Chapter 06
When I was about to go to the room carrying Chloe in my arms, Christian called me which made me stop.
"Isabella, Come to the dinning room after making Chloe sleep." Christian said casually as if there was nothing happened between us a few minutes ago.
I turned around and looked at him with furrowed brows.
"Why?" I questioned as I knew there would be a reason behind this sudden invitation.
Chloe giggled at me, speaking on his behalf. "To eat, Bells. What do we do other than that in the dining room?"
I looked at him and he smirked at me giving me a isn't-it-obvious look and made his way to the dining room.
"Okay, Dolly! Now it's your bed time." I said and she pouted, shaking her head.
"No.. I too want to join with you.." she whined.
"But you already had your-"
"Please..." she pleaded with her puppy dog eyes.
"Alright!" I sighed in defeat and she waved her hands in the air dramatically.
Then I entered into the dining room carrying Chloe in my arms. Christian was sitting in the front seat of the dining table, already eating his dinner peacefully.
I stopped at the last chair of the dining table row and when I was about to pull it, Chloe stopped me.
"Why are you sitting here? There are so many empty chairs beside dad. Let's go and sit there." she suggested.
"No, we can't. I mean, I can't." I refused and put her down. "If you want, you can go and eat with your dad."
She frowned after hearing my response but she wrapped her tiny hand around my wrist and said. "Dad is not a ghost! Just come with me."
Ghost is far better, I guess.
She dragged me to the front seat and having no choice I followed her behind without uttering a word. Then I stopped in the mid-way which made her turn around at me.
"What now, Bells?"
I bent down to her level and whispered. "Shall we sit across Christian instead of sitting beside him? Please?"
She tried to control her laughter, nodding and I sighed in relief. Then we walked passing by Christian's seat and pulled the chair which was across him and I lifted Chloe and placed her on the table before sitting down.
Christian raised his head up a little and gave me a look which asked for an explanation. "Actually, Dolly.. I mean.. Chloe said she wants to-"
Before I could finish the sentence, he said "Fine!" and resumed eating.
I rolled my eyes at him for having so much of attitude but smiled at Hayden who was standing behind Christian and I was glad that he somehow returned it back.
I felt awkward to eat infront of the house workers because even I was also an ordinary worker like them and I didn't have any rights to eat with Christian Roberts but as the invitation was given by him, I couldn't help.
Chloe crossed her legs and looked at me so I tried to start up a conversation with her until the worker would serve my food.
"So.. how's your vacation?" I asked.
"Vacation? What vacation?" Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Why? Doesn't your pre-school give you any holidays?" I asked, resting my chin on my palm and she looked at Christian and gestured at him to explain me.
He sighed before placing his fork down on his plate and looked at me.
"She hasn't joined the pre-school yet." he responded, grabbing the glass of water.
"But why? She is five-"
"I didn't say she doesn't go, I said she didn't join." he clarified which made me more confused.
"What do you mean by that?" I questioned and before replying to my question, he popped a spoonful of cheese pasta into his mouth.
"We lived in USA and two right?" he looked at Hayden, tilting his head and he nodded and then Christian turned back to me and explained. "And we came here two weeks ago only."
"So.. are you an American?" I asked wide-eyed.
"You think I'm an American?" he questioned back with a strong British accent.
"Well, duh. Because you're faking it." I lied just to annoy him and he gave me a mocking glare but didn't say anything to prove it.
"So.. is Chloe a British too?" I questioned curiously and he nodded, eating another spoon of pasta.
"Then why did you come back here now?"
He looked up at me and I could see his lips curling into a smirk. "You are nosey, aren't you?"
I bit my inner cheek, keeping my mouth shut after receiving a great compliment from him. Note the sarcasm please.
However today he had spoken something about his life that I didn't know, so I should thank God for giving me a free trial on Christian's subscription package.
"So you agree that you're nosey?" he questioned in an amused tone, wiping his hands with the serviette.
"I didn't agree."
