Chapter 4
"Alright so Colby's condition." The doctor says. My stomach drops as I hear how serious his tone was. He flips a page on his clipboard and looks at it as we continue down another hallway.
"He has a hairline fracture from his Patella to his mid Femur, which is..."
"A thin fracture from his left kneecap to mid-thigh, yes, keep going please." I interrupt.
The doctor raises his raises his eyebrow surprised. "Ok," he says flipping another page. "He has another hairline fractured from his Patella to his Pelvis, which is..."
"Kneecap to hip bone..." I mumble to myself.
Dr. Worth sighs. "Thanks for doing my job." He says and presses the call button for the elevator.
"Sorry," I say. He waves his hand, dismissing it. For a second he says nothing after flipping another page. "Wait,is that all? Does that mean he's ok?" I ask getting excited.
Still looking at the next page Dr. Worth shakes his head. "I'm sorry, I was reading over it." The elevator doors open up and and we step into the elevator. He presses the button to one of the floors and the doors close back. The doctor scratches the back of his neck before continuing. He mumbles something to himself and I raise an eyebrow.
"What?" I ask.
"Hm?" The doctor asks me back.
"What did you say?" I ask.
He shakes his head. "It was obvious the car hit his left side." He says. My stomach turns a flip.
"Please keep reading." I say almost desperate.
"8 of 12 ribs on his left side are cracked and one on his right side." He says quietly.
I grip at the elevator railing and try to call my breathing as my stomach lurches.
He flips the page again and I shake my head. "Please tell me that's the worst of it." I say as a tear rolls down my cheek. But even I knew that was far fetched as I see a still small stack of paper below the one he was on. He sees me eyeing the paper and flips through them.
"Don't worry, after this one the rest are mainly cuts and bruises." He says reassuringly. But the words the caught me were 'after this one'.
I look at the ground and wipe my tears. "Just read it." I say and he swallows as he looks at the paper.
"Alright, the rib cage's purpose is to protect vital organs such as the heart and lungs..." I shake my head, cutting him off.
"Damn just tell me; I've already listened to all of this. I can't do any explanations right now. I'm sorry. Please just tell me."
He nods. "I understand. One of the cracked ribs has begun to sink inward towards the Left Anterior Descending or the LAD, which is a major artery in his heart." He stops when he sees tears rolling down my face in a stream that wasn't stopping.
He opens his arms but I shake my head, not wanting a hug, but as I begin to cry harder, Dr. Worth enforces the hug himself and I cry into his chest.
I pull myself together and shake my head as I pull away from him. "I'm sorry for that." I say, taking a shaky breath.
"Please, don't worry about it." He says. "But is that rib gets to the artery it could..." I hold my hand up.
"Please don't. I don't want to know." I say. He just nods. "What can you do about it?" I ask.
He nods. "What we need to do is go in and have a surgery to get that rib back away from that artery and back where it needs to be. Right now it is a case of Flail Chest because he has more than three ribs cracked and in different places. This can make it extremely hard for him to breathe because the ribs aren't keeping their shape."
I nod along as he gives out information. When the facts begin to slow down I ask, "ok, so what can you do to get his runs back where they need to be?"
"Well, when we get that rib away from his LAD we can give him a surgery that can help him heal faster than just leaving his bones to heal by themselves." I bite my lip as he continues. "The surgery is highly recommended, especially because of the amount of bones that are cracked." I stop him.
"Why is the surgery more recommended because of the amount of ribs cracked? How does that correspond?" I ask.
We walk out of the elevator when the doors open and begin walking down the hallway again.
"Because the amount of bones cracked is high, it is possible that not setting them will cause them to mend incorrectly, which can cause problems later on in life." Dr. Worth explains. "It could very well end his career in wrestling." I shake my head.
"Ok, so what kind of surgery is this?" I ask.
He eyes me curiously. "You ask a lot of questions don't you?"
I nod. "What can I say, I'm inquisitive." He laughs. "Now, the surgery."
"Alright," he says. "It's used to set his rib bones back into the place they belong. It holds them there while they mend properly."
"What holds them there?" I ask. "What keeps then where they belong?"
"The surgery uses titanium plates to stabilize fractured ribs while they heal and hold the ribs in their place."
"So you're wanting to screw titanium plates against babe's ribs to make them heal correctly?" I ask incredulous.
Dr. Worth's face contorts into something weird and unreadable. "Uh, not quite but yes, you've got the idea."
"Is that gonna affect him later on? Like the titanium?" I ask.
"I've never met someone so concerned in their partner's well being quite like you." Dr. Worth says. "It's nice to see; maybe I haven't lost all hope for humanity just yet."
I give a weak smile and he continues. "Actually, no it won't. After the ribs are healed he'll have a call back time so we can remove the plates."
"That sounds like the best idea right now." I sat and the doctor nods. "When would he need the surgery done?"
Dr. Worth shakes his head. "We need to get it done as soon as possible actually. The more he moves, the more liable that rib is to move closer to his LAD."
