𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙮: insane and stupid
-☆-
Accidents are not uncommon, but he hadn't meant for this to happen. The General of the Resistance, didn't mean to get himself stuck out in the middle of who knows where. Stranded with a group of people who treated each other like a family.
Yet, the more he learned about this galaxy -the foreign ships that he couldn't comprehend a few days ago- he started to find it wasn't all inconvenient or a waste of time.
An accident, no longer a prison, but instead a sancutuary of the gracious company of the Guardians. Outcasts who came together to save the galaxy, despise the fact they all have lost. Those losses, led them to find each other.
Just like the Resistence.
Being the son of Kes and Shara Dameron, rebel heroes who fought with General Leia, Poe who only ever wanted to be better and make his parents proud, especially his mother. Hoping she could see the man he was becoming. To also show Leia he became the General she wanted him to be as well.
The first day on Base, as a pilot in training, Poe remebered the encourging embrace each day. Everyone greeting each other as a huge Resistence family. After he worked his way up to becoming the Commander of the Black Squadron. Never did he think he'd ever become the General.
Yet, all Poe wanted to do was exactly what the Guardians did. To fight for the galaxy and to find a place he felt safe.
Being with the Guardians and the Resistance, Poe felt like he was home. Two families that were broken and small, but still good. Both not hesitating to not leaving anyone behind or forget them.
A place on his base, when there was always a sense of security there. Poe was able to find that same safety with the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Rocket and him became close partners in crime, pulling pranks on everyone.
Gamora and Nebula would ask questions about his battles, such as blowing up Star-Killer Base, Krait and Exegol. The two sisters would then compare the First Order army to their Father and how the two went far off from their brutality.
Groot taught him how to play video games and the kid didn't show any mercy.
Poe found himself laughing at the ridiculous conversations he has with Mantis and Drax.
Kraglin seemed to still be bitter over the toe situation, but also praised Poe for not crashing his ship. He even offered to give Poe a ship if ever started to miss flying.
Peter had been the hardest of getting close to. He seemed to return a cold stare that Poe couldn't find the reason for. Every once in a while, Poe broke the strange exterior from Starlord by letting share his passion of music.
Starlord introduced him to the "classics." Which included Micheal Jackson, David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Blue Swede, TOTO, Elvis Presley, Queen, the Beatles and Redbone's famous hit, Starlords personal favorite, Come and Get Your Love.
Poe didn't mean to get close to any of them at. Yet they were a great company. This accident becoming special in a way.
The Guardians had decided to spend a day at the local park. Tons of Xandarian kids ran around a playground with different types of motor based activities. He saw one little girl with brown hair and orange skin, reminding him of the legendary Ahsoka Tano in ancient files. He smiled as she passed the ball to some of the older kids.
His chin rested in his palm, his elbow leaning against the steel picnic table, subconsciously keeping his eyes glued to one person.
"Alright BB-8!" She piped at his droid as if he were like the strange 4-legged pets chasing a stick and bringing it back to its owner.
She stood in position waiting for approval. "You ready buddy!?"
The droid whirred in response before she threw the ball.
Poe looked down and adjusted his hands so that were clasped together. He shook his head with a laugh of astonishment.
He never meant to get close to her.
Falling for somene, wasn't knew for Poe Dameron. He'd stumbled into and fooled around in Cantinas before. Finding a way to use his powerful flirtatious techniques or dashing smirk to swoon almost anyone in the Resistance. Including locals when it was on another planet. Sometimes those nights would result him to getting punched in the face or pinned to the floor.
With Ava? Poe didn't know how to put how he felt into words.
She drove him crazy the way she would scold him over little things that weren't a big deal. But then it would be more overwhelming when she would tease him that was followed by her laugh that made his heart skip a beat.
Her stubbornness made him want to shoot her with a blaster. But he would restrain from pulling the trigger, when she demonstrated a beautiful kind smile in her eyes, followed by her contagious laugh. It was worse, however, the moment that gaze was on him.
Unlike anyone else on base or in the galaxy he knew, Ava cause Poe to not only trip, but to find himself falling off a cliff. Not being able to stop. Waiting for then harsh landing he'd experienced before, but it never came. A never ending cycle of always falling for her.