"But you didn't deny either." he retorted and I rolled my eyes. Then he stood up and ruffled Chloe's hair. "Good night Pebbles."
"Good night daddy!" She said in a sing song voice.
He exited the place with Hayden behind him but the smirk he sent over my direction before leaving didn't go unnoticed.
Isn't it weird that he yelled at me a few minutes ago and now he's being all nice and smiley?
I sighed, sticking the fork into my pasta.
"Dad came here for some business matters." Chloe told when there was no one around.
I looked at her after shoveling a spoonful of pasta into my mouth. "Oh.. so you had a babysitter in there too?"
"No! Grandma and my aunt were there to look after me." she explained, waving her hands in the air.
I chuckled at her cute expressions but right now my mind was wandering with so many thoughts.
Who is Christian's wife?
Where is she?
What happened to her?
Does Christian come here only for the business matter?
Instead of appointing a babysitter, why doesn't he bring his mother or aunt to England with him to look after Chloe?
I knew that my questions will not be answered, but my mind couldn't stop wondering.
------
It's been ten days since I've come to London and if I said I was living my best life here, that would be a huge understatement.
Christian wasn't here for almost five days and when I inquired the guards about him, they said that he had gone to some business trip.
Mind you, It's not that I was missing Christian; actually I was missing Trevor. When I was in my city, I used to call Trevor every night but now I'm staying so close to him but still couldn't even be able to have a phone-call with him.
Christian was having my phone and he'd give that to me once in a week and I couldn't call any of my contacts through the intercom that he had fixed it in my room either. So now I had the only choice which was waiting for Christian's arrival.
"Bells.. It's your turn." Chloe's voice made me come back to reality. I blinked at her and she repeated, pointing to the chutes-and-ladders board. "Your turn!"
I nodded and grabbed the dice from her and when the dice started to roll on the bed, we heard the door bell which made us exchange glances.
"It must be daddy." Chloe guessed and jumped from the bed and ran to living room like a cute chick. I felt myself got excited which I really didn't know why and made my way to the living room.
I saw the long-time-no-see Christian with the tired face who was loosening his tie with his hand and Hayden was following him behind, talking something unstoppingly with handful of files.
"Daddy!" Chloe beamed standing in front of Christian and outstreching her arms to give a big hug to his dad.
Sparing her a quick glance, he said. "Not now, Chloe." and with that he made his way to the elevator which made me frown.
I've never seen him being rude to his daughter.
Chloe pouted as she started to walk towards her room. I sighed and knelt down, holding the tiny shoulders of hers.
"What made my Dolly sad?"
"Daddy ignored me." she said quietly, looking at the floor tiles.
"Shall we teach him a good lesson then?" I asked her in a fake-angry tone and she pondered over my words before nodding as fast as she could. I smiled widely and carried her in my arms and strode towards the elevator.
I didn't know whether he'd be in his room or in his office? Even I didn't know where his room was.. So I better go to the office instead of finding his room and causing a drama.
After entering into the elevator, I pressed the third floor button and when the doors opened I set my feet into the lobby where Hayden was checking some files, sitting on the couch.
I thanked God and put Chloe down before approaching him. "Hayden?"
He raised his head up and stood up when he acknowledged our presence. "Miss White? How could I help you?"
"Is he inside?" I asked flatly and he looked at us back and forth before responding.
"Yeah.. but.. he said, not to allow anyone into his cabin until he says.." he trailed off and looked at Chloe who was looking back at him with puppy dog eyes. "But.. I'll give a call and let him know about your appearance." he said tugging his hand into his pant pocket and took the phone out and dialed the number which was supposed to be Christian's one.
He kept the phone to his ear and waited for a few moments before speaking. "Hello, sir! Uh.. Miss White and your daughter is waiting for you outside so shall I send them in?-" he remained silent for a few moments and all he did was nodding his head each and every second even though Christian couldn't see it which made me roll my eyes.
When he suddenly turned his back and began to mutter so we couldn't hear what he said, I groaned as I lost my patient and held Chloe's hand, dashing into his office room without getting his approval.