"Moves as in what? As in breathing? Breathing can't be compromised, Dr. Worth." I say.
"No, no." He says quickly. "The sooner we can do the surgery is the sooner we can give him something else to put him to sleep and numb his pain."
I blink confused. "Wait, what's Colby's state right now?" I ask, remembering his motionless figure in the parking garage.
He sighs. "This is a part that I personally would like to apologize for." He says slowly and I stare at him.
"What happened?" I ask, becoming a mix of nervous and angry.
"When we brought Colby in he was just fine, other than the obvious. We thought he was unconscious considering he wasn't doing any moving and his breathing patterns but when we went to get him X-rayed he seemed anything but unconscious. And he wasn't very happy either." Dr. Worth tries to explain. I just keep my eyebrow raised at him and he avoided looking at me directly.
"So he's conscious and moving, which isn't good for the ribs?" I ask but Dr. Worth wasn't finished talking as he continues.
"He was fighting us, and we couldn't get anything done. Kind of like a helpless animal that gets scared and takes up defense even when all the other is trying to do is help." I try to ignore the fact that the doctor had compared Seth to a helpless animal, which he would have hated, and listen to the doctor continue to explain himself.
We turn down another hallway and I stare the doctor down. "Could you maybe get to the point?" I ask.
"We gave him an anesthetic that would put him to sleep so that he would stop moving for a bit."
"You gave him..." I start but I find myself confused. "What the hell? What is he was allergic to something in it?" I ask first in an angry tone.
"We checked his medical records, don't worry." The doctor says as if it might make me feel better about whatever anesthetic the gave him.
I put my hand on my forehead. "So right now he's unconscious?"
"That would be correct." Dr. Worth sighs. I sigh as well. "I'm sorry."
I shake my head. "Don't be. If he was still conscious he'd probably end up hurting himself more than you all could repair."
He nods and we walk in silence for a moment. I sigh. "Seth loves wrestling." I say to him and he looks over at me.
"Yes." The doctor says, unsure of what else to say.
"He's not going to want to sit around," I say, shaking my head.
"Are you asking when he can do it again?" Dr. Worth asks.
"Is that wrong?"
"No, it's not." The doctor says, flipping through pages on the clipboard. "If we did get this surgery done he would be able to get the plates out after around 4 weeks. After that, the healing should go faster and then he can be back up there in just 6 weeks, but I honestly do not recommend getting back out there for another 8-10."
I nod to myself. "So he can wrestle again in 8 to 10 weeks." I say to myself.
"Well, he can wrestle can in 6..." I cut him off.
"I'm not letting him wrestle in 6 weeks." I say, looking up at the doctor. "What? Let him back out there when everyone knows his ribs are a weak spot for him and have him back in here because if it? I don't think so."
Dr. Worth nods. "That's a good way to put it; I do believe they would take it easy in him though."
I just stare at him. "You say you were a WWE fan?" I ask him and he nods. "Then you should know damn well they won't take bull easy on him." He nods and I shake my head.
"Well what is stopping him from getting getting out there himself?" He asks. I am quite for a moment as he had a point. "Certainly not Hunter or the Authority right? Wouldn't they want him to fight?"
"That's why I'm not telling the Authority bull." I snap and the doctor raises an eyebrow. "I'm not telling Stephanie. I'm not telling Kane. I don't know why the hell I would tell J&J Security. I'm not telling the Bella twins or Paige or Naomi or any of the Divas for what that's worth. I'm not telling Ryback, Big Show, New Day, Dolph Ziggler, Mark Henry, R Truth, or any of the Superstars period. Hell, I probably won't even tell Roman or Dean. And if he thinks he's gonna get out there and try to fight, I'm not gonna tell Seth. And let God Almighty strike me down if I ever thought to tell Triple H. I'd be damned."
Dr. Worth chuckles though I was dead serious. "You wouldn't tell Colby? Isn't it really his right to know that though?"
I pinch my lips together. "Yes, it is. And I would tell him." The doctor raises an eyebrow. "After 6 weeks."
"I've gotta hand to you, you have a very interesting way of handling situations don't you?"
I nod. He stood walking and I stop with him. "What?" I ask.
"You would like to see him before he goes into surgery, right?" He asks me.
My heart skips a best and a lump forms in my throat. "Yes," I choke out.
The doctor nods and glances back at his clipboard. "Yes, 591 should be correct." He says, looking at the number outside the door we stood in front of and I realize that we had just traveled all the way from the waiting room to here.
I have to keep myself from ramming the door down as Dr. Worth takes his time opening it. He walks in in front of me and glances back. "You have to remember it's a blessing he still looks like himself." He says, moving out of my way.

For two, I'm so sorry that I haven't been updating. It was almost like I disappeared from the face of the Earth for a few days. Sorry again for that!
For three, thank you for reading! And for waiting for me to update.
Lots of medical stuff that I had to research in order for some of these chapters, it was insane.
Please vote and comment and stay wonderful!
