Lila came in and out of consciousness more times than she could remember. But she never moved from her spot. That involved too much energy.
She thought she heard something buzzing, but she figured that was a side affect of the massive headache she had.
The only time she truly registered any other sound is when she heard a click and then her door open.
She scrunched her eyes shut when the bed shifted and she felt Nate's hand on her shoulder. "Lila? Are you awake? I brought you some breakfast."
Breakfast? Had she really been asleep that long that it was now the next day?
Much to her great annoyance, her stomach grumbled at the thought of food.
Nate chuckled softly and moved aside so she could sit up.
As much as she really didn't feel like eating, her body told her otherwise, and with Nate sitting here it's not like she could starve herself... So Lila forced herself to sit up and eyes the bacon and eggs sitting on the plate in Nate's hands.
"There she is. How are you doing?"
"Fine." Lila said softly, reaching forward to take a piece of bacon. She nibbled at it and chewed slowly just to go through the motions.
"I bought you some clothes yesterday, so that way you had more than what is just in your bag."
"You didn't have to do that... How much was it, I'll pay you back." Lila said, looking up.
A flash of relief crossed Nate's face when she made eye contact and he reached forward to stroke her cheek. "Don't worry about it. I'm happy to do it. I told you, I'm going to take care of you now."
"Nate... I don't think that's the best idea..."
"As long as you don't try to jump out of my car anymore I think it will be just fine. Beside, I know you don't have anywhere else to go." He moved his hand and ran it gently down her arm.
Lila closed her eyes and turned her head away. She couldn't tell if she liked what he was implying or not. Deep down, she knew she shouldn't be alone. Especially not now. Not with where her mind was. But the thought of being here didn't sit right either.
"Just until I can find a place of my own." Lila said, keeping her tone short and to the point.
Nate clenched his jaw. "Do you have a problem with being here with me?"
"No, it's not that. I just..."
"Just what?" Nate set the plate down. "I'm just trying to take care of you Lila. Why are you pushing me away?"
Lila hesitated and lowered the half eaten piece of bacon. Where was this coming from? She felt her mouth open, but no words came out.
Then Nate leaned forward and pressed his lips to hers.
Lila let out a sound of surprise and tried to push him away, but he placed one hand on the back of her head and grabbed wrist with the other one. His lips moved hungrily against hers as he started to push her back onto the bed.
"Mmfph!" Lila took her other hand and pushed the side of his face.
He growled slightly, but broke the kiss. His eyes narrowed a little as he looked down at her. "Why are you fighting me? Don't you know just how much I love you Lila?"
"Wh-What? Nate get off me!" Lila pressed her free hand against his shoulder, but he wouldn't budge.
"Please Lila." He pleaded, leaning closer to to her to the point where she couldn't get her hand in between them anymore. "I love you so fucking much. I have for years now. I'm tired of watching you fawn over some guy who you can't even tell us who he was. How is that healthy? How can you be happy with that."
"N-Nate," Lila winced as he tightened his grip on her wrist. "You're hurting me..."
"I want to take care of you. Love you. Show you how amazing you are." He kissed her again, moaning a little as he ran his tongue over her lips. Then he started to move her arm above her head, which lifted up the hem of her shirt.
Lila's heart raced as she tried to worm out from underneath him. Nate pinned her other hand to the bed when she tried to push him off again.
But this was enough of a distraction that Lila could bring her knee up and jerk it into his groin.
Nate cried out in pain and let go of her to grab himself.
Lila pushed him aside and ran for her door. What was wrong with him? How could Nate do that? After everything she had been through yesterday...
She ran down the stairs, her thudding footsteps pounding in her mind as the echoed in the house.
"Lila!" Nate called from behind her.
His growling voice startled her and made her slip down the rest of the stairs, but Lila managed to catch herself and run to the front door.
"Lila, stop!"
She yanked open the front door and ran down his drive way. Everything was unfamiliar and she had no idea where she was, but Lila knew she had to get out of here.
Her bare feet slapped painfully against the hot cement as she fled the house behind her.
"Lila!"
There was no way to tell which way she was going or where she even was. Her mind was completely scrambled and she took a sudden left turn to cross the street.
Right into oncoming traffic.

"Thanks for letting me stay, Hongjoong." San said, holding out his hand as he stood by the door to the doctor's apartment.
"It's really not that big of a deal. I just hope you find her..." Hongjoong shook his hand, then leaned against the wall. "I can't believe that Rachel... But you know, things just don't seem to add up. Make sure you pursue that court order Yeosang told you about last night."
"I will. I hope that bitch goes to prison." San growled, clenching his hand. "I always knew she was psychotic, but this is an entire new level."
Hongjoong nodded slowly. "You guys have a strong case, especially since that drug test came back positive. Is there a doctor back home that you trust?"
San chewed on his lip. "Yeah, there is actually. The same one that treated Wooyoung when he was sick."
"Get in contact with him. I believe you can request him through the court order as well, as long as he's got a good reputation." Hongjoong chewed on his lip. "If you can't get him then request me, I'll come out for it."
