Chapter 12

Freya's POV

The next morning I couldn't wait to start with the royal garden. I had millions of ideas on how to restore it and I couldn't wait to present it to Ronin when it was done.

With this new found excitement I hurriedly dressed for the day before rushing downstairs for breakfast. Luckily for me Ronin was nowhere in sight and I could quickly eat my breakfast before heading to the royal garden.

I made sure to lock the door to the secret garden behind me as extra measures to prevent Ronin from entering. I didn't want him to see the garden until it was completely done.

I started with sweeping up all the leaves with the rake and then I started to pick out all the dead leaves in the pond with the butterfly net Moira gave me. When that was done I started to pull out all the dead plants.

It was quite a hard job and I immediately missed Ronin's help, but there was no way I was going to ask him. I wanted this garden to be a surprise for him.

I spent the rest of the day working outside. It was a tedious job, but luckily this garden was a forth the size of the rest of the garden so it wouldn't take so long.

When the sun started to set I decided to call it a day. I gathered the rest of my tools before I headed back to the castle. On my way to my room I requested the cook to send my dinner up stairs, because I wanted to avoid Ronin.

After I was washed up and dressed Moira arrived with a plate full of food.

"I didn't see you all day, where were you?" Moira asked as she placed the plate on the table.

"I was working in the garden." I said as I started to eat.

"But I thought you and Ronin finished the garden yesterday." She said.

"We did, but I decided to work on the royal garden by myself. It is suppose to be a surprise to Ronin." I explained.

"Oh I see, but if you don't mind me asking why do you want to do this for him?" She asked.

" I just think seeing the garden the way it was would mean a lot to him." I said.

"That's very nice of you. Now please eat, you must be famished." She said and she didn't have to tell me twice before I continued to eat.

When I was done Moira bid me goodnight and I settled in for the night. It wasn't long before darkness engulfed me.

A dark hooded figure appeared infront of me, blocking my path.

"Did you really think I would let you get away so easily?" He spat at me.

"No- b-but please-e let me go." I begged as more hooded figures surrounded me, caging me between them.

"No, Freya. You are far to precious to me." He said as he traced his thumb across my face and I quickly pulled away.

"I'm sorry Freya, but I will have your powers." He said before he pulled out a knife and started to approach me like a hunter it's prey.

"W-Why are you doing this?" I asked.

"It's the only way." He said before he plunged the knife into my stumach. An earpiercing scream escaped my lips as the pain ensued.

"Freya! Freya!" I heard a voice scream above another screaming voice. It took me a moment to realise that the other screaming voice was mine. I immediately stopped screaming and when I opened my eyes I saw Ronin standing over me.

"Ronin?" I croaked as I felt tears burning behind my eyes.

"Yes I'm here, you're safe." He cooed as he sat next to me on the bed. I immediately threw my arms around his huge form as I started to sob. The images of the nightmare were still fresh in my memory.

"Shhh. It's okay, it was just a dream." Ronin gently said as he tried to calm me down. After sitting like that for a while I finally pulled away as the tears stopped.

"Sorry." I mumbled as I wiped my swollen eyes.

"For what?" Ronin asked.

"For crying like this infront of you."

"It's alright." He said,"Do you want to talk about it?"

I didn't want to talk about it, but I knew it won't help if I bottled it up inside.

"It was a nightmare. The same one I've been having for these last few weeks." I said.

"Well that explains the dark circles around your eyes. Why didn't you say something earlier?" Ronin questioned.

"I didn't want to burden you with my fears." I said.

"You wouldn't have burden me. Now tell me about this nightmare."

"Well I was in the forest running from something and then all of the sudden this hooded figure steps infront of me, blocking my path. He goes on and on about how he will have my powers and that I will be his bride. Ronin I'm scared." I said.

"Don't worry your safe here. I will always protect you." Ronin said.

I gave him a small smile as he stood up.

"You should get back to bed. I will see you tomorrow." He said as he was about to turn around I called him back.

"Ronin, wait!"

He turned around to face me once more,"Yes?"

"Will you stay here tonight?" I asked and he gave me a weird expression,"Nevermind don't worry about it-"

"I'll stay." He said before he walked over to the carpet next to my bed and laid down.

