Chapter 8 - Someone Ate the Spiritual Fox!

His Lordship was definitely not happy.

This was what Zhong Lin and Si Ming both concluded as soon as he immediately went to his chambers without even looking at the spiritual carps in the pond. When he had his tea, it wasn't even properly steeped yet before he chugged the whole cup.

Not mentioning the Buddhist scrolls which were not even rolled back properly, then yes, His Lordship was definitely angry.

But to whom?

Which talented entity had the talent to anger their Lordship and not get skinned for it?

But looking back, Chong Lin and Si Ming only knew of one person who had the ability to do that.

Her Highness Bai Feng Jiu of Eastern Qing Qiu.

But now was not the time to be angry.

There is an auspicious event that has happened in the skies above Qingyun Hall, the hall of Yehua's son. The moon had risen so high right above the hall, and the howls of wolves could be heard from all over the Nine Heavens.

Unexpectedly, when he arrived there, A-Li had a terrified expression on his face, clutching on the robes of Bai Qian and burying his face on her collar, and would not go anywhere near his hall, saying someone ate his little fox.

When they went inside, they could understand why. There is a child inside, much younger than A-Li, probably with the appearance of a three year old mortal, who is huddled in A-Li's bed, covering himself with a quilt. His eyes were red, and his aura screamed power, surrounding the boy and pushing everyone that tried to go near him.

Feng Jiu arrived then, with her usual uncaring demeanor. A-Li wept and sobbed, apologizing over and over again to his big sister that he failed her, that someone ate the little fox, but Feng Jiu smiled and hugged A-Li, caressing his hair, temporarily calming down the boy. "You don't need to apologize, A-Li," she smiled, caressing the boy's cheeks. "In fact, I am very happy today. And it's all because of you."

"A-Li doesn't understand," replied the Little Dough. "Why would jiejie be happy when the little fox is killed?"

Feng Jiu held out her hand. "Come with me?" but the Little Dough fiercely shook his head so Feng Jiu patted his head. "It's okay. It's normal to be afraid."

A loud explosion turned their attention back to the hall.

"Silly boy," was the first thing Feng Jiu said when she stepped foot inside the hall. "You finally regained your human form, and the first thing you do is blow things up that belong to your benefactors?"

The boy fiercely glared at her, snarling, exposing his canine teeth. "Who are you? Speak!"

"Feng Jiu!" Dong Hua chastised when she took a step forward.

"It's all right, Dijun. This child will not be able to hurt me," she took another step forward. "Fenrir," she held out her hand. The aura around the boy wavered. "Don't be afraid. Come here. Let me see you," she beckoned him.

The boy did not move.

Seeing that Feng Jiu looked calm, Dong Hua raised a hand to ease the others from attacking. He looked back just in time to see Feng Jiu tilt her head. "You really don't recognize me, child?"

The boy did not answer. "You have just recovered your human form. It will do you no good to keep attacking them. You will only exhaust your magical essence," she told him. That did not ease the boy a little bit, so she moved closer. "Little Wolf, just do as I say."

The aura dropped a tremendous amount. With shaky steps, the boy got himself off of the bed and shakily trodded towards Feng Jiu. "Teacher, is that you?" he sobbed and Feng Jiu caught him in her arms, cradling his head like a babe. "What's happening? Why am I a child? Where is Jor? He was in front of me when we received the attack. I worry for him."

"Hush now, child," she cooed, tightening the quilt around his frame. "Sleep it off first, and I will answer your questions once you have woken," she stood up, carrying him in her arms, affectionately petting his hair. "You have suffered, indeed."

"My Lady, how is the Prince?" Cheng Jiao greeted her with this question once she stepped outside.

"Tired," she answered. "But his essence is stable, nonetheless. Prepare a Core Reformation Bath once we get back. He is in dire need of it," Cheng Jiao immediately nodded and left as quickly as he could.

The guards in Heavenly Palace are quick to surround her before she can even get to the gate. "You are scaring him," Feng Jiu tells them as she pets the child's hair, dampening the aura he released. "Rest assured, Tianjun. Whatever this child does, I will take responsibility for it."

Feng Jiu refrained herself from sneering when she saw the look of barely hidden greed in Hao De's eyes. 'How exactly did an idiot like him end up sitting on the throne of the Heavenly Lord?' his incompetence had made her question Dong Hua's sanity more than a few times she could count when he chose the imbecile as his successor.