No one could compare to Ava Quill.
From their first few encounters, to fighting side by side. To when she was injured, and he held her in his arms. To jamming out to her favorite songs while he flew Kraglin's ship. To now, watching her play with BB-8 with such delight.
Not even jumping in an X-wing and blowing things up could match the acceleration in his system. It was as if he was at the peak of taking the First Order down once again. Wanting to scream on the top of his lungs. But also wanted to remain calm as he listened to her now, as if her voice was a Resistance lullaby his mother used to sing to him.
Poe Dameron usually found a solution for everything. Yet there was the feeling of a combustion in his soul, like a Death Star being blown up. Leaving the General entirely clueless.
In that uncertainty, he still wore a smile.
"You look insane and stupid when you do that."
Startled, Poe looked over to see unexpected company standing next to him. The tall muscular man covered in red tattoos, looking with piercing blue eyes that could kill if they could.
"Oh, hey Drax." He acknowledged the slightly intimidating Guaridan. Poe knew the man wasn't going to hurt him, but still proceeded with caution. "Don't mind me I'm just laughing at that little kid over there trying to get back the stick from his pet."
"It's an okay kind of insane and stupid though." Drax stated, ignoring Poe's attempt to lie.
Poe frowned in confusion and in denial of being caught. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"You're bad at hiding that insane and stupid face." Drax continued while Poe grew uncomfortable under his stare. "It only appears when Ava is around. It's obvious of how you feel about from just that face you make."
"That's a nice theory Drax but I don't-" Poe shook his head, about to continue to debunk Drax's myth, but closed his mouth when a hand slapped on his shoulder.
"Trust me Mr. Good looking General. When I first saw my wife, I couldn't take my eyes off of her for the entire day. I looked just as insane as you. My mind went crazy and others may have call me a psychopath."
The intensity of the two bright blue eyes intimidating Poe. Reminding him to never get on his bad side.
Poe averted the uncomfortable stare, watching blonde hair fall in front of a radiating face that was like a sun shining though gloomy clouds. Her laugh as sweet as a melody of chimes that blew into the air.
It was Nebula's turn to throw the ball and it was only a matter of time before two azure spheres, enhanced by beams of light met his eyes. Illuminating and more breathtaking than any sunrise or sunset he'd witnessed.
Nervously, she bit her lip as she sent a wave. His heart skipping a beat at her innocent reaction to finding him amused by her activity. Poe gladly returned the gesture before cupping his hands around his mouth.
"How's my droid!?" He called out. "You better not be overworking him, blondie!"
She shook her head before slapping the air in his direction, stirring up a stupidly adorable remark. "He's fine Poe! No need to worry!"
Shaking his head while she gave him.a lingering smile before she went back to playing with BB-8.
"So what if I do have those feelings for her, then what, Drax?" Poe questioned, for once not knowing what to do. "I don't want her to laugh at me. I mean, I think she likes me back from all that we've been through, but I don't know for sure."
He leaned his elbows on the table and his hands covering the middle of his face while his fingertips peaked at the bridge of his nose. "It's complicated."
"Don't focus on what you think. Feel." Drax said after a moment of silenced as Poe frowned.
"What?"
"It's like if you were in a dance with her, there wouldn't be thinking about the way tou sway or spin her." Drax clarified his statement. "It's about being in the moment with her and how you both feel. Thinking gets you stuck, but feeling will be a thrilling experience you'll want to throw in the air.
Poe nodded with a sigh as he acknowledged the advice. "Thanks, Drax."
Drax put his hand on Poe's shoulder again almost knocking the wind out of him. "Of course my new good looking friend!" He chuckled. "Too bad you never met the pirate-angel."
Clearing his throat, the tattooed man fixed his eyes on the General once more.
"Just don't let Pete find out." Drax added before patting his shoulder before joining Mantis who was on the swings at the kid area.
Forgetting Ava's older brother, Poe saw the guy was taller and could probably be punched in the jaw pretty good. Or much worse, a blaster shot in his face. Remembering the pain he earned on his upper arm, he couldn't imagine that pain on his face.
"Don't worry."
Poe spun around to see Gamora this time as she was taking a break from whatever game she was playing with Peter. The guy holding a sports ball of some sort.
