...

Seto Hiroko POV:

I almost fainted in shock when we found Kousei bleeding profusely inside the piano room with a sword thrust in his body. I fell on my knees after we found him in that state.

"Kousei!" I screamed.

I was about to take off the sword from him but Agent Yukauchi stopped me. "If you pull it out with immediate force, he'll die in your hands."

We looked around and all of us found out that the man who attacked him had left a message written on the wall which made me angry. It's written in blood that we know was from Kousei's.

THE LAMB'S SACRIFICE WON'T BE IN VAIN. A NEW ERA WILL SOON BEGIN IN HIS FUNERAL PYRE.

Agent Yukauchi checked Kousei immediately after he read it to know if he's still breathing and a pulse. He sighed in relief moments later. "He's still breathing but his pulse is faint. We have to be quick before he loses a lot more oxygen due to blood loss."

Like Kousei, we found Dr. Toyama unconscious but unlike Kousei, he's in better shape. When he woke up, he asked us, "Kousei! Where is Kousei?"

Doctor Mika replied to him, "Kousei's going to die if we don't hurry."

Agent Yukauchi didn't take off the sword in Kousei's body in one swift. He took it off carefully. After the sword was taken off, Kousei woke up a bit. He's bleeding faster now that the sword was removed. He began whimpering and crying. He tried to talk to me but he just vomited more blood. "Don't talk. Kousei, stay awake, okay? You can't leave us yet."

He cried bitterly and painfully on my chest. Since he's in an emergency situation, we didn't wait for an ambulance and we just took a car to get him in the hospital. He's getting so pale and cold after we brought him in the car and to maintain his body heat, I had to keep pressing his wounds using a towel.

...

When we arrived at the nearest hospital, the doctors didn't wait.

They immediately brought him to the operating room after seeing his grave situation and the emergency surgery lasted for five hours.

After that, a surgeon wearing his blue scrubs went out to report Kousei's situation and the result of the operation.

"The patient, Arima Kousei had severe blood loss. We gave him some blood bags we can find that is the same as his blood type. It's good that we have a lot of stocks of B+ blood type," he said to us. "We had to stitch a lot of his internal organs, especially his stomach which received the most blow of the cut. Luckily, it missed his spinal cord which I believe, the reason why he is still alive. The cut was made with a sword, isn't it? Was he attacked or was it an accident?"

"He was attacked," Agent Yukauchi answered him.

"Don't you think you have to call the police for this?" he asked us.

"The boy is in the custody of the Japanese Secret Service. I hope you take that information in utter secrecy that only his immediate doctors should know," Agent Yukauchi replied to him. "His situation is classified."

The doctor looked very much disappointed at Agent Yukauchi. I am dismayed, too that they weren't able to protect him. He knew at that time that they had failed at the job they were given.

"Is he okay now, doctor?" I asked him.

"No. He can still have internal bleedings and due to his current condition, he might receive more surgery. He'll be kept in thorough monitoring," he replied. "His body would need to recuperate, his immune system is down. We need to get him into a medically- induced coma as to let him recover with ease."

"If I don't put him in a coma?" I asked. "What will be his situation?"

"Whenever he is awake, he will wail in pain due to how severe his wounds are. It will be torturous and dangerous to him," he answered me. "His wounds are deep."

I looked down sadly, "Do it. Place him in a comatose state. I don't want him to cry in so much pain."

...

A few hours later, I was already allowed to see Kousei in an isolated room. I was required to wear precautionary clothes and a mask to protect Kousei from getting diseases from those who visit him.

After I had set foot in the ICU, I saw that he's in a life support tube and he's breathing sharply. I'm sure that he's battling the pain alone.

He might not be crying but his condition was enough for me to know how much he was in misery and agony. He doesn't have any eyeglasses on and his abdomen was also bandaged so tightly.

I had always watched him sleeping in his room at my house but right now, he's sleeping like he's going to leave us. He isn't just mentally sick, now. He's in so much danger right now. He's so pale and his eyes are closed too tight.

I keep hearing his heartbeats in the heart monitor and I would hate that to be in a flat line. I looked back at his male doctor who's assigned by the hospital after he inserted the needle of the blood bag in Kousei's veins at his right hand. He introduced himself as Director Akizawa Matsuda. He has thick eyeglasses and a stethoscope around his neck.

