Ch. 8
Despite a tightly packed schedule including interviews, rehearsals and soundchecks, Taehyung, for the first time in a while, was stressed.
He didn't know what caused him to feel like this.
It could be his high hopes of putting on a great show for the fans, the conversation he shared with Yoongi on the plane, or how the interviewer was rudely addressing them in the interview who was clearly opposed to their success.
Whatever it was was the least of his worries now; there were too many things rushing through his mind, it was enough to cause a panic attack, and Taehyung didn't want that. Maybe later when he was alone, but definitely not now, now being in the middle of the interview.
However, as the interview progressed he began to think he couldn't take much more of it. He needed time alone with his thoughts because at the moment it felt like he couldn't breathe.
His mind was a mess, various thoughts and worries were jumbled in his brain, leaving him unable to focus on the questions he was being bombarded with, the interviewer's sorry attempt to make him freeze up, seeing that he looked shaken up. Off to the side he saw his manager/hyung glancing at him from the other side of the camera mouthing if he was alright.
"Anything you would like to say to the fans? Taehyung, I'm sure they'd like to hear a few words from you." Taehyung sat there, frozen in his seat. What was wrong with him? Why couldn't he formulate in words what he wanted to say?
It was a good thing for him that his friends next to him knew something was off, and smoothly covered it up by answering for him. He would remember to thank them later.
The interview soon concluded, and as soon as the three boys were left alone, Taehyung rushed off to the closest empty room, the door slamming shut behind him.
Letting out shaky breaths he tried his best to compose himself, reminding himself to not let his emotions get the better of him. He had never been good when it came to sentiments, and it gave him anxiety when he wondered if the group's loyal fanbase knew how much they meant to him.
He needed to be okay. For the devoted fans, the hardworking staff, his beloved members, for everyone.
Back in his hometown there would've been someone, they would've known just what to say to calm him down, how to fix this.
He had left his entire life behind him to chase his absurd dream and though the group had risen to fame, he felt as though... he didn't deserve any of it. Anyone would disagree but they didn't know how he felt.
That was his fault too. He couldn't describe the way he was feeling, it was like this suffocating weight on his chest that wouldn't leave. Only one person knew, and he had left them, another thing that was his fucking fault. Everything was.
A gentle knock at the door brought him back to his surroundings. No no, he couldn't face the staff yet. Please, he thought, just a little bit longer. A voice was heard from the other side of the door.
"Take your time Tae." he breathed out, Namjoon. He could tell from the calmness the voice emitted that it was his hyung.
"T-Thank you." he managed a shaky reply, hoping the elder heard it. He heard a sigh and heard footsteps retreating from the door separating himself and the people who knew him.
It had been seconds, maybe minutes, before Taehyung had collected himself enough to see everyone, to show everyone that he was okay.
Okay on the outside that is.
Daring to leave, he reached for the door handle and carefully twisted the knob, stepping out of the room he had enclosed himself in. He proceeded to the room where his friends were waiting.
When he passed through the entrance, he saw the other two members sitting frantically, clearly worried about their youngest bandmate. Even Jimin was pacing the floor, the worry etched on his face, an expression Taehyung had scarcely seen. He was sorry he made them all worry about him, once again another thing that was his fault. If he could keep his emotions in check everyone would be happy, not thinking about his well being.
Almost shoving the thought aside, he approached his friends, putting on his best smile.
"Hey guys, I'm really sorry about that. I dunno what happened-" his apology was cut short, as he was tackled into a hug by Jimin, his other two friends standing not too far behind them.
"You never have to apologize for that Tae," Yoongi responded, "You can tell us anything and we'll understand."
"All you have to do is say the word," Namjoon said, nodding his head in agreement. Taehyung couldn't believe how lucky he was to have such incredible friends in his life. He didn't deserve them.
Breaking the hug, he swallowed hard, trying his best not to cause any commotion. "Thanks hyungs. I'm so lucky I have you guys."
"Don't mention it kiddo," Yoongi ruffled his hair.
"We'll always be here."
.......
After the staff finalized all the details regarding the interview, the group left the building and headed back to the hotel, everything done for the day. Just before the members split up to head to their own rooms, Namjoon called for a small band meeting in the lobby.
"Alright," he began, "we've all had a long day. And I know we've all been filled in about tomorrow's schedule. What I'm trying to say is," he made direct eye contact with Taehyung, "get some sleep you guys, we're all going to need a lot of energy, if we wanna get through tomorrow." Yoongi yawned.
"You don't need to tell me twice, I'm spent!" The small group headed into an elevator waiting to take them up to their rooms.
"Yeah, same," Taehyung nodded, pretending to look tired as well, hoping it was enough to convince the two.
Nothing more was said but a few goodnight's, as they each bade each other farewell once reaching their floor.
Taehyung entered his room and exhaled. He was alone. But something was nagging at him in the back of his mind; he was craving something, something he knew would calm his nerves. Realizing what it was, he quickly glanced at his watch. He had enough time.
He shrugged on a light jacket, grabbed his hat, took a face mask for extra precautions, and slipped out of his hotel room once more.
He had 20 minutes until the cafe closed.