Gamora standing with her hands on her hips, catching her breathe before chugging water. Swallowing it, then finally finishing her sentence.
"Just let me know when you plan on taking her out and I'll keep Ava's brother occupied." Gamora said with a wink before she walked back to the game she was playing.
A grin stretched on his lips as his eyes shift from the couple to her. Taking in Ava's breathtaking countance, for the billionth time that day, as if multiple sun's where setting.
Making him insane and stupid.

A few more days had gone by, being almost 4 weeks since they found Poe on Behert. And there still was no clue of how to get him home.
It troubled Ava as she went to the Nova Corps and searched the data of the Galaxy again. Search for a portal or passage that she could have missed. A multiversal bridge, if that were possible. Not to her knowledge at least.
"So we know he crashed into this asteroid field, but he seemed to have come from a farther distance." Ava mumbled outloud, speaking to herself, not expecting a response as she put her pen on her lips. "But what we don't know how far."
With a frustrating sigh and tossing her pen on the desk, she paced, running her hands through her hair.
"Maybe Thanos or some other big bad blew up his base and that's why we can't find it." Ava said as she slapped her hands on the side of her legs. Realizing what just came out of her mouth, with her eyes widening, letting out a gasp. "Oh, I sure hope not. Poe would be completely devastated and I'm not going to be able to witness that again. He was this close to loosing his droid which is basically like his dog."
Continuing to pace with gestures and thoughts, like branches on a tree growing rapidly. Limbs that seemed promising, but then it would die. And then she'd start to grow a new branch. But nothing seemed to be adding up.
A buzz shattered her train of thought. She rolled her eyes cursing Gamora for giving him a communicator. A message from the handsome devil himself. Ava pulled the device out, knowing exactly what he going to say if she answered. It be just like every other time he's called her in the past few days. It be along the lines of "Hey blondie! Working yourself to death? Will save you if you come hangout with us."
Letting out a long sigh, knowing how his persistence would trump her determination to ignore his calls, she pressed the accept button.
"Hey! You finally answered." Poe piped.
Ava groaned. "Yeah because an idiot keeps bothering me."
"Haha, so funny." He scoffed. "You busy?"
"Am I busy?" She chuckled. "Poe! I have been at the Nova Corps the past few days, trying to find your base general. Yeah! I am busy."
"You're always busy blondie." Poe stated, dragging his words out slowly. "Anyways, we are going to go to blaster-tag and as a General, I say that you are coming with us."
It did sound like fun. Peter took her with the Guardians during her first month of being away from Earth. However, she knew if she got distracted, then she'd never get back to work.
Ava huffed. "I'm sorry. One, your not my General and two, I can't even if I wanted to."
"Lame!" Poe whined. "You're no fun." Poe stated and she could hear the pout in his voice.
"Do you want to get back home?" Ava sassed him back.
"Oh- you're breaking- up- blondie!" Poe shouted while breathing harshly into the communicator on his end. "You better- be- there- or else-"
She rolled his eyes. "Or else what? What are you going to do if I don't come?"
"You'll have to put up with me." Poe replied in a normal voice.
"I do that already." Ava said with a small giggle.
"More than you already do." He clarified.
Ava smiled shaking her head. "I thought you were breaking up-"
"Yep- bye- blondie!"
As she hung up, Ava shook her head. Hating the way he drove her crazy, even though she really didn't mind. His desperate craving for attention from her caused a bashful smile stretching on her face as annoyance was replaced by adoration. Biting her bottom lip as her heart patted tenderly inside her chest.
Poe Dameron making her fall harder, as always.

The day and changed into night. Ava asked Irani if she could take the data to the office in the house. Thankfully an agreement was made and Ava spent the rest of the day there.
Touching the screens as she took notes off to the side on a separate clear holoscreen that resembled a whiteboard. Investigating like she was a detective solving a murder. Connecting evidence with lines, as if they were red strings, putting pin points as she discovered more factors.
"Hey Tony Stark 2.0." Peter said as he popped his head in. "We are going out to eat you want to come with?"
Without taking her eyes off of the holoscreen, she waved him of with her hand. "Go without me."
