Trepidation's perspirations
in the utter retention of the inventions
of the fear hanging near
the overwhelming situation
tend to count seconds out
drip by drop falling down
like the meter of the moment
and the heartbeat of an omen
until the very breath does express
a resignation and titration
of the tension at the mention
of relief and release
in the silent sigh
to calm the wandering eye
as sleep creeps in to win the fight
against the rulers
of the night
