~Gilly~

Winter is my favorite time of the year. The sparkling snow laying as a blanket over the grass. The heat prickling against you skin when your near the fireplaces. And Christmas just being around the corner. Apparently I was too busy daydreaming than paying attention because before I knew it, I slip on the ice. I brace for impact but instead fall into someone's arms. They chuckle and my face heats up.

"You've got to watch where you're going, miss."

He turns me around and I face the same boy at the hospital.

"Sorry, lost in thought," I say sheepishly.

"No worries. Just wanted to make sure you didn't fall."

An awkward moment of silence passes by and I finally speak up.

"Um, thank you for you know, catching me."

"Of course."

Great now this is super awkward.

"Oh by the way, I forgot to give you my name," he says. "The name's Liam."

"Gilly."

"That's a pretty name, Gilly."

I blush madly. He's a charmer apparently.

"You doing anything right now?" he asks with a smile.

"Nope. Just finished doing some archery," I reply.

"Want to walk downtown? It's beautiful down there."

I shrug because I really don't have anything else to do. "Sure, why not?"

We walk in comfortable silence as the snow crunches beneath our feet. "Again, I'm sorry to hear about your dad. He must've been really special to you."

I sniff. "He was."

Before we even realize what we are doing, we start pressing our lips together harder. My eyes are closed but I can feel him smiling. I'm smiling like a fool. We finally break away out of breath. Jax's cheeks are pink but so are mine. He looks conflicted for a second and I stand up. "Was that a mistake?"

"No, it's just, no never mind," he says.

"Then why are you biting your lip."

"I'm not."

I feel hurt so I run out. I ignore him calling my name and run down the hallway and into the courtyard. Fairy lights are hanging from structural columns. I sit down in a bench and feel tears streaming down my eyes. Something catches my eye and I turn to look and see a long but thin thing lying in the snow. A smile creeps up my face. Maybe I can have a little fun.