"Will he survive, doctor?" I asked him. "He will survive, right?"

"We have to save him. Those were the orders from the top," he replied to me. "We will do our best to save him. That may be an order but saving lives is our oath. Don't worry. His team of doctors is comprised of the best doctors. He doesn't deserve to die."

"Thank you, Director Akizawa," I told him.

"We will save him, Seto Hiroko. He doesn't deserve to die yet," he assured me. "He's too young to bite the dust."

...

After a while, Kaori and Watari went in to look out for him. Like me, they were wearing masks and precautionary clothes. I looked at Kaori at that time after they stood in front of Kousei's bed.

"If he lives, stop lying to him. His parents did lie to him and you also lied to him. I beg you, Kaori. Tell him that you are still alive," I told her. "Please, tell him the truth about you! He misses you so much!"

Watari looked at her. "Seto Hiroko- san's right, Kaori. We can't keep on lying to him anymore."

Kaori cried, "I should not have left him alone. I should have stayed in Japan and told him that I will be abroad. I shouldn't have lied to him that I died in the operation!"

She sat beside Kousei and held his right hand which has a lot of needles in. "Why should he be suffering like this, Seto-san? Why was his life turned upside down after he graduated from junior high?"

I hugged her. "I don't know. Only God knows the reason why he is experiencing so much pain."

...

Seto Genichi POV:

"You failed your mission!!! I assigned the three of you to protect the son of a very important man that was killed five years ago! If his son dies, you know that you are a failure as you weren't able to protect the child of Sir Arima Takahiko!" shouted Prime Minister Nakamichi Goro. "The emperor is upset, agents. What happened to his house!? How was he attacked inside his own home?"

Doctor Toyama answered him, "If only I know how to fight more, sir, I could have protected Arima Kousei. His attacker didn't kill me."

"You saw who it is?" I asked. "Who attacked the boy?"

All of them looked at me surprisingly. They seemed shocked to know where I work.

Toyama asked me, "Why are you here in Prime Minister Nakamichi's room?"

Nakamichi-san told them, "Seto Genichi is my secretary, agents. It looks like the Secret Service assigned incompetent agents since you don't know who he is! He was once like you and he knows Sir Arima Takahiko. He's also close to his family. Answer his question."

"He said his name is Okata Jun," Toyama informed us.

His words hit me so much. It totally surprised me that I was right about Jun in the first place. He was my friend in college before. I also remember that he fell in love with Hanashimi Saki before. They had the same mentor at that time. He tried to console her, court her and take her heart for himself but Saki fell in love with Arima Takahiko who was already a member of the Secret Service. I entered the same institution a year after they met. When I entered the Secret Service, Jun disappeared. We only met again three years later after I was asked to spy in a Mafia.

I found Jun as a member in there and most of all, I witnessed him overthrow a Mafia leader. He's so obsessed with something he wanted to kill. I don't know what it is. After I learned that he became the leader of the Japanese Mafia five years after we graduated from college, I chose to leave the Mafia and marry Hiroko.

I didn't leave Secret Service yet, though until the Prime Minister asked me to be his secretary. I looked at Nakamichi-san. "Okata Jun. You know him, right?"

"He was a college friend of mine," I replied. "He became a Mafia leader in my days in Secret Service."

"He's more than that. He's an illegitimate kid of Prince Senosuke from a whore," he informed us. "He didn't recognize him nor the government. The Imperial Law does state that illegitimate children cannot be royalties."

"What if I tell you that Kousei's attack's only the tip of the iceberg?" Dr. Mika spoke up. "Don't you think there is a traitor in the royal family?"

All of us were shocked by what she said to us.

"Isn't that a very serious accusation, Mika?" Prime Minister Nakamichi told her. "Are you sure about that?"

"I found more than one passage that the killer wrote," she said to us. "You saw the first passage but the other one was written on the wall behind Kousei. I was only able to see it when you moved Kousei away from where he was shivering."

"What did you see more, Mika?" I asked her. "Share it with us."

"I AM A CREATURE LURKING AT NIGHT. MAKE SURE THE LAMB IS HIDDEN WELL," she said to us. "FEMALES LEAVE THE ROYAL FAMILY. NOW, I WILL MAKE SURE A WOMAN WILL BE EMPRESS."