"You don't have to do that." San said, but at the same time he felt his heart warm at the thought.
"I'll make it happen. Like I said, I promised Remi I'd look after her."
"He really loved her, didn't he?" San whispered, leaning against the wall.
Hongjoong sighed and nodded. "He did. His biggest regret in life was not being able to go back for her, but ever since the attack and the brain damage set in, he was forced to stay in that hospital. The doctor I trained under told me that he would talk about her every day, and how he wished he would have run away from her the first time her mom said she didn't want her. The only reason he didn't leave was because he hoped that the woman he had fallen in love with would return. But having Lila changed her... She was never the same after the pregnancy."
San closed his eyes. He wished that would have happened too. It would have saved Lila so much pain and suffering. But at the same time, then she wouldn't be the Lila he knew and loved today. It was all so complicated.
"I read every one of her articles to him. Once he discovered she was writing for a magazine, he signed up for the subscription and I would scan through it for him to see if she had written anything for that issue. And I know that he left her quite a bit of money. Protect her San. Find her, and protect her." Hongjoong looked up and gave her a stern gaze. "For Remington."
"I will, you don't have to worry about that." San nodded to him and then checked the time.
"Come on, I'll take you to the airport." Hongjoong opened the door and motioned for San to go first.

The car horn blared, causing Lila to freeze. All she could do was stare as the car got closer and closer.
This is it.
This is how she was going to finally die.
She almost welcomed it...
"Lila! Look out!"
Something slammed into her and sent her rolling across the street, cutting up her arms and legs even through her clothes.
She wasn't even given time to recover before she was lifted off the ground and jostled around by Nate.
"What the hell? Why would you run into traffic like that?!" He yelled as he started marching back to his house. "Why are you trying so hard to kill yourself? This is why you need me!"
Lila cringed and tried to push herself away from him.
"Stop struggling!! It's obvious that you can't take care of yourself!"
"Put me down!" Lila whimpered, pushing against his chest.
"No! I refuse to let you hurt yourself anymore." He threw the door to his house open and then slammed it behind him.
Lila screamed, trying to get out of his grasp, or maybe alert someone walking outside. "Put me down, please! Nate stop!"
"NO!" He shouted, jerking her to the side and then throwing her over his shoulder as he walked up the stairs. "Don't you see I'm trying to help you?" Nate stormed into her room and threw her down on the bed.
When she got her bearings, Lila scrambled to the side of it and backed away. Nate had such a dark look on his face... She had never seen him like this before and it terrified her.
"Why are you fighting me?" He growled, tugging at his own hair. "I know you're sick. I know you were hospitalized for trying to kill yourself! You need me!"
"H-How... What?!" She was shocked. How could he possibly know about that? "Have you been stalking me?"
Nate paused and looked at her. "I've been doing what I need to do so I know how to protect you."
"You're delusional Nate. I can't believe I didn't see it before now. If you had really done your research, then you'd know that time wasn't suicide. My mother did that to me!"
His jaw dropped. "What?" Pain reflected in his eyes, confusing Lila even more. "Wh-Why would she d-do that?"
"Because she didn't want me! Because I ruined her life!"
At that, Nate rushed forward. Lila tried to back away from him, but he was too strong and too fast. He pulled her into his chest and held her tight. She felt tears rolling down her back as his shoulders shook. "I'm so s-sorry... N-No wonder you wanted t-t-to leave when she c-came to the hospital."
Lila turned her head away from him. She felt like she had whiplash from how all over the place Nate was right now.
"I promise you'll never feel that kind of pain again." He whispered after he had calmed down.
She tensed at his words, especially when he started running his hands over her arms and back. "N-Nate..."
"I want you. I've always wanted you."
Lila tried to lift her arms up to push him away, but he wouldn't let her. "Nate, please let me go." She whispered.
Surprisingly, he did. Nate sat back, but let his hand slid down her arm to take her hand. They sat there in silence for a long moment before Lila pulled her hand away.
"Where's my bag?" She asked quietly.
"Why?"
"Because I'm going to go stay at a hotel." Lila said carefully, hoping that he would work with her now that he knew about her mom.
But she was wrong...
"No." He said, standing up.
"N-No?"
"You're not leaving. I already told you that you're staying with me." He reached out and tried to rub her cheek, but Lila batted his hand away. He let out a short growl. "Fine. Be that way. But you'll come around." Nate sneered at her and turned to the door.
Lila stood up to follow him. "Nate, please, please don't do this."
He stepped out of the room and sent her one longing glance before slamming the door.
Lila's heart stopped when she heard a click. "Nate!" She ran forward and tried the handle.
She was locked in the room.
"Nate! Open the door! Why are you doing this? Nate please!" She pleaded, pounding on the door.
He never answered or said anything.
Lila called and pounded for what felt like hours before she gave up and shuffled to the corner of the room and sank to the floor.
Her hands shook as the gravity of her situation started to sink in and one question rang in her mind.
What was going to happen to her now?
