Death Waits For No One

~Last Chapter~

So the man who didn't help his own daughter in her time of need wants to talk to us? This ought to be interesting..
===============================

~Natsu's POV~
"Right this way." Instructed the nurse. We entered a large white room with a ceiling fan, monitors and other doctor stuff.

But what surprised me wasn't seeing mister Heartfilia in such a weak state. It was that next to his bed was Lucy.

"Lucy!" I quickly ran to her not caring about her father being in the room. And nurse stood in front of me blocking my way.

"She's sleeping because of the medication. She'll wake up in a few minutes."

"So you must be Natsu? Igneel's boy?" I turn to see mister Heartfilia.

"Yeah." Was all I said.

"How are you feeling Jude?" Asked my mother taking a seat next to his bed.

Oh please, Get a room!

"I'm not in my best shape but I can go on." He answered weakly. "Now can someone tell me whats going on with my daughter? These people refused to tell me and I don't know why."

Since when has he ever cared about Lucy?

"She has to get a Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery but the doctor who preforms the surgery isn't in town since he's doing an important research. The nurse said the he would only come for a very good reason." Explained my mother.

"I see. Call the nurse for me please Grandeeny." My mother nodded got up to get her. When she returned, Mr.Heartfilia asked the nurse to lean close and he whispered something to her. The nurse nodded once, then twice, and her eyes widened...and then she nodded one last time before she left. I was about to ask what he said but Lucy started shuffling around and woke up.

"Wh-What?!" She sat up too quickly witch caused her head to hurt. I gently pushed her shoulders back.

"Just calm down and lay back."

"W-Where am I?" She looked around frantically.

"We're at the hospital." She looked around and saw my mom and Wendy, then her eyes fell on Mr. Heartfilia.

"And what the hell is he doing here?"

She must still be acting like how she was before..

"I should be asking you the same thing young lady." It didn't seem like he was mad at her, it sounded more like he was worried. Lucy stayed quiet. "Why didn't you tell me that your sickness continued?"

"Because you were never there to listen! Every Time I went to the doctor, you wouldn't even ask how it went or how I was doing!" Lucy boomed. Mr.Heartfilia looked away and chuckled a bit. "What the hell are you laughing about!"

"Lucy, calm down." I told her a bit worried about her heart.

"No. It's alright. It's expected that she would react like this." He kept looking up at the ceiling. "Ever since your mother passed away, I've been trying to make you become stronger. I really don't know what I had in my mind. Thinking that treating you badly would make you stronger. I'm sorry Lucy." Lucy's eyes widened and Wendy, mom and I were silent.

"I don't expect you to forgive me, but I just wanted you to know that-"

"I forgive you." She answered. Mr. Heartfilia turned to look at his daughter.

"What?"

"I forgive you." She repeated.

"Why?"

"Because the man I'm seeing right now is the father I had when I was little. And I don't want to lose him again.."

"That makes me very happy to know Lucy." A bunch of nurses started coming into the room and started disconnecting the wires and tubes that were attached to Mr. Heartfilia.

"What are they doing? Are they letting you go?" Asked my mother.

"No. I told them to do that." He answered.

"W-What? Why?? Without that you'll..." Mr. Heartfilia placed a hand on top of hers and gave her a kind smile.

He couldn't be thinking about...

"Dad? Whats going on?" Lucy started sitting up.

"Don't worry Lucy dear, you're going to be alright." He smiled at her.

"I don't care if I'm alright, I want to know if your going to be alright!"

"My time has come and I'm ready to accept this. I'm very glad I could reunite with you, and see you, one last time."

"You're talking like your gonna die dad, don't play around like that." She started getting up and walked the short distance to his bed.

At the same moment she kneeled in front of his bed, he gently placed his hand on her cheek cupping her face with his large hand.

"Dad we're finally back to how we were before, you cant just leave me here alone!"

"You wont be alone sweetheart. You have Natsu and his family to watch over you while I'm gone." He said all the while smiling weakly.

"No! This isn't fair! You can't go!" Her tears were now falling rapidly from her eyes.

"Remember to be a good girl. I love you."

"No! Dad! Stop acting selfish and stay!" He let a single tear fall and so did his hand from her cheek. Her eyes widened and grabbed his hand.

"Dad? Dad?! Daddy! No!" She sobbed as she leaned her for head on the white sheets.

A nurse came by Lucy's side and started taking her away from him.

"No! Let me go!" Lucy argued.

"I'm sorry but the doctor just arrived a few minutes ago and is ready to begin your surgery."

"What??" It was my turn to talk. "Didn't you say that he was away doing research?"

"Mr.Heartfilia told us to explain you all that his company was facing financial problems, so he only had enough money either for his surgery or his daughters." She turned to look at Lucy. "He said to give as much money that the doctor wanted so that he could come and to use the rest of the money to pay for the rest of your needs."

Lucy stayed still not moving, probably taking in everything that just happened. And just barely a whisper, she says.

"He died for me?"

"It would seem as so. Now please come with me to prepare-"

"No." Lucy interrupted.

"Excuse me?"

"No, he couldn't have died."

"Luce I know its hard to understand but-"

"No, you don't understand. He can't be dead! Natsu, I don't. have. any. other. relatives. He couldn't have left me all alone!"

"She's getting hysterical, pass me the syringe." I heard the nurse whisper to the other.

"He has to still be alive! He has-" They jabbed the needle in her left arm making me flinch as the injected a clear looking medicine.

Lucy's eyes started drooping as she struggled to stay awake and stay by her dad's side. She was falling forward, letting me catch her before She hit the ground.

"I'm sorry but we need to continue, we do not have much time." With the help of the others, they took Lucy from my arms--sadly--and put her on a gurney.

"Alright lets go." And she was off.

We hadn't noticed the they already took Mr. Heartfilia away, witch left only us there to wait for the surgery to be a success...
