can get us a lot of money." He spat my name out in disgust and walked back inside, leaving the knife on the ground.

"Back to your training, shall we?" He took the chains and pulled them and to a large bridge-like beam.

"Climb across this and when you get half way, try and go the rest of the way on your hind legs. Then come back and repeat."
