It began to drizzle over the village of Easik. Ava's hair started to become strands of thick blonde dreads. The faint drops of rain tapped on her cheeks and traveled off her nose. She looked up to the clouds and closed her eyes. It made her think of the time when her, Peter and their mother would have dance parties in the rain. Jamming out to her favorite songs while their clothes became wet. Enjoying a small piece of relaxation, until a yank on her arm dragged her back to her defeat.
The bulky Skrull squeezed the life out of hr arm as he pulled her along. "Keep moving Terran!" He barked.
"Hey, pal! Shut it!" Poe screamed in defense and letting out his frustration on the Skrull who had his filthy hands on Ava.
The Skrull snarled back at the comment and held the button down, triggering a long thread of electricity to spread on Poes neck. Ava winced as she heard the hiss of agony through his teeth. She peeped over her shoulder, seeing the Skrull painfully torture Poe, punching him in the face after he released the button.
"Stop it." She pleaded towards the Skrull but there wasn't much she could do with restraints. "Leave him alone!"
The Skrull adjusted his stance, making himself tall to intimidate Ava as he looked down at her. At the corner of her eye she saw Poe, grasping for recovery. Hunched over as he breathed in and out slowly as if he had a panic attack. Struggling until he made the effort to find Ava's eyes. She thought she caught a non-verbal thank you from his worried gaze.
"That's enough, Navo." A new voice came from behind them, cutting off the taller Skrull.
Walking around Poe was one of the women with a crossbow. She was shorter than Navo but carried a countenance with pride. Her weight in one leg with lazy purple eyes that challenged Navo who huffed back.
"Just making sure they don't do anything Josie." Navo said, defending his actions.
Josie, rolled her eyes at the idiocy. "Cool it Navo. Just put them inside like Raavaka told you to."
Josie put the crossbow aimed at Ava's back. "I got her, you take him." She consulted with Navo who scrunched his face. "Now move along, or I'll shoot your spine."
Ava obeyed the Skrull as she knew there was no other choice. Navo and Josie guided them towards the open ramp of a beaten down ship. It wasn't as high tech as the Benatar, but definitely fit the gang. It must have been around for years as the material began to become a little rusty and misleading. There was a pirate esque to it as drapes cover the threshold of the open ramp.
Ava whispered to Poe next to her with a smirk. "It's like that one film with Jim Hawkins, who goes on a boat in space to find treasure planet. Except the crew of the ship end up being pirates."
"What?" Poe asked more confused the more she spoke.
She nodded realizing her coping skill wasn't go to help someone uncultured. "Right. I keep forgetting you have zero knowledge of anything from Earth."
Poe shook his head with a sigh. "I don't know if I want to know. Sounds too complicated."
Ava bit her lip at the comment with a shake of the head. Normally she would hate it, but in this situation, kept her distracted from her thoughts.
"Zip it." Josie said shortly and pressed the arrow closer.
Raavaka, stood there with her daggers in her hilt. Her arms crossed with sly grin. Josie and Navo dragged them into a singular cell on a board the small ship.
It had a wooden bed in the corner with a tiny window behind them. The two prisoners sat next to each other with the shocking device on their necks.
The ship sprang to life and rumbled as it began to take off from Easik.
The plan failed.
Exchanging another glance with Poe, apologizing with her eyes once more, Ava let out a long sigh and a pitiful smile tugging her lips.
"I guess this might be it. Huh?" She said with nothing but guilt in her words.
Poe, distraught as he tried to hide the sadness inside him let a small smile reassure Ava. "I guess so Blondie."
"Yeah, and I don't have any ideas out of this." Ava nodded slowly as guilt rolled out of her eyes. Making her cheeks glisten with a stream of tears. She bit her lip to keep herself from breaking. She had been so strong and now she was trying her best not to fall apart. But she failed. Having no control of her emotions.
She wept.
The glass of water had been filled up and began to overflow inside of her. The pressure of keeping herself tough, was just an illusion to hide the blame she constantly carried.
"Hey, hey, hey," Poe's soothing and concerned voice pulled her out of her spiral he had got on his knees and leaned to be parallel to her face. "What's the matter?"
"I'm so sorry Poe!" She bawled shaking her head as she began to fidget her jean jacket. "You shouldn't have come with us and you shouldn't have gotten involved in all of this. I got you captured by these pirates and your probably never going home. It's all my fault."
