Ch. 5

Jungkook was tired.

It was not a normal day. That morning he woke with a start only to discover that he overslept. Letting out a groan of frustration he finished his morning routine in half the time it would normally take, and rushed to school. As he entered his first class the teacher announced the test would begin shortly. Hold up.

TEST?!?!?! What fucking test was she talking about?

It was then that Jungkook's mind recalled the faint memory from the previous week of the teacher's warning of a test.

Well shit.

It was not a normal day for sure. Jungkook never forgot to study for tests, no matter how much he hated them. He also forgot about the presentation for the next class.....

When lunch time rolled around, he collapsed at the table Hoseok and Jin were seated at. Jin looked up from his notebook.

"Whoa, you good there bro?" All Jungkook could muster was a despondent sigh escaping his rosy lips.

"I'm failing life."

"Mood." Hoseok nodded gravely, earning himself a smack from Jin. "Don't say that Kooks, it's just one test. You'll have plenty of time to make up for it with other tests."

"Yeah, I guess. It's just disappointing ya know?" Jungkook just wanted this day the be over so he can go home and sleep. His grades were very important to him, he didn't have the money to go to university. His friends understood his situation and tried their best to get him to smile and forget the measly test. He spent the rest of the time eating his lunch in silence and said no more than a few words throughout, and just as he was about to get up and dispose of his tray, Hoseok yelled.

"Holy fucking shit, y'all the tickets go on sale today at 4:00pm!"

Jungkook's head shot up, followed by Jin's not even a millisecond after. They all started yelling about what to do.

"Okay okay, our shift starts at 5:00 today which means we have enough time to find a place and get the tickets." Jin tried his best to stay calm and collected but at this point none of them could contain their enthusiasm, as they made plans on where would have the best internet connection for buying the tickets. After much debate, they settled on heading to the cafe early and set up their devices to have a better shot.

Jungkook now wanted school to be over with even more, his inner voice screaming with excitement as each minute ticked by at an excruciatingly slow pace.

.......

Jungkook's wish was eventually granted as the sound of the bell resonated throughout all the classrooms, signalling the end of the school day. The hallways were soon filled with jubilant students chatting with their friends, packing their bags full of homework, all pleased to go home.

Jungkook quickly shoved his books in his navy book bag, slammed his metal locker shut, and practically flew down the stairs to meet his friends, his jet black hair bobbing as he descended. He saw Hoseok at their usual meeting spot, a small heart-shaped smile adorning his face as the younger approached. It wasn't long before Jin arrived and the three friends could depart, racing towards the station at the speed of light.

It was 3:30 when the boys arrived at the cafe, each trying their best to keep their jumpiness in check, but evidently failing as they logged onto the website where the tickets were to be sold in a mere matter of minutes. They joined the queue, none of their eyes wavering from the countdown displayed on each screen, the anticipation building in each male.

When at last the moment came. The last second ticked away and as the venue map appeared, each male immediately started searching for tickets. At first, it seemed as though luck was not on their side, for every time they selected a seat, it appeared to be taken. No, Jungkook thought as he watched the blue dots in the sections turn gray, this can't be happening.

All seemed lost, but just as the three friends were about to give up Jin yelled, pointing anxiously at a spot on Hoseok's screen.

"OII! Those ones there!" The said brunet clicked them in record time. They filled in the payment information and clicked enter, waiting for the page to load. When it did, they all froze, reading the words displayed on the screen.

CONGRATULATIONS, YOU GOT THEM!

A moment passed as the three friends let the words sink in. Suddenly they erupted in joyous cheers and shouts, not giving a single fuck that people in the surrounding area were watching them.

Jungkook couldn't breathe. They were going to see their favourite boy group live. In person. Together! He wouldn't ask for anything more than this, his lil heart threatening to explode.

The loud celebrations were short lived, as they were confronted by their boss, chastising them for disrupting the hushed atmosphere of the cafe. The three males bowed in response smiling, as they apologized to him and the many pairs of eyes that glared at them, too happy to care about their judgement.

The boys then rushed to the employees room to get their aprons on and begin working, internally celebrating their success.

Time ticked away as the minutes turned to hours, pretty soon it was 9:00. The cafe had no more than 3 customers, all of which had been served and were lounging on the scattered, plush sofas and couches. Hoseok yawned.

"You guys, I know we said we would celebrate after work but I have two amjor assignments I gotta work on when I get home. Is it alright if I leave now?"

"Please stay a little while longer Seokjinnie hyung, I'm too damn tired."And Jungkook didn't have the heart to say no to either of them.

"How about this," he said looking at his two best friends, "You two go on, and I'll close up for tonight. It's no problem for me and you both can go home. You both owe me though."

He was tackled by the brunet in a bone crushing hug, while the oldest thanked him with a smile followed by a pat on the back. A sort time passed and soon he was waving farewell to them, leaving him to finish his work.

Jungkook immediately started cleaning, so he could close up right at 10 for the night.

.......

The melody of the soft jazz music continued playing from the speakers as the ravenette carefully stacked chairs on top of the tables, permitting him to sweep the floor of the day's messes including crumbs, napkins and straws.

All the customers had left some time ago, meaning Jungkook was alone.

Unable to resist the urge, the boy disconnected the speakers from the jazz station it had been connected to, and within seconds, connected his own device using bluetooth. He put on his favourite playlist featuring a certain someone, and a completely different sound boomed from the speakers, putting a wide smile on the boy's lips. As the music continued, Jungkook couldn't refrain from humming along to it and soon enough, the small volume of the building was filled with his sweet angelic voice.

When the male had finished cleaning, he paused his music, inspecting his surroundings to ensure he hadn't missed anything. The sight before him confirmed the tedious task was completed, and the ravenette yawned, rubbing his chocolate brown eyes full of fatigue at this point. He glanced at the clock; five minutes to 10. He could begin closing up for the night, all the customers had left some time ago and he was more than certain he wouldn't be serving anyone else for the night.

Sighing, he undid the haphazardly tied bow at the back of his blotchy ginger coloured apron, heading through the back room doors to hang his apron in the employees lounge. It was on his way back that he heard the unmistakable jingle of the cafe's main entrance, which meant one thing; a customer.

The ravenette frowned, his gaze shifting to the clock on the wall. It was a minute past closing, meaning it was obligatory to turn the newcomer away and ask them to kindly return the next day.

He pushed past the swinging door leading to the front and his eyes landing on a hooded figure dressed in all black, taking a close look at a painting near the counter. Jungkook opened his mouth to speak.

"Excuse me Sir, I'm terribly sorry but we're...." the person turned around, lifting his gaze to meet his eyes.

Jungkook's heart leapt out of his chest, eyes widening, as he faced the one person he'd only had dreams of meeting.

"...Closed."

Yep. Today was definitely not a normal day.