Fenrir had appeared, bringing with him auspicious events. It would make sense if Hao De wanted to claim him as one of the Celestial Tribe's. Feng Jiu hid the smirk wanting to appear on her lips. If he wanted to draw Fenrir to his side, he would do more than just spoil him with things.

Even the Allfather had agreed to let himself be lowered to a mount one particularly bad day when Loki and Angrboda were not around. Hela was away for some business in the Underworld, Jormungand was out on an expedition with Thor, and they didn't even think to ask of Sleipnir because what would an eight-legged horse know and do? And she had been in her domain in the Northeast that time because of one particularly whiny child that was not Fenrir.

Of course, it took a lot of persuasion from Frigga which made the proud Allfather cave. But these Celestial Tribe, would rather hang themselves than do such a thing. The master of the universe reducing himself to carrying a child on his back on his knees? Preposterous!

In the end, because Hao De still remembered her previous bone-chilling deeds, he let Fenrir stay by her side and even let them use the Hot Springs of the Supreme Lord of Purity.

If she was grateful, she barely let it show, because she was far more worried about the de-aged prince to care for them.

It takes more than a week to prepare a Core Reformation Bath, so the Hot Springs will do for the meantime.

Without further ado, she was already walking swiftly towards the Spiritual Hot Spring.

Bai Qian and the others were still in a state of shock by the time Feng Jiu had left. After all, who would not be stupefied at the sight of the apathetic queen holding a child to her chest?

It was A-Li who brought her out of her reverie, asking if they should follow his Feng Jiu Jiejie. Because Bai Qian was still speechless due to the shock, Ye Hua took A-Li in his arms and urged her to rest.

"No," she shook her head. "I have to know who the child is or I won't be at peace. I'm going after Feng Jiu," she told them.

'So that fox...' she had been happy when Feng Jiu gave A-Li the white spiritual fox, because she thought it would be the start to repairing their broken relationship that she had always been guilty of.

Like her, Feng Jiu was also the same. Feng Jiu, after all, was raised by her.

She drew a clear line between love and hate. There was no in-between. She was pretty sure Dong Hua Dijun was already on the side of hate. If she too was, she wouldn't blame her.

But why?

Why give A-Li the spiritual fox?

If she gave A-Li the fox because she wanted it to gain human form, in what way did she want it to obtain it?

She had never seen any spiritual deficiencies in A-Li. She was always by her son's side. Of course, except when Lian Song would take him to the 13th level to play...

So that was it.

The 13th level has a vast and dense spiritual essence. A-Li often went to play in Tai Chen Palace because of Lian Song, so Feng Jiu took advantage of that.

But what was so important with the little fox?

Was it even a fox all along?

Bai Qian didn't know anymore. She was torn between being angry at her niece for using her cousin like that, or having a heart-to-heart talk with her, something they haven't done in millenias already.

She wasn't even sure if they even had a proper talk as family.

She finds Feng Jiu in the Lord of Supreme Purity's Hot Springs, eyes closed in concentration, her aura which is brilliant red pooling at a steady pace from her pores being directed to the child in front of her.

Bai Qian hastened her steps, only to be blocked at the entrance of the Springs by a powerful barrier.

Not even her power can break it.

Just how did her niece get so powerful?

::::::::::::::::::::

Welp, so from the recent chapters, you learn that Feng Jiu & co. plan to make Fenrir stay in the Nine Heavens, and it is for this very specific reason, helping Fenrir obtain his human form. Before that, no, Mythology Fenrir does not have any human form, the human form here is just for spazz, and yes, in this story, Loki's other children have their own human forms...

... except for Sleipnir.

Sorry Sleipnir. He is still Loki's child, and Odin's steed.

If anyone is wondering what Sleipnir looks like, he is an eight-legged horse.

While we're on that, with the giantess Angrboda, Loki is the father of Hela, Fenrir, the wolf, and Jormungand, the world serpent. In the previous chapters, I already told you that Nari and Vali were his sons with his wife, Sigyn.

Sleipnir was the result of one-night chase between Loki and a stallion Svadilfari. This happened when Loki wanted to prevent Svadilfari from finishing building Asgard Wall. Loki in disguise as a mare seduced Svadilfari to distract the stallion from finishing its task. As a result, a little horse was brought to life. Sleipnir was his name. And in fact, Loki was the mother of Sleipnir horse. Yes, Loki was the mother! Sleipnir horse then was given to Odin the Allfather by Loki. Sleipnir was a true treasure as he could travel not only on land but also over the sea and through the air. Odin rode Sleipnir into the battle of Ragnarok where he met Wolf Fenrir.