Tears continued to fall and her arms returned at her lap. Squeezing her eyes shut, wishing she could stop being so vulnerable, trying to use her hair to hide. To her surprise, a hand moved back the loose strands behind her ear.
"Please, don't do that to yourself Blondie." Poe said.
His hand then landed soft on top of her knuckle as she found those worried puppy eyes. His eyebrow pinching in sorrow.
"It's not your fault-"
"Yes it is Poe!" Ava raised her voice staring straight into his eyes. "I was the one who convinced all the Guaridans to take the call and find you on Behert. You could have been recused by the Nova Corps and be safe on Xandar. Then you wouldn't be stuck on this damn pirate ship!"
Poe remained still as he processed what she just said. She pushed his hand off and shifted her body to face the other direction.
Letting the tears flow, Ava squeezed her eyes shut in shame. Knowing her words were true.
"Ava." Poe's tender voice seeping into her ears, bringing a sense of peace. Bit she didn't dare to acknowledge him.
"Look at me please."
Knowing she couldn't protest or go against his request, she moved her head. Her wet eyes finding his again.
"I know I sucked at the beginning, but I am truly grateful you guys found me. Yeah it's frustrating that I can't go home right now but-" He paused as he bit his lip. "Even if these Skrulls do kill us, just know,"
He place his hand on mine again, while setting himself right next to her with their shoulders touching. Only this time he was holding her hand with his fingers securing around it. "You have become a dear friend, Ava. I don't regret stumbling into your life and meet you."
A smile twitched on her cheeks as she squeezed his hand. Touched by his verbal exchange.
"What about the others?" She asked with a tease.
Poe ripped his eyes away in embarrassment. "Yeah, huh. Them too."
She snickered at the his nervous reaction. She still had no clue what to do about the situation, but she felt more at ease with Poe's presence siting next to her.
Ava grinned and tapped his hand with her fingers. "Don't worry. I'm glad you feel that way. Because you're stuck with me for now."
A contagious warmth spread inside her chest, like a virus. Infecting her with so much comfort and desring to stay him with like this.
Safe.
Regardless of being captured, she felt safe.
"Thank goodness." Poe whispered.
Ava didn't realize how close she got to him until she felt his breath fanning her face as he spoke. Her heart picked up speed as she kept her eyes on him. It was as if she wasn't stuck on a pirate spaceship. That it was only her and Poe.
"Poe,"
"Hm?"
"I need to tell you something-"
Before she could finish her sentence, a rumble made the ship come to a stop. Ava stood up and looked out the window. There was no explanation to why they stopped as the ship was still floating amongst the stars.
"What happened?" Poe asked, standing next to her.
"You think I know captain obvious?" Ava spat, she didn't know how to respond.
Until she saw a flash of light cruising a long. It resembled a shooting star and got closer to the ship. Except at the end of the streak of light, something familiar.
Or someone.
Poe still confused and full of qestions asked. "Is that, is that a person flying!?"
It wasn't too hard to see his brain baffle. Ava grinned at him before refocusing on the light, knowing exactly who it was.
The light stopped right outside the window and gave Poe a mini heart attack. But Ava watched as she recognized that red and blue suit that radiated with cosmic-photon energy.
A hand going up to the women's forehead and Ava saluted in return.
"Hey, Major Q." Said the women.
"Danvers." Ava responded.
Captain Marvel got her message.
The Skrulls were so screwed now.

Cue in the Captain Marvel theme!!!!
(Actually one of my favorite marvel scores) If only this was a movie scene, it would start playing the moment Ava saw the streak of energy.
I just watch Uncharted again, and realized that Ravaaka is pretty much Jo Braddock. So that's what the poorly photo shopped picture is. If you've seen that movie, that's kind of what Ravaaka is like. Scary women with sharp weapons.
Also Poe and Ava are getting comfy look at that. 😏
It's so fricking sweet on how Poe is a little cocky boy but can have a soft spot too. I wish the movies portrayed that more. But credit to Oscar Isaac for doing his best. High respect to him. (I mean gotta support my man right?)
And poor Ava being a self conscious little baby. She'll be okay, she's just been through a lot and I wanted to show that she isn't a stone cold character.
Anyways, Carol is here and has a moment to shine in the next chapter! (See what I did there lol)