"Will you be comfortable down there?" I asked.

"Yes, I'll be fine. Now go to sleep." I gave him a smile before I turned around and snuggled back into bed. After a few minutes I was pulled into darkness once more.

The next moring when I woke up I noticed that Ronin's huge figure was still fast asleep next to my bed. A smile formed on my face as I saw the peaceful look on his face. It was hard to think that he was a man eating monster. A monster, that was the last word I would use to describe him. He was anything but a heartless beast. He was kind, caring and understanding and very helpful.

As I look at his still form I can't help but wonder how his human form looked like. I could only imagine him being very handsome. Wait what? What was I thinking, he was a bear how handsome can he be.

Before my thoughts could drift away once more I decided to get breakfast. I hurriedly took a dress from my wardrobe before dressing in the bathroom.

When I stepped outside I was relieved to see that Ronin was still sleeping. I tiptoed to the door as quietly as I could. Once I was outside I closed the door gently behind me.

On my way to the breakfast hall I saw Moira, she wished me goodmorning before she went on her way.

Before I ate my breakfast I took another plate and started to place food in it for Ronin. Then I placed it on a tray and took a piece of paper before scribbling a small note,'Thank you for staying last night. See you tonight. Freya.'

I placed the letter next to the plate on the tray and started to eat my own breakfast. When I was done I returned to my room to find Ronin still fast asleep. I placed the tray on my bed table before leaving as quietly as I could.

Once I was out of the clear I started to run to the garden down below. I grabbed the tools once more before I locked myself in the small garden. The rest of the day I spent working in the garden.

My powers buzzed through my veins as I used it to restore the plants. I was very grateful for my powers, they made my job a lot easier in restoring the garden.

After a few hours of hard work I was finally done. I stood back and took a look at my work. I was thrilled with the way it turned out and I couldn't wait to show Ronin. And without further ado I went back to the castle to look for the furry bear.

Ronin's POV

The smell of cheese and meat entered my nostrils and pulled me from my dream. I opened my eyes slowly. Once my eyes came into focus I noticed that Freya was no longer in sight and there was a tray of food on her bed table, with a note.

I smile formed on my face as I read her note, she was always so thoughtful.

I quickly ate my breakfast before went down stairs to return the tray and plate. Once I entered the kitchen I noticed Moira helping cook bake someting.

"Morning." I greeted them as I place the tray on the table.

"Morning, where were you this morning? I went to look for you in your room, but you weren't there." Moira said.

"Oh well I slept in Freya's room." I said. Moira immediately started to choke as her eyes grew wide.

"You what?!" Moira screeched as cook started to pat her on her back.

"Moira she had a nightmare, I went to check on her and she asked me to stay, that's all."

"Oh. Is she alright?"

"Yes. Though I think whatever happened in the forest that day I found her, is a lot worse than we thought."

"What do you mean?"

"Her nightmare is about a man chasing her for her powers. I can't help but think that it is not just a nightmare, but a memory." I said.

"Oh no. That would explain how she ended up here." Moira stated.

"Yes, did you see her today?"

"Yes, when she went to the breakfast hall. But I haven't seen her since."

"Alright, now if you will excuse me, I have a faery to find."

Moira gave me a last smile before I went out the door. I walked through the entire castle looking for Freya, but she was nowhere to be found.

When lunch time came I went down to the kitchen to see if she came by for lunch, but she wasn't there. After I ate my lunch I decided to go for a walk in the garden.

I was walking about the garden as I admired the beauty of the garden. I was very grateful to Freya for doing this. That faery was really something else.

I remembered the terrified look on her face last night and it broke my heart. I knew right there that I would do anything to prevent her from ever having that look again. I wanted her to be happy and safe. She was my faery and I would always protect her.

"Ronin!" A sudden voice called bringing me out of my reverie.

When I looked up I saw Freya running towards me.

"Freya, are you alright?" I questioned as she came to stand next to me.

"Yes everything is great, but I want to show you something." She said before she started to walk in the direction of the secret royal garden.

Oh boy what did this little faery do now.