Peter nodded once knowing she wasn't going to budge. "Okay. I'll bring something back. What do you want?"
Ava used a holographic push-pin, sticking it on her notes and connected the line to another piece of information.
"Just the usual, Pete." She said, still not giving any acknowledgement.
"See you later then." He left.
More hours past, Mantis gave her the take out they brought her. But she barely was eating it as she continued to research every planet mapped across the galaxy. She didn't even hear Gamora inform her about going to bed.
Another hour had gone by, and her fatigue was catching up on her dedication. Ava didn't let that stop her as she continued to look again, one more time just incase something new popped up that she hadn't seen before or missed.
She had turned on some tunes to keep herself concentrated, but her mind was running circles. Onto something until it turned into another endless cycle and resort to a different path. But persistence kept her busy and it was approaching midnight. The office was a complete mess, with several holograms on disply and on her desk, loads of files of astrology and astronomy research from Earth that she kept with her.
A small seed of doubt planted inside her mind. Praying there was no Quantum Realm involved or any other complications. Peter Parker explained to her at Tony's funeral about Dr. Strange who mentioned very complicated concepts that Ava couldn't process. As well as Scott Lang and the Van Dyne family who also tried to explain it to her. She knew everything about space, not quantum physics.
But if she could prove naysayers about life outside of Earth - such as seeing the Chitari attack New York - then there had to be a way to get coordinates for Ajan Kross.
Finding that planet wasn't going to be easy. Yet something inside her knew it wasn't impossible. Ava wasn't going to stop until she found a way to get Poe home.
"Still working your busy ass off, blondie?"
A voice startled her as found the General standing in the door way, leaning against the frame. Only wearing a white tank top and baggy sweatpants he borrowed from Peter.
"Don't be a hypocrite, Dameron." She scoffed, refocusing on her search, swiping to the next galaxy. Even though she was just trying to not think about how his toned and exposed arms, made her cheeks warm. "Look who's also still awake."
Poe chuckled as he stepped into the room, sitting backwards on the chair she wasn't using. "Nah, I just woke up to use the bathroom until I saw the light was still on in here."
Ava ignored his comment and didn't want to let her guard down because of him. If she met his eyes, then her whole discovery would go to waste.
"Plus I heard another catchy song that I'm dying to know. What's this one called?" He said
Ava didn't pay attention to the song, until she recognized the singer to be Haley Williams accompanied by the sound of an electric guitar, a bass and drums.
"It's called Still Into You by Paramore." She said, jotting down another bullet point.
The chorus blasted from her speaker:
"I should be over all the butterflies
But I'm into you."
Ava did her best to block out the song as the lyrics made her hesitate to write. Knowing they applied to her in that moment.
Poe hummed, amused by the melody and alternative rock beats. "I also thought I'd should also check on someone's sanity."
Ava shook her head as wrote something else down with a sigh. "I'm fine. So you go get your beauty sleep Mr. General."
Then, almost jumping out of her own skin, a hand wrapped around her writing utensil, fingers brushing over hers. Glancing over her shoulder, unaware that Poe had came up behind her, tossing the pen onto her desk. His other arm snuck around and turned off the screens, his breath hitting the back of her neck.
"Come to think of it." He whispered quietly, his voice still a little groggy from waking up. "I'm not tired anymore."
He retreated and took her hand, bringing it above her head as he spun her until she faced him. Not letting her hand escape as he linked his fingers with hers, their arms falling gently to the side
Ava lost every thought associated with her studies. Sensing a rebellious motive and it was working as her heart skipped a beat when he leaned closer. Speaking softly into her ear. "Why don't you and I sneak out? Take a little walk around the neighborhood? Give this little Ms. Genius a break."
The ghosting touch of his lips, sent shivers down her spine and Ava couldn't find a reason to decline his offer. Instead every reason to accept his invitation. A moment of captivation, meeting two dark round caves full of wonder as she desired to explore them like she had before, wanting to discover more. Curiosity flushed out everything else in the world like a flood. Only wanting to share her secrets with him as well.
"I'd like that." Ava finally replied.
Poe grinned in victory as he squeezed her palm. "Your request is granted, my sweetheart."
"I'll meet you by the front door."
